174 I’ll kill you
174 I’ll kill you
There was something so wrong with this scene. There was something with this whole scenario. I knew something was up but I didn’t know it was this. I was suspicious.I thought maybe something had happened between the two, but this, this was something else. This was bigger. This was something that could possibly change everything. Jake and Clara. Clara and Jake.
“Please,” Jake pleaded.
My heart was shattering, I could almost hear the glass pieces falling to the floor as I watched the scene unfold in front of me. I used my hand and leaned against the tree in an attempt to hold myself up. My hand gave way and my body slumped against the trunk.
“I can’t… I can’t be with anyone else. I love her. Please understand me,” Jake said.
Clara’s small frame shook and she thrashed in his hold as she tried to get away from him. He didn’t let her go. My throat restricted as I watched them. My mind went from hating how close they were to wondering what happened when they touched. Curiosity and the burning desire to know almost had me wanting to step out and ask them what happened after they touched.
Clara is Jake’s mate.
I tried to wrack my brain for a time we may have spoken about what we would do if we found out. I couldn’t remember. I couldn’t think past the two standing in front of me. My lip trembled as I watched Clara fight against Jake’s hold. He was holding her. He was touching her. He wasn’t supposed to touch anyone else, not like this.
Goddess, I hated this. I hated this so much. Was it really so that she would promise not to say anything or was it so that he could touch her, hold her in his embrace? I felt like I was going to be sick. Pain that I’ve never felt before slammed into me like a lightning shock. My body jerked forward and I slumped to my knees as I gripped my stomach.
“What’s keeping you chained to her?” Clara sobbed. “Is it loyalty? Is it love? Shouldn’t you choose me? Shouldn’t I be the one you crave? Shouldn’t your wolf be demanding you to be by my side? Did you make this choice after speaking to your wolf? Or have you made this decision yourself?”
“Nothing is keeping me chained to her. I’m not shackled to her. I love her. I choose her. I will continue to choose her. It will only ever be here, Clara. I need you to understand that. My heart is with Viktor and Kacie. It’ll never be you,” Jake said.
His grip on her tightened as she thrashed around even harder than before. I was stuck between wanting to rip her hair out and ripping his hands off of her. I wasn’t sure if his words made me happy or hurt my heart more than seeing this play out and knowing how things possibly went down between the two of them.
“Then let me go! Let go of me right now! Let me walk away! Let us leave! Before you even found out about us, you hated me, you abhorred me. and my sisters. You wanted nothing more than for us to get up and leave. If anything, you would have been happy with our deaths. You didn’t want us anywhere near her and you didn’t want us on pack grounds. But look at you now, holding onto me as if you cannot bear the thought of letting me go!”
“That-”
“What? What Jake!? Did I say something wrong? Or were you going to agree with me? Fucking hell, LET GO OF ME! I’m tired of this. I’m so tired of this life. I don’t want to be here anymore. You can’t honestly expect me to stay here. You can’t really think that I would stay here and watch her get to keep you both!!” Clara screamed.
“She needs you, she needs the three of you,” Jake pleaded.
“Don’t even! Does she really need us or do you want me to stay here out of selfishness?! You’re being selfish, Jake! You’re being so fucking selfish! All the years, all the years I’ve spent on the run away from wolves, I’ve never hated them. Not really. They weren’t the ones who made the rules, they weren’t the ones who outlawed us. I hated the mindless following of the rules, I hated the hate without the reason from the wolves, I hated being on the run. For the second time in my life, after Alpha Ken, I hate werewolves,” Clara said.
“Please,” Jake murmured in her hair.
“No, let go of me. You disgust me,” Clara said.
The globes of lights that hung from her ears grew bright and Jake’s hands widened. They were pushed off of her by an invisible force. Clara turned to face him. She looked up at him with fresh tears streaming down her face. She lifted her hand and brought it across her face. I covered my mouth to stop myself from gasping in shock. Jake’s head snapped back but he didn’t move to look at her or move against her. He stayed still.
“Other than for required meetings, I don’t want to see you. If I see you outside of those times, I’ll kill you. Do you hear me? I’ll kill you,” Clara said. She turned on her heel and stormed toward the house. she threw the door open, ran inside, and slammed the door behind her.
