A little of my fears were erased. It felt good knowing Jamie was being supportive. There was still the pack to convince but I wouldn’t focus on that right now. Jamie throws open the door to the office and the guys follow us in.

It’s spotless, there wasn’t a speck of dust in sight. The workers keep up the cleaning schedule even if he’s gone. Viktor strode in and took a seat behind his desk. Jake stood to the right of his desk and Jamie walked over to the left; taking me with her.

“I’m glad to have you guys home but now it’s time to get back to it. A messenger from the pack Silver Moon reached out. Viktor is being summoned for a meeting with the Alpha’s of the surrounding pack.”

“Regarding what?” Viktor asked.

“The letter wasn’t specific but go ahead and take a look. It’s inside the folder on your desk,” Jamie said. Viktor opened up the folder and grabbed the first paper from the pile and started reading it.

“There was also a small disturbance while you guys were gone,” Jamie said. Viktor stopped reading and put the paper down.

“What disturbance and why am I only hearing about it now?” Viktor asked angrily.

“You guys were preoccupied and far away. I didn’t want to reach out unless it was an emergency, which it wasn’t. Luckily, Delta Declan rushed to assist me and we were able to get it under control,” Jamie said.

“Were there any casualties?” Viktor asked.

“No, Alpha,” Jamie said, in full Gamma mode. “A rogue crossed the border and thankfully I was the only one out there.”

“Why were you alone, Jamie?” Viktor asked.

“I didn’t go out partying alone. I went for a run, Vik.”

“Don’t give me that shit,” Viktor said.

“Back to what I said,” Jamie said, a little sibling sass slipped through and I was loving it. “I had been running when I smelled his scent in the air. He lunged at me and we started fighting. I was confident in my abilities to handle him but when four other rogues stepped over the border, I linked Declan.”

“You would have been in trouble against five rogues, Jamie,” Jake said. “Any trained soldier would have struggled against five.”

“I know,” she sighed. “When I stood against them, I wasn’t sure Declan would make it in time but he was quick.”

“Thank Goddess for that,” I murmured.

“Right? You would have had to go through the trouble of finding a new Gamma,” she said in mock fright. Viktor threw his head back and laughed. I loved the sound, it made me smile.

“You aren’t going anywhere,” I said. She turned her head to look at me and smiled.

“At least I have, Kacie,” Jamie sighed. I smiled wider at that. Viktor filled her in on what he found out from the elders.

“There could still be others like Kacie out there living in hiding,” Jamie said. “I don’t know how we’d look for them but maybe we could try.”

“No, I don’t want to go searching for them. If they’re hiding it’s because they don’t want to be found.”

“Then what are we going to do? Will you train separately? I’ve heard you’ve been improving,” Jamie said.

“I have another option,” I started. I didn’t miss the way the guy’s eyes focused on me. “I want to reach out to Clara. If I can get into contact with her, I would like to bring her here. We’ve already discussed this and the more I think about it the better it sounds.

I inhaled sharply as Jake whirled me around, his eyes black with anger as he looked down at me.

“Jake-” Jamie started.

“Stay out of this, Gamma,” Jake warned, not even looking at her. Jamie looked as if she wanted to say something but didn’t. She watched like a hawk as she took a seat.

“Let go of me,” I demanded, my heart spiking when he didn’t so much as loosen his grip on me.

“Why are you contemplating bringing her here? Are you out of your mind?” Jake spat.

I didn’t reply, instead, I pulled myself from his hold. He pushed me so I was seated at Viktor’s table. My mate sat back in his chair while he watched us. “What the actual fuck, Jake?”

“Tell me why you’re so calm about allowing her here. She’s a threat to our pack, to our home. Aren’t you worried?” Jake asked.

“Other than the fact that she’s a witch, why should I be worried? Are you so insecure that you’d worry about her coming between us?” My question hung in the air and no one spoke for a moment. I didn’t know why he was so angry but this was unacceptable.

“Tell me why you want her here, Kacie. Help me understand,” he said.

“Yes, she’s a witch but I have an ability too, Jake. If you can’t accept me why can’t you accept her?” I asked.

“That’s two different things,” Jake said, shaking his head.

“Is it? I don’t see the difference other than the fact that she’s a witch.”

“Do you not care that she tried to take Viktor?” Jake asked.

“Take? She tried to claim her destined mate. Isn’t that what we all do? I was afraid in the beginning but I firmly believe that Viktor loves me. I don’t doubt him and he’s already proven himself to me. He rejected her. Do you question Viktor’s loyalty?”

Jake sighed and his shoulders slumped. “No.”

“I’d sooner cut my own heart out than hurt the ones I love. I think Viktor feels the same way,” I said and looked to my mate. His gaze lingered on Jake before darting to me.

“I do.”

Jake dropped his head to mine. “I’m sorry for my outburst, My Queen.” Remembering Jamie, he lifted his head and took a step back. I placed my hand on his cheek as I looked up at him.

“Thank you for apologizing,” I murmured. I offered him a smile. I wanted to lean up and kiss him but didn’t want to do anything in front of Jamie. “Don’t do it again,” I teased. I was rewarded with a crooked grin.
