Chapter 165: Truth Uncovered
Chapter 165: Truth Uncovered
Bryce and Martin stared at what the servant was pointing at and were both shocked to the bone, unsure what they were staring at.
"What is this?" Bryce asked returning his gaze to the servant.
"Mrs Anderson," the servant replied and Martin walked towards what the servant was pointing.
"You mean to say, this dark-looking liquid in this bowl is Mrs Anderson?" Bryce asked while Martin looked closely at the liquid in the bowl.
"I am no expert but whatever this is, it stinks like blood," Martin reported.
"What did they do to her? How did she end up like this?"Bryce asked the servant.
"Mrs Davis placed her in that machine," the servant replied, pointing to the huge machine, which looked like an enclosed hyperbaric chamber, sitting at the side of the wall.
Martin got closer to the machine and began examining it.
"That is how she makes people disappear. She will put them into this machine, and they will come out looking like this," the servant said, pointing to the bowl of thick, dark liquid. "When she has too many of them, they pour it away into the city sewage," she added.
"Boss, the machine can liquify anything placed inside it, including living things," Martin reported after reading some things written on the machine.
Bryce was still shocked that Matilda had hidden such a machine in the apartment.
"Martin, call the authorities and report this," Bryce said and turned towards the exit. "Have someone confirm that is truly Mrs Anderson," he added hoping it wasn't.
Bryce was concerned about how Angela would react to the news of Mrs Anderson's death. Mr Anderson was already gone and now Mrs Anderson.
Martin did as Bryce had requested and within a few minutes, the police were at the Davis family premises again. Bryce sat in the back seat of the car with his head thrown back while thinking about Angela. He promised to find Mrs Anderson and now it looked like he was going to announce her death to her.
He was still sitting in the car when he saw the police carry the matching out of the apartment together with the liquids in the bowls kept in the basement. Bryce was surprised to see so many bowls of liquids being carried out of the basement.
"Sir, we will have a confirmation whether or not that liquid belongs to Mrs Anderson by close of the day," Martin informed Bryce and he just nodded.
"How is the other investigation coming?" Bryce asked hoping for some good news.
"I would have a complete report by close of day today. I am waiting for verification of a piece of information I collected," Martin reported and Bryce nodded.
"Let's go home," Bryce said and Martin got behind the wheel.
They left the Davis compound and were soon heading back to the apartment. They were still unaware of the tracker under the car.
Martin drove into the compound and parked the car. Bryce got down and Martin handed him his crutches. He used it to aid his walking into the apartment. He went upstairs to check on Angela first. He was happy she was sleeping when he entered the bedroom. He was not ready to tell her what had happened to Mrs Anderson. He wanted the confirmation first.
He changed his clothes into something casual and quietly exited the bedroom for the study.
Inside his study, he checked how much he had left in his bank account. He stared at the figure which was fast reducing with all the investigation going on.
"I need to start something to generate some revenue," Bryce thought.
He was not ready to manage any of the supposedly legit businesses owned by the Davis family. He stared at his laptop screen looking at the amount left in his bank account. He thought of what to do with the money to generate enough income. He started playing with some ideas.
He was not sure how long he had stayed in the study until Angela walked in. Bryce raised his eyes to meet her gaze.
"Supper is ready," Angela announced.
"What time is it?" Bryce asked checking the time on his laptop screen.
"It's half an hour past hour 6," Angela replied resting her hand on the back of the chair sitting in front of Bryce's desk.
"I didn't know it was that late," Bryce said and stood up from behind his desk.
He had made a lot of progress exploring an idea and developing a business plan for it. He saved what he had done and turned off his laptop. He stood up from behind his desk grabbing his crutches. Angela got closer and helped him. The two walked out of the study, heading for the dining area.
"Great, you two are finally here," Zora said placing the last dish she had brought in on the table as Angela and Bryce entered the dining room.
Angela smiled and helped Bryce to the head of the table. Bryce sat down and Angela placed the crutches on the side. She sat down next to him and Zora sat down opposite Angela. Martin walked in.
"Awesome, now, everyone is here," Zora said making room for Martin who started feeling awkward at the sight of Zora.
Bryce noticed and just smiled.
"Do you have everything?" Bryce asked trying to get Martin's mind off Zora so he could be comfortable.
"Yes, I did," Martin replied staring at Bryce and bringing himself for focus.
"No work, let's eat," Angela said.
"Sure," Bryce said and Zora aided in the serving of the dishes.
Martin was sitting next to Zora, occasionally stealing glances at her. This behaviour caught Angela's eyes and she also smiled.
Dinner was soon over and Angela and Zora cleared the table while Bryce and Martin went back to the study to discuss the report.
"Okay, so what do you have?" Bryce asked once he was sitting on the couch inside his study.
"Sir, it appears things are not what they seem to be," Martin began and Bryce listened attentively. "Ten years ago, the story we know was that Angela's father, Mr Adams was murdered because of his greed to take over a company, he, Mr Moore, Mr Anderson and Mrs Anderson built together. It was Mr Moore who found him out and the murder was planned. Unfortunately, Mrs Adams was murdered in the process and Angela became an orphan," he narrated.
"That wasn't true," Martin said after reminding Bryce of the story everyone knew. "In this document is the truth about what happened exactly," he said and handed the file to Bryce.
Bryce took the file and started going through it while Martin narrated exactly what happened.
"Mr Moore framed Mr Adams up intending to take over the company and he succeeded. Mr Adams was indeed the finance manager of the company at the time but Mr Moore was the one who prepared the documents and transferred the shares of Mr and Mrs Anderson including himself into Mr Adams's name. When Mr Adams found out what he had done, he confronted him and Mr Moore asked him to play along so the company would belong to the two of them. The idea was to kick Mr and Mrs Anderson out of the company," he narrated.
"But Devon doubled crossed Mr Adams after he agreed to it," Bryce said.
"Yes," Martin replied. "He went behind Mr Adams's back and plotted his murder with Mr and Mrs Anderson," he added.
"So Devon was the mastermind behind the whole company snatching plot," Bryce said. "And about Matthew Moore, my father. What did you find?" he asked.
"He is indeed your father," Martin replied. "In the Moore family, your father was the richest. He was the eldest and inherited the largest share of their father's fortune. He put his inheritance to good use but Devon Moore messed his inheritance up and returned to his brother Mathew Moore. Mathew Moore took him in and sheltered him. He set him up with a business but Devon Moore messed it up running the business into bankruptcy," he narrated.
"At the time, your father was also on to the Davis family," Martin informed him. "He had met Ms Josephine at a grocery shop and liked her. This was when he started learning about the Davis family deals and he targeted them. He wanted to expose them. He went into their mist proposing a business idea which they bought into. He married Josephine and kept his associations with them a secret. Mrs Davis found out about his plans when her son mysteriously went missing while working with Mathew Moore. She quickly discovered that Mathew Moore was having them picked up one after the other. He teamed up with Devon and had Mathew killed," he narrated.
"Mr Devon Moore being a double-crosser as he is, wanted to take Mr Mathew's wealth for himself including some properties of the Davis family. Matilda cut ties with him immediately after Mathew was gone," he added.
"Mr Mathew Moore got to know that, they were going to kill him and Mr Devon was involved. He had thought you were dead until he found out that Devon had you switched at the hospital with his wife's dead child. Your father left all his inheritance to you. Devon was only to manage it until you were of age," he informed him. "But now he wants to take that fortune away from you," he added.
"So that was where Devon got the money to invest in the business idea which led to the murder of Mr Adams," Bryce said.
"Yes," Martin said. "All the evidence is in this file," he added.
"Let's reopen Mr Adams's murder case," Bryce said. "About Mrs Anderson," he asked.
"Unfortunately, that was her remains," Martin replied.
"What happened to Mrs Anderson? What remains are you two talking about," Angela asked drawing Bryce and Martin's attention to the door where she stood staring at them.
