Alex’s POV
We spent the whole remaining time until the moment of the delivery, gathered around our biggest warehouse, preparing for the fight. All the men from the clan who were capable of handling a gun were given instructions and locations to hide until my signal.
Each of us had different kinds of guns depending on their positions out there. We also packed extra ammo.
I didn’t know how many people will be inside that truck, but I was sure they were a lot more than our supposed number that I conveyed to David’s father. He wouldn’t want to take any chances again and risk me or Lucas surviving that attack.
When the clock was approaching go time, I took a moment to myself to call Jenny.
I knew despite my repeated reassurances that she was burning a hole through the floor right about now.
I was also worried about her health.
I wanted to hear her cute girly voice as a good luck charm before I go all in guns blazing, check on her and the rest to make sure they are holding up okay, and let her know how much I love her and have her grasp into those words rather than worry out of her mind over my dangerous upcoming confrontation.
She picks up from the first half ring, as if she was staring at her phone before I called her.
“Alex, is everything okay?” she asks alarmingly.
I have to admit, the longing and worry that were mixed in her voice made me gleeful. She doesn’t leave a sliver of doubt within me that she doesn’t fully return my heartfelt feelings.
“Yes, it’s all okay. We’re heading out now, but I just wanted to hear your voice and tell you something important” I said tenderly.
“What is it?” she asked seriously.
“I love you so much, and I want a big ass hug and a passionate kiss the second I step through the front door, even if my whole family was there watching” I said flirtingly.
“Alex! I can’t. Maybe a hug, but a kiss is not happening in front of anyone. At least not while we’re still brand new” she said shyly.
I could picture her beet root red cheeks now, and her shy smile with her kissable dimples deepening and marking her more perfect and beautiful than she already is.
“Oh we’ll see” I teased and promised darkly.
“Alex! Come on we’re all waiting here!” shouted Lucas from behind me.
I rolled my eyes at my brother who’s hell bent on always ruining my special moment with her.
“Don’t stress about me ok? I’m coming back to you, I’m far from done with you Jenny Snow, our time is not over yet” I said seriously.
It took her a moment to respond and when she did, her voice came out thick with heavy emotions and I knew she was barely fighting back tears “You better come back to me Alex Snow. You better come back or I will drag you out from whatever heaven you think about sneaking into before we’re done with each other! And just so you know, I’ll never be done with you even after we die of old age, I’ll follow you everywhere and you won’t be able to get rid of me at all”
I chuckled at her words and said lovingly “I wouldn’t dare go anywhere without you Jenny, simply because I can’t exist in a place where you won’t be in it with me and beside me, holding onto my hand”
“Go kick some ass before Lucas comes and kicks yours for making him wait” she said firmly, trying to show me that she’s not worried anymore, even though I know deep inside there is no erasing that worry.
“Ok” I was about to hang up before I heard her frantic voice calling my name.
“I love you too, more than I can possibly express” she said softly.
“Remember when I told you that my heart was carving your name letter by letter? It just finished carving out the letter Y. Now my whole heart is yours and beating for you and as long as I have that with me, nothing can keep us apart. I’ll be seeing you in a bit Jenny” I promised and hung up the phone.
Damn that was a more emotional phone call than I anticipated.
I took a few seconds to take some deep breaths and control my wild feelings that were acting up in response to her sweet words and soft melodic voice, before I head towards the car with all the focus and determination I needed to get this done.
I slip into the passenger seat of the first car parked at the front of about twenty five other cars.
Lucas was taking the wheel. I turn my head towards him and ask “Ready brother?”
He gives me a half serious half playful reaction as he says dramatically “To spill some blood? It’s offending that you even have to ask, brother”
He starts the car and speeds away into the heart of the Alaskan mountains.
There was fifteen minutes until the clock hits six on the dot.
Everyone was positioned behind one of the high hills.
Lucas, four of our men, and I were positioned at the entrance of the border, silently waiting. We had a bullet proof SUV parked between us to take cover from when the fire opens.
We were all wearing bullet proof vests under our shirts as well.
Like I said, I was prepared with all my might to not lose a single damn one of our men.
My instructions were clear to everyone.
Shoot to kill, as much as you can, keep yourselves hidden from flying bullets, and cover each other’s backs.
We had a car hidden a few miles across the border from the Canadian side, to let us know when exactly they are about to arrive.
A message arrives to all our cell phones from the lookouts.
“ETA five minutes”
I keep my position and gaze straight ahead.
To say I wasn’t nervous would be a lie. I was nervous for my men’s safety however, not my own. For Lucas’s too. Even though we are two of the most skilled shooters, he’s still my little brother and It’s my job to keep an eye on him at all times.
Speaking about keeping an eye on him, one minute before the truck arrives, I watch him dash inside the driver’s seat of the SUV, type something on his phone, and suddenly, music blares from inside the car’s sound system. It was on the highest volume and could be clearly heard across the hills to all our hiding men.
He gets out of the car and goes back to his position as he dances out to the beat of the music, totally at ease with the situation, and utterly enjoying the music as he sings out the lyrics.
It was beggin’ by Måneskin.
He looked straight at me with a broad excited smile as he sang at the top of his lungs while banging the hood of the car to the rhythm of the drums “Ridin’ high, when I was king. I played it hard and fast, cause I had everything!”
He pointed his finger at me and challenged me to enjoy the moment and pick up the singing where he left off.
And I freaking did, cause what else was I going to do! He was my brother for all intents and purposes after all.
I smiled excitedly and shouted loudly just like he did “I walked away, you want me then. But easy come and easy go!”
Ok, I knew Lucas had a crazy, twisted side to him, I just never saw it go this far.
He was actually going to make us listen to blaring music during our shootout!
I shook my head at him and mouthed “You’re fucking crazy!”
His smile deepened as he mouthed back “Aren’t we all?”
We both turned our heads forward then, and watched the truck stop right in front of us.
There was only the driver in the front.
He was staring at Lucas in utter confusion, as he was still dancing and singing, completely living his stardom moment like a maniac.
I wave at the driver and motion for him to get out of the truck.
When he doesn’t move, I know exactly why.
At that moment, I see several men appearing from the back of the truck, all carrying guns and wearing bullet proof gears and head masks.
We spring into the action immediately.
I take out my gun from the back of my jeans, and take cover on the side of the car as everyone with me does the same.
Despite the loud music, I can still hear the sound of the bullets firing.
I’m crouching against the front side of the car, while Lucas was in the same position from the back side.
I go down further and take a look at the truck.
I see about fifteen men still standing while the rest were already lying dead on the ground.
I aim for the closest person to me and shoot him in the head.
All our shots must take place there to ensure a clean kill considering the bullet proof vests.
The remaining men who realized they were the ones who got ambushed instead of us, quickly retreated and started to take cover where ever they could.
We kept going back and forth in the same rhythm for about two more minutes. They fire while we hide, and they hide while we fire, nailing some occasional head shots in the process.
While I was taking my cover waiting for an opportunity to go back up and take another shot, I spared a glance at Lucas to check on him.
I’m pretty sure there was a loose fuse inside that head of his.
He was still singing dramatically and whipping his head enthusiastically to the music as he lined his shots exactly to match the beat of the drums.
I freeze in my spot and just stare at him, completely at ease as if it was like our hundredth shootout of the month.
He was ruthless as well, as each shot he fired counted as a kill, much to my surprise.
I knew he was good but right now, he was a killing machine….a cheerful killing machine.
The song ends, and so does the sound of firing guns all around us.
“All clear!” I hear one of the men, who was positioned high up the hill with a sniper and had a better advantage and view of the land down here.
I get up from my position and start walking ahead, taking a look at the scene before us.
Dead bodies laying all around.
“Everyone Okay?” I shout out loud.
I hear several confirmations and feel relieved instantly.
“The driver?” I questioned the men who were approaching with me.
“I took care of him” said Lucas casually.
I stared at him and he shrugged as he said in complaint “What! He was staring at me like I was crazy or something…. I didn’t like his look so I changed it for him”
Ok, a lot more than one loose fuse… definitely.
I focused again on the lying bodies.
“Check if they’re all dead” I instructed the others.
I counted about twenty five men.
Well, I was expecting around that number, he and Lord Z did not disappoint.
“They’re all dead” confirmed one of my men.
“Well, that felt damn satisfying…. For about three minutes” said Lucas with a daydream look on his face.
“It’s about to get more satisfying, brother” I tapped him on the shoulder.
Ok, part one is over.
Time for part two.
Time for you to come home Stefan Snow.
