Chapter 340
Chapter 340
I clenched my fist hard.
‘Should I just kill him.’
I was seriously tempted. Why did I even save that bastard?
The moment Eun Woojeong noticed my icy stare and my tightly clenched fist, he hurriedly tacked on an explanation.
“Of course, if it’s a pain, you can leave right now. Tell the Yesung guildmaster to handle it himself, yeah?”
“Shut up.”
Behind us, Yoon Jeha—who’d been watching the whole situation—let out a long sigh, then flicked her hand.
A tiny light on the surveillance camera blinked once, and the next second it smoked and shattered.
“So. What now? Cha Supporter.”
With her arms crossed and her body leaning at a slant, Yoon Jeha jerked her chin at Eun Woojeong.
“I can accept that this celebrity I only ever saw on TV was actually an S-rank Hunter. And fine, I get that this is Spiderweb’s—whatever—hideout. So can we decide on an actual solution now?”
Then, in the same bored voice, she added,
“For the record, if this is already past the point of no return, I’d rather agree with his side. I think it’ll be easier in the long run if we handle it all here and leave. Those cult bastards are annoying enough—if even more nuisances pile on, that’s a headache.”
Yoon Jeha’s red eyes drilled into me. The look was like she was asking, You think so too, don’t you?
“Yeah, hyung. What are you even thinking about? If they’re gonna come at us no matter what, it’s easier to just kill them fast~”
Kwon Seoyul jumped in too, tossing the opinion on like it was nothing.
I didn’t deny it.
But I also didn’t say I agreed.
Because of Kwon Taehyuk.
In front of that man—someone who’d lived an exemplary, common-sense life—I didn’t exactly want to say out loud that we were going to slaughter every Spiderweb member here.
‘...If it’s Kwon Taehyuk, even if it’s inconvenient for him, he’d probably choose to escape without killing them.’
As if my guess hit perfectly, Kwon Taehyuk didn’t say a word to the end.
He just stood there staring at Eun Woojeong in silence—his back so stubborn it was practically radiating obstinacy.
‘Of course.’
I sighed, but somehow, it didn’t feel suffocating.
Kwon Taehyuk was always like this. Before the regression, and now too. He was just born that way. And by now, I knew exactly how precious it was—having someone who could hold onto thoughts and principles like that.
“...It’s not like that’s the only way.”
Maybe it was because I’d spent so long with Kwon Taehyuk.
This time, the urge rose up out of nowhere—I wanted to protect that straight, honest heart as much as possible.
I turned to Eun Woojeong and asked,
“You said it yourself a minute ago. The members ‘follow orders no matter what.’ That means there’s someone giving those orders. If we deal with that guy, doesn’t that solve the problem?”
“Hmm?”
“You said this is the core. Then whoever gives the orders has to be here too. Instead of killing members one by one—who knows how many there are—wouldn’t it be simpler and cleaner to just cut off the head at the very top?”
A strange light flickered in Eun Woojeong’s eyes. He smiled a little, like he was amused, and asked,
“Well... yeah. If we can find him.”
This bastard.
That vague, half-ass answer—said with a grin—made my fist tighten again.
I took a slow breath and asked calmly,
“What do you mean.”
“I don’t know if he’s even here or not. But it’s not a bad idea.”
Eun Woojeong rubbed at the corner of his mouth as he continued.
“It’ll be hard to believe me in a situation like this, but I was a pretty decent leader, you know. And there’s exactly one person who could give an order to kill me.”
“Fine. Then we just take care of that one person.”
“The problem is... that one person went missing a long time ago.”
The answer was so unexpected my eyes narrowed.
“You serious?”
“Why would I lie after coming all the way here?”
Eun Woojeong shrugged and pointed at his own clothes, stained with blood.
“The reason I got attacked is because I was trying to find him. I didn’t think the kids would still follow him this thoroughly. It’s been more than eight years since he disappeared. Well... I was kind of naive.”
“So to sum it up... You got jumped while trying to find that missing ‘head,’ and you got wrecked instead? And you failed to find where he is?”
With a can’t you tell? expression, Eun Woojeong pointed at the shattered monitors and wrecked computers.
Yeah. I got it. You were digging through info in here and your own underlings stabbed you in the back. Crystal clear.
My head throbbed. I pressed my fingers to my forehead—when Cha Sahyeon, who’d been standing quietly the whole time, suddenly turned his head.
The instant the kid’s gaze moved to the steel door, heavy footsteps came pounding in—and a loud banging echoed as someone slammed at the door.
Bam!
It didn’t sound like they were unlocking it. It sounded like they were trying to destroy the door itself. Something heavy kept smashing into the steel, so loud my ears hurt.
Bam, bam!
The middle of the door bulged outward like it was getting dented from the inside. At the same time, the hinges and connections rattled, shaking like they were about to give.
“What are you gonna do?”
Any second now, that door would come off, and Spiderweb’s Hunters would flood in.
I quickly checked the time on my phone.
4 p.m. Too early to transform into Cover.
If the inside stayed dark, I could force it, maybe—but I didn’t know when we’d end up in a bright area. If the transformation dropped while we were running, it would be even worse.
And anyway, we already had plenty of dealers. For now, it was better to stay in my support role—protected, and helping.
Decision made, I sent Cha Sahyeon a look and said,
“First, we run—and we get a better look at the inside. Whether we kill every Spiderweb bastard, or find the head and kill him, either way, we have to settle this before we leave.”
“Jesus.”
Yoon Jeha sighed like this was annoying as hell, and pulled out her weapon.
At the same time—click. The choker released, and Cha Sahyeon’s body changed.
That child’s frame grew in an instant—bones widening, height shooting up—as he returned to his original form.
“Kid. Don’t kill them.”
“Yeah.”
KWAANG!
The moment Cha Sahyeon answered, the entire steel door tore loose and slammed across the floor, skidding rough and hard.
Beyond the open doorway, Hunters wearing the exact same mask as Eun Woojeong charged in without the slightest hesitation.
They had to have felt the pressure rolling off Cha Sahyeon with his choker off, but they didn’t even flinch. Not a shred of doubt.
‘So this is what “follow orders no matter what” looks like.’
I’d already suspected it, seeing them try to kill Eun Woojeong—the current leader—on command from the real leader who’d been missing for eight years.
But that loyalty—so intense it was almost madness—looked a lot like those cult bastards.
Cha Sahyeon walked forward calmly, took hold of the sword he formed in an instant, and swung once.
A black shadow surged up from the floor and rose like a wave along the blade.
“Ghk—!”
The Hunter who’d been flying in first with a dagger froze midair.
A choking sound tore out of him, and he was swallowed whole by the shadow. And as the black tide rolled in, the other Hunters were dragged under too.
Less than thirty seconds.
The shadows slid back into the floor, flowing away like water. And where they vanished, Hunters lay scattered all over—unconscious.
“...This is fucking insane.”
Yoon Jeha—face set, already in a battle stance—muttered the curse under her breath as she stared.
After subduing ten Hunters in an instant, Cha Sahyeon jogged up to me.
“I didn’t kill them. Like you said.”
“Good job.”
Like he’d been waiting for that, Cha Sahyeon dipped his head slightly. I ruffled that round head a few times, then started moving.
“Let’s go.”
***
“Gah!”
A dull impact—thud—and then a scream.
A Spiderweb member crumpled after taking a clean hit from Kwon Taehyuk’s solid fist.
Down the opposite corridor, the flames Yoon Jeha had created burned high, blocking anyone from closing in.
“This way.”
Eun Woojeong ran in front, guiding us as we sprinted. Without stopping, we tore through the inside—so tangled and complicated it felt like an ant nest.
Except for the brief moments we paused to catch our breath, we’d already been running like this for two full hours.
The order to kill Eun Woojeong—and us—must’ve spread across all of Spiderweb, because the members coming at us didn’t stop.
We still hadn’t found the boss giving those orders, but we did manage to learn a few things about this stronghold.
First: this place was underground.
We’d been moving forever without seeing a single window, so I asked Eun Woojeong—only then did he tell me. Crazy bastard.
Second: it was huge. Bigger than I could’ve imagined.
At first I thought it was spread out like an enormous spiderweb. Now, it felt closer to an ant hill.
‘For now, we’re moving the way Eun Woojeong tells us to...’
But I honestly didn’t know if the boss would be at the end of this.
Even Eun Woojeong got attacked trying to figure it out, so the odds were ridiculously low.
“Hey, Cha Supporter.”
Yoon Jeha came up behind me, irritation heavy in her voice, after casually knocking out someone who tried to charge through the flames and tossing them aside.
“Are we really doing this? It’s been hours. How many hours is it gonna be?”
Yoon Jeha had come all the way here looking for her little brother, and it looked like her patience was hitting its limit—her gaze was sharper than before.
“Either kill them all and leave, or get real information. At this rate, it never ends.”
