Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Bellamy POV
As I lay down on the bed in the room Tristan had placed me in, I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. My hands still felt shaky, and my body was clammy. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Not the boat. Not the island. Not the rebranding project.
No. I couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that I had just vomited not once, but twice on my boss. The same boss who now probably thought I had a personal vendetta against high-end fashion. First his shoes, now his shirt.
I buried my face into the pillow and groaned into it.
“Kill me,” I mumbled.
The room was surprisingly nice, considering the rest of the resort was practically falling apart. Tristan told me this was one of the few bungalows that had been kept in decent shape, just in case someone needed to stay overnight. He said he made sure it was clean before I got here. Even changed the sheets himself.
The walls were made of bamboo and warm-colored wood. There was a small fan in the ceiling that spun lazily, and the sliding doors opened up to a breathtaking view of the ocean. The bed was big and surprisingly soft, covered with white sheets and a light cotton blanket. A small desk stood in the corner beside a dusty bookshelf, and a standing mirror leaned against the wall.
It felt like a strange mix of rustic charm and forgotten paradise.
I stared at the ceiling for a long while, trying to calm myself, to center my thoughts. But instead, a different kind of panic started brewing.
Wait… when was the last time I got my period? My heart skipped a beat. I sat up slowly. No… no, no, no. It’s just stress. That’s all.
But still. I reached for my bag and yanked out my toiletries pouch. I fumbled through it—deodorant, tampons, toothbrush—and found the tiny white box shoved at the bottom.
The pregnancy test.
I’d thrown it in there last minute while packing, not even thinking I’d need it. I just had a weird feeling. And now… that feeling was growing louder.
I sat back down on the bed and stared at it.
It couldn’t be. There’s no way.
Garrett and I hadn’t slept together in more than four months. The last time was a disaster—cold, loveless, and forced. I left him a month ago. That part was clear.
And the only person I’d been with since then…
Was the stranger.
Max, I thought.
God. It had to be Max. Right?
I shut my eyes and tried to remember that night. I was drunk, sure. But not blacked out. I remember the heat of his hands. The way he kissed me. The way he whispered like I mattered.
Did he use a condom? I thought he did. I hoped he did. But did I check?
My stomach turned.
I got up and grabbed the test, hands trembling. I walked to the bathroom, took a deep breath, and did what I had to do.
Afterward, I placed the stick on the edge of the sink and stared at it like it might explode.
“Just stress,” I whispered to myself. “Just hormones. You’re fine. You’re fine.”
To distract myself, I started my skincare routine. Washed my face. Dabbed toner on my cheeks. Moisturizer. Lip balm. Anything to not look at the test.
But when I finally did, I froze.
Two lines. Bright. Bold. Unmistakable. My heart stopped. My breath caught. And then I screamed.
“What the fuck?!”
I backed away from the sink like the test had just bitten me.
“No. No. This isn’t—this can’t—” I gasped, covering my mouth.
Positive.
I was pregnant.
