Chapter 492: Please Don’t Be Mad
Chapter 492: Please Don’t Be Mad
“It was her assistant,” Dave said.
Bianca’s eyes widened. “Seriously? How’s that possible?”
Dave gave a small smile as he looked at her. “Only someone really close to her would know that much.”
He let out a soft sigh. “Let this be a lesson for you. Don’t trust just anyone. Trust me, okay? The more people you trust, the easier it is for them to use your secrets against you. And the more people you let in, the more risk you face.”
When they left the hotel, they had to go their separate ways for now, ending their short time together.
“I really wish I could spend more time with you,” Dave said softly, tucking a strand of hair behind Bianca’s ear. “But there are things I need to take care of. Please don’t be mad.”
Bianca smiled and shook her head. “No need to apologize. I understand. But don’t forget—you owe me. When you’re free, you’ll have to make it up to me.”
“Of course,” Dave replied with a grin, giving her a thumbs up.
Then he looked around and asked, “Wait, didn’t you drive today?”
Bianca’s smile instantly faded as she thought of the flashy Lamborghini he had given her. “The office is nearby, so I didn’t think it was necessary,” she said. “Also… I don’t really like driving that car. It’s too flashy. Honestly, it makes me uncomfortable. Maybe you should just take it back.”
“I don’t take back what I’ve already given,” Dave said without taking his eyes away from her.
Bianca stared back at him, wearing a bright smile. “I know you won’t. But I want to buy a sports car with my own money someday. And when I do, I’ll take you for a ride.”
She paused, then added, “That’s how I’ll feel equal to you. If I just keep accepting all your gifts, I might lose the fire to succeed on my own. I don’t want that. I want to stand beside you, not behind you. Just like you support me, I want to support you too.”
Dave’s heart softened. He let out a quiet laugh, clearly touched by her words.
“In that case, I’ll keep the car for you,” Dave said with a playful smile. “But once you’ve reached your goals and made your fortune, I’ll sell it to you. Deal?”
Bianca narrowed her eyes, then laughed. “Deal!”
Dave grinned. “Still, I promised you a car, and I’m not the kind of man who breaks his word. I won’t let you leave empty-handed.”
He turned to Wyatt, who was waiting nearby. “Bring my Mercedes and give it to Bianca.”
“Understood,” Wyatt replied.
Dave looked back at Bianca. “I don’t have time to get you a brand-new one right now. But I’ve barely used that Mercedes. It’s practically new. It should be fine for now, right?”
“Of course it would. I’m more than happy with it,” Bianca said as she gently smoothed the wrinkles on his suit. She smiled and added, “You should get back to work now. And don’t forget to sleep on time, okay? Lack of rest will only hurt your health. Even if I’m not around, please take care of yourself.”
“I won’t mess with my health,” Dave replied, softly rubbing her hand. Then he let go, gave a small nod, and stepped back.
“Bye,” he waved his hand before turning around and walking away, trying hard not to look back.
As his car disappeared from view, loneliness filled Bianca's heart. Their time together always felt too short. She wished she could stay by his side all the time, but life just didn’t allow that.
They were both busy with their own responsibilities, and no matter how much they wanted to be together longer, it wasn’t possible right now. Still, at least she got to see him, hold him, and talk to him. That should be enough at this time.
With a gentle smile, Bianca pushed her feelings aside and walked back toward the company.
Meanwhile, at the Evans Mansion...
Lucas stood in the middle of the living room, shouting at Rupert with his finger pointed straight at him.
“I gave you everything you needed to succeed! So how did Dave still manage to take the project from you at the table? If you can’t handle something this simple, how do you expect me to trust you with the future of the Evans Group? You better step up before it’s too late!” Lucas yelled sharply.
Rupert, clearly angry too, clenched his jaw and shot back, “Dad, how was I supposed to know Dave would pull that off? He signed a gambling contract with a profit target ten times higher than anything our company has ever done! I couldn’t take that risk blindly! I just—”
“You’re saying he agreed to a gambling contract with a tenfold return?” Lucas asked, his frown deepening.
That kind of deal meant if Phoenix Alliance Group couldn’t deliver ten times the profit, they’d have to pay ten times the loss instead.
Was Dave out of his mind? What was he thinking, signing something so risky?
"Dad, what should we do next?" Rupert asked. His eyes stayed on Lucas, waiting for an answer.
Lucas didn’t respond. He walked back and forth across the room with his face full of worry.
Rupert waited for a bit, then spoke again. "Maybe this is our chance to crush the Phoenix Alliance Group."
Lucas stopped walking. He turned and looked straight at Rupert. "If this project fails, the Phoenix Alliance Group will already be in big trouble."
"That's why I'm saying we should act now," Rupert said. "They’ve split from the Evans Group. If we let them recover, they’ll become a bigger problem later."
Lucas shook his head. "Phoenix Alliance Group became strong in Edenfield because of Dave. Don’t forget—it used to be the most valuable part of our family business. If it falls, we all lose something big."
Rupert stared at him, shocked. "Wait… are you saying we should take the Phoenix Alliance Group back into the Evans Group?"
Lucas sat down slowly, his cane resting beside him. He looked at Rupert with tired but firm eyes.
"What else can we do? Dave is still the one I trust most to lead. I won’t just let him leave the family. Phoenix Alliance Group is still using what we gave them. I won’t let it go completely. And I won’t let it fail either."
Rupert felt unsettled. He had always seen himself as the next head of the Evans Group—especially once Dave stepped aside. But now, he realized his father still wanted Dave to come back.
And what about him? Did his hard work even matter?
