42 For me
42 For me
Kacie
Fuck it.
I snatch the knife from the table and slip it between my breasts. The blade cuts into skin but I don’t care. I’ve been through worse and if memory serves me correctly the rest of my stay here won’t be pleasant.
If I’m going to have to go through it all over again. I’ll be damned if I just let it happen. I can’t. If she’s the obstacle between me and freedom. I’ll fight.
The door is thrown open and in walks Clara. Her short black hair falls in waves and her blue eyes lock on me as she glides in. Today she’s wearing a long black dress that falls down to her ankles paired with black strapped heels. Her earrings hang and glow mischievously from her ears.
Her eyes fall on me and take in my outfit before she takes a seat in my chair. She sits back until her back is pressed against the seat. Clara stares at me with a look in her eye that I can only place as challenging.
I swallow.
We stare the other down for a few minutes before I make the first move and sit in Ken’s chair. This is her fault.
“I won’t apologize to you,” she says. “He was my destined and I had a reason behind the things I did.”
Athena wants to rip her throat out and I want to scream. I settle for growling.
“I don’t want to hear your excuses,” I spit.
“I won’t give you any. I’m not sorry,” she says and gives me a look that says she means it.
“I don’t understand how you could work with him. What was the whole point of helping him?” I ask.
“I don’t need to explain myself to you,” she says.
I sigh.
“We’ve got nothing but time though, don’t we?” I say.
Clara huffs.
“My family is worth everything to me. Without her, I am nothing and if it weren’t for you, I would have had a family with Viktor,” she says in the quietest voice. If it weren’t for my wolfish hearing I wouldn’t have heard her.
She lifts her head and looks me in the eye, “So forgive me, if I don’t give a fuck about what you think or how you feel. You took everything that was supposed to be mine!” I don’t see her hand but the slap gives me whiplash.
Laughter bubbles out of my chest.
“Let’s not pretend here. I didn’t take anything away from you. I met him first as the Goddess planned. You were given a chance. Don’t pretend I didn’t give you a chance. You threw it away. So please, tell me. Was it worth throwing your destined away? I can’t complain but I’m curious. I’d never throw Viktor aside,” I say.
Her mask drops for only a second but that’s all I needed to see the pain she’s hiding. The gut-wrenching despair in her eyes. In the next instant, the mask is back in place but I saw what I saw. I know it hurts her more than she’s letting on.
“If he’d met me first it would be you he threw out. Let’s not pretend that what you have is some gift,” she says angrily and the air zaps with a cold current. “You’re not special. The only thing that gave you the upper hand was meeting him first.”
My hair stands on end and I feel the warmth in the tips of my toes again. The cold chill is radiating off of her and the warmth in me heats and starts to spread throughout my body. My heat reacting to her cold.
“That’s not true,” I say confidently. “Even if he met you first, it wouldn’t have been the same. He would have chosen me in the end. Do you know why?”
She doesn’t say anything, she just glares at me.
“Because I was made for him and he for me. The Goddess blessed our union because you could never give him what I give him. You could never have what we have.”
My heart is hammering against my chest and the anger is fanning the heat. I stand up and push my chair to the ground. “A selfish backstabbing treacherous witch like you wouldn’t have been able to match him,” I bite.
She’s on her feet and a chilly whip of static slams through the air. The chairs and the table split in half and slide to the ground. I’m too stunned to react. All I can do is look at her. I watch as Clara’s eyes glow and she’s almost hovering off the ground.
“He wanted me as much as I wanted him,” she hisses. “When we were alone the night I arrived, he was hard for me.” I watch as her eyes start to water, “Not for you! For me,” she cried.
The heat burns in my chest and her words pierce my heart. Why did the Goddess make two of us for him? I know that he felt things for her. He told me himself but it was just the mate bond it wasn’t what we have.
I saw the way he looked at her and I could see the way he struggled to lock his feelings for her away. I want her to hurt far worse than I hurt. “That was the mate bond pulling him to you,” I tell her.
In the blink of an eye, she’s in front of me and we’re both staring each other down. “You keep telling yourself that princess but deep down,” she says and takes a step closer so our noses almost touch, “we both know you don’t really believe that and you’re no different than me.”
I bite the inside of my lip.
“The only difference is that you met him first,” she tells me. “If he met me first, things would be reversed. He would have rejected you,” she spits and presses a finger against my chest. The chilling cold collides into my chest and throws me back.
