My Alpha's Mark

39 Waiting

39 Waiting

Clara “Bitch,” she spat.

I threw Alpha Ken a glare, but turned my focus back on Kacie, and smiled as sweetly as I could. I stood and stepped back.

“I haven’t stopped thinking of you since the night you left.” His words causing a shiver down my spine. He’s disgusting.

“You never should have left. You were mine, always have been, always will.”

Kacie lifts her chin and casts the meanest glare up at him.

“I was never yours.”

I ignored the pride that blossomed in my heart. Despite being powerless and bound on the floor she held her ground and showed no fear. I didn’t let that show as I glared down at her.

I needed to play this part. I had no choice. My thoughts and feelings on everything that had conspired since I went to Viktor didn’t matter. It didn’t matter what I wanted and even if I had voiced what I wanted. He would have rejected me anyway.

From the beginning, I had no hope of being with my destined, had no hope of being part of his pack, of being his Luna. He was never mine.

Even though I knew I couldn’t be with him or be a part of his world or in his life. For a fleeting moment, I’d loved being near him and his loved ones. I wanted to get to know him and introduce my sister to him. I wanted to be a part of his life.

Family is all we have. Family is sacred… and… he was supposed to be my family. He would have been my family. If it weren’t for this mutt and his obsession with Kacie.

My mind replays the last time I’d been with my sister. Even though Harper was a teenager, she still acted like a child. She leaned in and gave me a hug with a quick kiss to my temple.

“I love you, sissy!”

I’d promised to take her to the beach. She’d never gone but had an obsession with it. I was always too busy trying to hone my magic, trying to get stronger. I never took her.

“I was never yours,” Kacie said defiantly to the mutt, dragging me from my thoughts. I stared down my nose at her, the shadows begging me to release them, to let them have her. To destroy her.

I held them back. I needed to play the villain but I didn’t want to hurt her. If I hadn’t met the mutt before going to Viktor, I would have actually liked her. Her courage and kindness when she found out about Viktor and my bond were surprising.

If things weren’t as they were. I think Kacie and I could have gotten along but that didn’t happen.

I shook my head, shook the silly thoughts from my head.

I needed to get my sister back. I already sacrificed my destined and my future. I sacrificed his mate. I’d sacrifice my soul for Harper. I needed to finish this.

“You don’t know how badly I want you,” Alpha Ken said as he looked down at her. “I’d take you now but I’m a patient man and you’re,” he wrinkled his nose, “not ready.”

Alpha Ken ordered Beta Rich and his other follower to take her to his quarters. I don’t know what they had in plan for her but I would stay here for as long as he wanted and I would do whatever he wanted. Regardless of the consequence, regardless of the guilt.

Kacie

I’m finally untied and sitting in a small dining room. The interior is well worn and the walls are empty.

Beta Rich is waiting for his soldier to do a perimeter check before we head to the next house. Clara is nowhere in sight.

“I need to use the bathroom,” I announce to Beta Rich.

He stares at me for a second before looking away, dismissing me.

“I need to go. How long have I been here? What time is it? I don’t even know how long it’s been since I last went,” I say, feigning urgency. “I don’t know how much longer I can hold it.”

Beta Rich strides over to me and the man next to him follows him. He pulls me up and starts walking. I sigh and follow as his soldier makes it back and walks behind me.

When we get to the bathroom there aren’t any windows and thankfully, he doesn’t follow me in. I’m guessing since there’s no way out of it, I’m allowed this small decency of privacy.

I just need a minute to myself so I can clear my head and get back into fight mode. When I come out the other male with Beta Rich’s eyes trail down my body. I squirm and look to Beta Rich.

I stare at him. I stare at him as coolly as I can, so he doesn’t know that I’m afraid. I don’t let him see the fear that’s building up in my belly. Even if I was to put up a fight, I can’t win a fight with two male wolves. At least, not with them keeping a close eye on me.

I’m not giving up just yet.

After we left the building, they took me to a small house. There were two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The sound of the water told me we were near the ocean.

My eyes glide around the room assessing all possible exits. I stand straighter and look around the room again, making myself aware of what’s within arms reach and what could help me possibly escape.

Beta Rich walked me towards one of the bedrooms and shoved me into the bathroom. This bathroom has large windows, granite counters, and a beautiful tub.

“Get yourself cleaned up. I’ll be waiting outside your door.”

As I shower, I pull together my thoughts and consider, trying to figure a way out of this situation. I wrap myself in a towel and go to investigate the room they put me in. I find the red dress that plagued my nightmares and I slip into it as I try to hold my quivering chin still.

I shouldn’t be here. I should be with Viktor in our home, in our bed. I should have asked him to take a few days off. We’ve been so busy…

I know he’ll be here soon. I don’t know where he went but I know… I won’t let myself succumb to the fear of what he wants or what might happen if this dress is any indication. Not soon after I’m dressed, Beta Rich opens the door and comes in.

“Alpha Ken is waiting,” he says.

And I lift my chin and follow him out.
