117 Lightning

Kacie

Wavy black hair fell just below her shoulders, it had grown since the last time I’d seen her. Striking light blue eyes that resembled lightning stared down at me. Circle orbs hung from her ears as they gave off that familiar orange-yellow glow. A black spaghetti dress hugged her curves. It dipped low and her chest was on display. Black and sheer spirals wrapped around her body leaving little to the imagination.

There was movement behind her and my eyes looked past her to find two fierce women standing behind her. I noticed the one on her left right away. She was the tallest woman I’ve ever seen. She wore tight orange pants that sat on her hips and the bottom of her breasts peeked out from a short black crop top. Her skin was a smooth shiny bronze color, her hair a violent red, and her eyes were all white. The look she gave me told me just how much she didn’t want to be here.

Next, my gaze swept over the woman on her right when I was able to drag my eyes from the other. I noticed her eyes first, her eyes were a light shade of violet. this woman was blonde and had pencil straight here that stopped halfway down her back. Her lips were pink and thin and she stood only a few inches above Clara. My eyes trailed down her body, she wore a long-sleeved plain black dress that swooped out around her thighs. She liked her gold because gold bangles adorned her wrists and arms and had gold hoops hanging from her ears.

I’m going to assume they’re here with us. My lips parted and my jaw dropped as the women behind Clara dispelled and collided with the enemy and began fighting the rogues. I was thoroughly shocked. The witches were fighting beside my comrades and at this moment, it didn’t matter that witches were banned. The three of them on our side put us at a huge advantage. My gaze returned to Clara and she smiled down at me.

“I’ll take the earlier discussion at the meeting as an invitation to cross your pack’s borders. Let your pack of wolves know the witches are here,” Clara took a step closer to the wolf still struggling mid-air. Her eyes were wide and her face had an expression of amusement, you’d see on a cat playing with a mouse, as she watched him.

“Inform them in a way they’ll know we’re not attacking. Let them know we’re on your side and are fighting for their Luna. I’d hate for one of them to attack my sisters. They’re not as forgiving as I am, and won’t hesitate to defend themselves or each other. They can’t be held responsible if attacked.”

The witches are on our side. Do not attack them. They fight for me, they fight for us.

I mind-linked the entirety of the pack and I had a few questions shouted back at me up through the link; that I ignored. Clara was here and she’d saved my life, and not for the first time.

There was so much I’d wanted to say, should have said the last time I’d seen her. She proved she was more than deserving and she had my trust. While I didn’t know her sisters, my trust carried over to them, at least, for now. I hadn’t spoken a word since she’d made her appearance.

“You saved my life,” my voice came out breathy. My chest rose and fell as I exhaled lungfuls of air. I was still seated on top of the wolf I’d knocked out. Clara turned from the wolf she was playing with and stared at me as I spoke. She knew I wasn’t just talking about today. “After the last time I saw you, I didn’t think I’d see you again.”

“Why would you look for me?” Clara asked.

“I wanted to talk to you. I had so much I wanted to say.”

She tilted her head to the left as she watched me. Clara, the witch was silent and I waited for her to speak.

“I tried to steal your mate from you, I aided in your kidnapping, and I held you captive,” Clara said without emotion but she stared at me expectantly.

“Yes.” I laughed as I got to my feet. “I thought we got along despite the fact that you were holding me captive.” Clara smiled at this and nodded.

“If we’re going to pick out your faults, then yes, you did all those things but let’s not pretend it was all bad. You made good choices too, you did good things. Let’s not pretend you didn’t have your reasons.”

“You did those things for your sister,” Clara’s eyes drop to the grass below our feet at the mention of her sister. When she looked up at me, I couldn’t place the emotion in her eyes. “In the end, you helped me, you let me go.”

“I did but only because I had no reason to keep you anymore. She was dead.”

“I know,” I whispered. “And I was so sorry. Were you able to find her?”

She nodded. “I did. I found her where he said he buried her. At least in that, he didn’t lie.”

“I’m glad you found her.”

Ken had been a piece of work. If he had lied about where he buried her, she never would have found her. I’ve never been in her situation before but I know if I ever lost anyone of the people I love, I’d lose it. And then, to not be able to find their body? I shake the thought from my mind.

“We have a period of mourning after we bury our own. The vision came to me as soon as the period of mourning ended,” Clara said. “It’s a good thing I made it here when I did. You would have been dog food,” Clara jerked her head in the direction of the rogue hovering in the air by her. The topic of the last time would be dropped for now.

“It is,” I agreed. “Thank you for making it when you did.”
