169 Permission
169 Permission
It’s supposed to be the three of us and yet they’re chatting it up without me. They’ve linked without me. They’ve got something to say to each other that can’t be said in front of me and that irritates me to no end. To no fucking end. Maybe I’m being dramatic, maybe I’m being emotional, maybe even fucking hormonal but no matter their reason, they shouldn’t be talking without me. They shouldn’t be conversing without me. It feels like I’m on the outside looking into their relationship and I can’t stand it. I hate it. I hate the predicament I’m in. I hate this whole damn situation.
Why didn’t Jake answer when I asked him about that night?
Why was Jake the first to speak?
Can I trust him?
Can I trust any of them?
Viktor ran the entire night.
Jake, drinking?
Drinking with fucking who? Do I believe this?
Do I take what they’ve said and believe it without asking questions?
Questions that could shake the very foundation of this relationship?
I do know one thing… I won’t ignore the red flags.
“I think that’s bullshit,” I said. I lifted my chin and stared back and forth between the two.
“What?” Jake asked.
“What’s bullshit, Kacie?” Viktor asked.
“One of you are lying. If not both,” I said.
“I-”
“Before you start lying to me, just stop. Either tell me the goddess damned truth or shut your mouth,” I hissed.
“I’m not lying to you, my love,” Viktor said and grabbed my hand. “You’re with holding the truth,” I said.
“Yes.”
“That’s lying,” I said.
“It’s not,” Viktor said. “It is. What’s your reasoning for keeping your secrets? Is it worth keeping if you lose me?” I asked.
“I’ll never lose you,” Viktor growled.
“You don’t get to decide that,” I said firmly. “I do.”
The silence stretches between us. I can feel the distance more than I did after they left me in the room. I don’t plan on buckling and I don’t plan on giving up just because they want to sweep this fight under the rug.
“One of you is lying,” I said. “This isn’t going to go away just because you will it.”
“Can we wait until after?” Jake asked.
“After what? After I’m out in the clear? After we find out I’ve lost this child? After I give birth to a child? When?” I asked.
“I-”
“You have until I find out, Jake. If I find out before you tell me yourself, we’re done,” I said.
“What if it’s for you?” Jake asked.
“I don’t care about what lie you’re telling yourself. Nothing makes secrets okay. Nothing.”
“Please don’t stress,” Viktor urged.
I want to scream.
“Are you saying this because you think I’m pregnant? Do I mean nothing to you if not for this child? Where was this concern when you guys both left me?” I seethed.
They both hang their heads and I want to rip their throats out. I’m blinded by rage. I’m ready to kick them out of the room when someone knocks on the door. Three heads turn toward the noise as the handle turns and the door slowly opens.
The pack doctor, James, walks in but isn’t dressed like a typical doctor with a white coat. I’ve seen him a few times but I still expect to see someone that resembles a doctor not someone who looks a few older than myself. He’s wearing black Nike joggers and a long sleeve fitted shirt. Blonde hair, gray eyes, and a slanted smile. Two nurses follow him in dragging a large machine with them.
He stops at the foot of the bed and greets me and Viktor. He nods at Jake before he asks the two of them to make room for the machine. They shuffle away and the nurses roll the large machine I’m guessing is a sonogram. The guys walk to the other side of the bed and stand by my side. I ignore them and stare at the nurses as they get the sonogram ready. The doctor talks to the guys about the procedure.
“Will it hurt?” Jake asked.
“No,” the James answers.
“If there is a child in my belly,” I start. Five sets of eyes find me but I only look up into the gray eyes of the doctor. “What are the chances it will be healthy after a fight with a humanoid?” I asked.
“A humanoid?” Doctor James asked. He blinks a few times as if trying to tell himself he heard me right.
“Yes, a humanoid made of dirt, mud, and rock.”
“I-I see. Seeing as how badly you were hurt when I looked over you, the chances would be low,” Doctor James said. Viktor and Jake are quiet. “However, if it were your child, the Alpha’s heir would have higher chances.”
“If?” Jake asked. Doctor James turned and looked at him. Despite his youthful appearance, he had an ancient feel about him. “If the child is not biologically Viktor and Kacie’s, his chances will be lower.” Understanding sparks in Jake’s eyes. If the baby is mine and Jake’s, it isn’t likely.
“If the child is biologically Viktor’s, then the chances are higher,” Doctor James said.
“I see,” Jake answered.
His voice cracked and I knew he was hurt. It shouldn’t have mattered who fathered this child, it was the three of ours. But in this case, it mattered. In this one instance, it really did. I wasn’t sure how I felt. I wasn’t even sure of what I wanted at this point.
“Let’s get on with it,” I said.
“Yes, Luna,” Doctor James said with a bow. “Do I have permission to touch her?” He asked Viktor. Viktor wasn’t listening. He had a far off look in his eye and it took Jake calling his name for him to snap out of it. “Alpha?”
“Yes, James?” Viktor asked.
“I need to touch Luna Kacie. Do I have permission to proceed?” Doctor James asked.
“Yes, yes, please do,” Viktor said.
