My Alpha's Mark

150 Wrong

150 Wrong

An animalistic growl vibrates in Jake’s chest. In a flash of movement he’s chest to chest with Clara. His head lowered to bring himself closer with her. His body trembles with his anger. If I thought he was a danger to Clara I would intervene. I’d stop him if I thought he was going to try and physically hurt her, but I also knew Clara could protect herself. Clara lifted her chin, her eyes staring into Jake’s baby blues, the smirk on her face was evidence she wasn’t afraid of Jake.

“What’s a matter?” Clara asked. “Did I say something wrong?” Clara asked. Jake didn’t answer. He just growled low and stared at Clara. “If I didn’t know any better I would think that you were jealous, Jakey.” She moved her head closer to Jake. “The question is who has you so riled up?”

“Isn’t it obvious?” Jake asked. “You’ve done nothing but bring trouble. Now you’re dragging Kacie along. We don’t need anymore trouble or drama in our lives.”

“So it’s the trouble that has you so riled up?” Clara asked. “Because this little show you’re doing right now tells me something else is bothering you. Look at it from my point of view.”

“Why would I do that? I don’t care how you see things. I’m telling you to distance yourself from Kacie,” Jake said.

“Distance myself? We’re here for her. You’re just going to have to get used to me Jakey,” Clara said.

“Not fucking interested,” Jake spat.

“Oh?” Clara asked. Her eyebrow arched and her eyes dipped between them. “I find that very hard to believe.” Her eyes flashed and Jake shook his head. Jake took a step back but Clara reached out and wrapped her hand around his arm. “Are you running away Jakey?” Clara asked.

“I’m not going to waste anymore time on you. Kacie let’s go,” Jake said.

“I thought she was the Luna. Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the Luna was above the Beta. Isn’t she above you?” Clara asked. “Aren’t you above him Kacie?” Clara asked. She turned to face me and I nodded. “See? Who are you to tell Kacie what to do? We were having a good time until you went all alpha-hole on us.”

Jake was back in her bubble, his hand wrapped around her neck. Clara wasn’t afraid though. She stared back up at Jake as if he was doing exactly what she wanted him to do. I don’t know what was happening right now. I was feeling something between the two of them and I wasn’t sure it was only anger. It felt like sexual tension and I wasn’t sure where this came from. I was sure they hated each other. Don’t they?

“Jake. Let her go.”

Jake turned to look at me, his eyes a cold blue as he glared at me. I stood my ground and held eye contact with him. Right now he was pushing it. Whenever it comes to Clara he’s always oversensitive and he needs to get over it. There’s only so much I can tolerate. So what if I was helping her find someone to play with? I don’t see an issue here and I don’t see why that’s any of his business.

“You’re siding with her?” Jake asked.

“I’m not siding with anyone. I’m telling you to let her go. She’s not only my guest but Viktor’s guest. You know this. They are to be treated with respect,” I said.

“She’s shit faced drunk and so are you! I may not be Alpha but I’m your Beta and it’s my duty to protect you. She screams danger Kace! I can’t just leave you here like this.”

“I’m not telling you to leave me. I’m telling you to let her go. I won’t tell you again Jake,” I said. He heard the warning in my tone and released her. His hand fell to his side but his body was still facing her. “Come here,” I ordered. Slowly he turned from her. It was only when I had his full attention that I spoke again. “Come, Jake,” I purred. Hearing the shift in my tone his feet moved until he was in front of me. He dropped to his knees and stared up at me. The anger left his eyes but I could still see it in his posture.

“I didn’t want you to get hurt,” Jake said. His eyes searched mine for understanding.

“I know but we both know I don’t need protecting,” I said. I waited for him to answer but he didn’t. “Don’t we, Jake?” I asked. I lifted my hands and ran my fingers through his hair. His eyes rolled in the back of his head and he reached out for me. His arms wrapped around my waist and I watched as he pressed his head against my belly.

“Yes,” Jake breathed. “Are you angry at me?” Jake asked.

“For throwing your weight around? Yes. For loving me? No,” I said. When I pause he lifts his chin until our eyes lock.

“But?” Jake asked.

“There’s no but,” I started.

“Come on, Kace. I know you,” Jake said.

“It’s not a but. I do think we need to talk,” I said. Jake’s body tensed against mine.

“Do you forgive me?” Jake asked.

“Did you apologize?” I answered his question with a question of my own. When he looked down I knew he knew he hadn’t. Jake’s gaze darted toward Clara before he grumbled. “What?” I asked.

“I don’t want to apologize to her. I’ve done—”

“Are you really going to say you haven’t done anything wrong? Because the corpse bleeding out on the floor says otherwise,” Clara said.

“Shh,” Nyx shushed her.

“I said nothing wrong,” Clara said. “I only stated the facts.”
