Chapter 32: Alexander’s Last Warning
Chapter 32: Alexander’s Last Warning
“If you don’t leave now, you never will.”
The words hit Elena like a slap. Her heart races in her chest, and for a split second, she thinks she might faint. She looks up from the bed, where she was trying to gather her thoughts, to see Alexander standing in the doorway. His expression is fierce, but there’s something more in his eyes—something raw, desperate. The kind of desperation she hasn’t seen from him before.
He’s here.
And that means it’s time. The time she’s been dreading, and yet, somehow, the time she’s been waiting for.
Alexander steps into the room, closing the door behind him with a soft click. His breath is shallow, his face taut with tension, and Elena can feel the weight of the moment pressing down on her. The plan is in motion, everything is set. But now, standing here with him, she feels like she’s about to make a decision that will change everything.
His voice cracks slightly as he speaks again. “You know this is it, right? There’s no going back from this. If you don’t come with me now, if you don’t leave right this second, you’ll be stuck here forever.”
Elena swallows hard, her pulse thrumming in her ears. The tension in the room is unbearable. She’s never seen him like this—raw, vulnerable, and torn. Alexander, usually so composed, is falling apart right in front of her. She can feel the weight of his words in her bones, like he’s giving her an ultimatum she can’t ignore.
“Don’t say that,” she whispers, her voice cracking as she tries to steady herself. She knows she should be strong, but the thought of leaving—leaving everything behind, including Rafael—scares her more than anything she’s ever faced. She’s spent so much time being trapped that the idea of freedom feels almost impossible.
“I’m not trying to scare you,” Alexander says, his voice softer now, but still filled with urgency. “But you need to know this is the last chance you’ll get. After tonight, if you stay, there won’t be a way out. You’ll be stuck with him. And I won’t be able to help you anymore. I’ll be gone. Do you understand that?”
His words stab her heart, and for a moment, Elena can’t breathe. He’s right. She knows he’s right. If she stays with Rafael, she’s signing away her future. She’s giving up everything, including herself. But leaving? It means stepping into the unknown. It means risking everything—Alexander, her safety, everything she’s built in her mind as her only way out.
Her hands tremble at her sides, and she fights to keep her composure. She wants to tell him she’s ready, that she can do this. But the fear in her heart makes it hard to speak. She hasn’t been this scared in a long time.
Alexander steps forward, his hand reaching out, and he gently places it on her arm. “Elena, please. I need you to choose. If you stay here with him, I can’t be part of your life anymore. I won’t watch you destroy yourself.”
His words hang in the air between them, heavy and real. Elena stares at him, her mind racing. She wants to scream, to tell him it’s too much, too fast. But she can’t. She’s come too far.
She steps back, her chest tight with emotion. “I—” she starts, but her voice falters. She doesn’t know what to say. The words don’t feel like they’re enough. “I can’t just leave,” she whispers, barely above a breath.
“You can,” Alexander insists, his voice cracking again. “You can. I’ll help you, I’ll make sure we both get out of here. But you have to want it. You have to trust me. Please. You have to trust that I’m doing this for both of us.”
The words hang in the air like a promise, but also like a threat. Elena looks at him, really looks at him, and for the first time, she sees just how much he’s willing to risk for her. It’s terrifying. And beautiful.
She takes a deep breath, trying to steady the storm inside of her. But it’s no use. She feels like she’s drowning. “I don’t know if I can,” she admits, the words tasting bitter as they leave her lips. “I don’t know if I can leave him. If I do...”
“You’re not leaving him, Elena,” Alexander interrupts, stepping closer. “You’re leaving the cage he built around you. You’re leaving that life behind, and you’re walking away with me. But you need to make the choice. I can’t do it for you.”
She stands frozen, staring at him. The clock is ticking. She can feel it now, the weight of time slipping through her fingers. Her heart beats faster, thudding in her chest as if it’s trying to tear itself free. She’s so close to breaking. She knows she is.
And then she hears it—his voice, soft and steady, filled with conviction.
“I’ll never let you go,” Alexander whispers, his hand gently cupping her cheek. “Not if you don’t want me to.”
Elena’s breath hitches. She’s barely able to hold it together, the raw emotion building inside of her. She reaches up, her fingers trembling as they graze the side of his face, and for a moment, she’s still. The connection between them is electric, powerful, and she can feel her heart telling her to take that leap, to trust him, to let go of the fear and just go.
“Trust me,” she whispers back, her voice shaky but determined.
And then, without thinking, she pulls him to her, her lips meeting his in a kiss that’s desperate, soft, and full of promises they both know they can’t keep. It’s one last kiss, one last moment before everything changes.
