Angelina’s POV

I went to sleep with a smile on my face for the first time in four days.

I could still feel Lucas’s lips on mine, like he left some sort of permanent imprint there.

I never thought that one kiss could turn my body upside down and make all those weird feelings take root inside my heart, but it totally did. Maybe I was too traumatized by the events that have been hitting me in succession that I’ve gone crazy, because that cannot be normal, right?

One kiss cannot possibly do all that. Well it was two kisses if we’re counting the first one, which I totally am. Because all it took was that swift, tender touch to open up a floodgate of emotions I never felt before.

For the first time in four days, I slept through the night and woke up without being haunted by any of my latest nightmares.

I couldn’t help but connect it to that damn kiss.

I had no idea what time it was but I could see the morning dim light seeping through the window. The sun seemed to always be covered in clouds here, just like Seattle. And I couldn’t help but think that it felt like home, even though it wasn’t mine, it couldn’t be, as much as I wanted it to be.

I sighed and got out of bed a little gloomier than the way I went to sleep in.

I had to face the reality.

I cannot let one kiss make me change my mind and listen to him.

He could hate me today for all I know!

If he doesn’t hate me today, he’ll end up doing something else to piss me off all over again.

I can’t let myself dream over one stupid kiss! I am much more stronger, mature, and reasonable than that dammit! I can’t show him how much he fucking affected me! It will only grow his already huge ego.

It probably meant nothing to him. No, it certainly didn’t mean anything to him. I mean he must have kissed many girls with that mouth of his for all I know. There is no way he enjoyed that the way I did.

I only got affected so much because it was my first kiss and that’s all. It wasn’t because it was Lucas.

I’m sure if I kissed anyone else I have a slight interest in, it would feel the same way.

I head into the bathroom and prepare myself for the day.

I change into tight, long, black yoga pants and a light pink, long sleeves, shirt.

I secure my hair in a high ponytail and get out of my room to head downstairs.

There were noises coming from the kitchen, so it must not be as early as I expected it to be.

I go inside the kitchen to find Sara chopping some tomatoes and Diana frying some omelets.

“Good morning” I said softly from the kitchen entrance.

Diana turned to me with a bright, warm smile on her face as she said brightly “Good morning dear, you’re just in time for breakfast. I was coming to wake you after I finish with these eggs”

“Do you guys need some help?” I ask hesitantly.

“Sure, you can set up the plates and cutlery on the table” Diana said casually.

I moved inside and started transferring the items to the dining table.

I was done with it when Diana put the plate of eggs on the table.

“April told me about your plans to train her in the empty gym this morning” said Diana softly as she sat on her usual chair.

“I hope it’s okay with you. She looked really interested in learning self defense, and I kind of think it’s really important for her to possess such an ability” I said in a small voice.

“Of course it’s totally fine with me. But I would like for Lucas and David to accompany you while you’re there” she said firmly.

I furrowed my eyebrows “Can I know why?” I asked in confusion. Does she not trust me alone with April?

She gave me a gentle smile, as if reading my thoughts “It’s not about you dear, I’ll just feel less worried if you have men with you. We still have a little unsteady relationship with the Walker clan and I don’t want anyone to bother you there”

“The Walker clan?” I ask tentatively.

“Yes, that’s Jenny’s family. When my husband died, my sons found out that the leader of the Walker clan; that’s Jenny’s father, was involved. So my middle son Jacob killed him and ever since then, there have been a lot of conflicts between us”

Yeah, Lucas mentioned that rivalry, but didn’t elaborate on the name of the clan nor about Jenny’s relationship with his family.

I mean they seemed so fond of her, and April said that Alex was going to surprise Jenny with a whole gym, so their relationship must have been good. But what puzzled me was how she fell in love with him in the first place over a forced marriage, revenge, and murdered parents.

I was really curious, but it so wasn’t my place to ask, especially not Diana. I’m sure my questions will only sadden her further and I didn’t want to do that. So I curbed my curiosity and said instead “Ok, if they’re not busy with anything after breakfast, we can take off then”

“You’re okay with Lucas accompanying you, Angelina? It’s okay, you can totally tell me if you’re not. I mean after what happened yesterday, I don’t really blame you if…” she started to say kindly before I interrupted her softly “It’s okay Diana. I’m fine with him. He could actually use the practice”

She chuckled at that and said lightly “I didn’t want to say anything in front of him and after everything that happened following that fight, but you were on fire yesterday. Certainly didn’t expect you to knee Lucas like that”

I turned ten shades of red in front of her and said shyly “I know he’s your son and all but I mean he really got on my last nerve since I came here and I just lost control of myself”

“Oh I am totally behind you on that move. Maybe that will teach him to mind that mouth of his” she said firmly

“Not really sure it taught him that at all” I murmured under my breath, too low for Diana to hear as she got distracted by April coming into the dining room and saying good morning to us excitedly at that moment.

She was dressed like me, long, black yoga pants, and a deep blue, long sleeves, blouse. Her hair was braided to the side.

Following behind her were David and Lucas.

The second our eyes met, I tore my gaze away and looked everywhere else. The memory of last night invading my mind and my senses for the hundredth time since it happened.

Get it together, Angelina! Act cool!

“So how did you sleep last night, Angel?” asked Lucas smugly as he scooped some eggs into his plate and looked at me tauntingly.

I looked at him nervously. He’s just messing with me. He won’t reveal that I asked him to kiss me last night to everyone, will he?

“I slept fine” I said flatly.

“Wanna know how I slept?” he asked while wiggling his eyebrows and sporting that sexy, stupid, smug smile on that damn mouth of his.

I turned red yet again and didn’t know what the hell to say to him without making a fool of myself and falling into whatever trap he was luring me into.

“Stop bothering the girl and let her eat her breakfast in peace Lucas” his mom said firmly.

His smile deepened and he deliberately licked his lower lip very slowly biting it in the end, making me follow that little move against my better judgment.

I tore my eyes away from those lips and tried to focus on my own plate.

I wanted practice to start as soon as possible because I needed a distraction from this man desperately.

And I prayed to god that he would just send us with David and another one of his men instead of him. Because I had a feeling that if he comes with us, I’ll never be able to focus at all. Especially if he keeps throwing these lame ass comments about last night.

I knew kissing him was going to be a mistake, but not kissing him either…..was not an option I could have resisted for he really made me feel a lot of great feelings back then.

As for now, I just wanted to wipe that stupid smirk off his face with my fist.

Problem was, I was half certain it will just turn him on and satisfy him further.

He seemed to love getting under my skin and make me act like an avenging angel, instead of the holy, do-gooder type that I’m trying so hard to be.
