146: Letter from Mother - Part 1

Bryce and George turned around to find out who had just spoken.

"Susan?" Bryce mentioned her name surprised to see her there, especially after what happened at the Moore family house.

"Hello Bryce," Susan greeted, finely dressed in a black straight dress, looking seductive as always. She had her head covered with a scarf wrapped around her neck.

"You have some nerves coming here?" Bryce growled, scanning the environment for signs of anyone hiding somewhere, looking out for Susan.

"First my condolence for your loss. I had no idea that happened. Mr Moore only wanted to use her to bring you back to your senses," Susan said and Bryce frowned.

He almost advanced towards Susan but George held him preventing him from reaching Susan. Susan took a step back seeing Bryce's angry face.

"If Mr Moore intended to kill her, do you think, he would have kept her there for that long?" Susan pointed out and Bryce growled like a beast who wants to tier its enemy apart.

"Well, it's a good thing, the guard who harmed her was dealt with on the spot," Susan said. "I have not come here for that. I have come here for an entirely different reason," she said like the death of Josephine was no big deal.

"Bryce, you are in the dark. Something is happening around you and you are the only one clueless about it," Susan said. "I know you are angry but calm yourself and let's speak privately. We have known each other since childhood and you know I love you. I would not do anything to harm you," she added.

Bryce stared at Susan for a while. Growing up, Susan was full of schemes but she was right about her love for him.

"Kindly excuse us," Bryce said curious about what Susan wanted to say to him.

"I would be in the car," George said and walked away.

"You have ten minutes, so start talking?" Bryce said as soon as he was alone with Susan.

The two stood alone far away from the people leaving the graveside. Matilda had already left with an excuse that she could not bear the pain of watching her daughter being lowered into the grave.

Susan advanced towards Bryce and tried to touch him on the chest but Bryce took a step back.

"Start talking, Susan," Bryce yelled but kept his voice in a tone that would not draw attention to them but unfortunately for them, someone took a picture of them.

"I heard what Eva did. I know she may have mentioned my name as an accomplice. I am not. I have no hand in what she did," Susan said and Bryce hissed, boiling with anger.

"How stupid do you think I am, Susan?" Bryce asked through gritted teeth.

"Bryce, do you think I came all the way here to make a mockery of myself?" Susan questioned with a serious expression. "I know you may not believe me, but hear me out and do your investigation," she said. "I discovered a few days ago that your father Devon Moore is my biological father. The man I knew as my father, was incapable of having children. He came to see your father and asked him to get my mum pregnant," she informed him and Bryce relaxed a bit and stared at her briefly before speaking.

"Why are you telling me this?" Bryce asked, knowing Susan did not come to see him just to tell him, she recently discovered they were half-siblings.

"I just came to tell you that, we are half-siblings," Susan said and Bryce frowned shocked by Susan's answer but felt he should clear that notion, so she would know they are not related in any way and hence have nothing in common.

"We are not. Devon is not my biological father," Bryce informed her with a lot of anger in his expression, giving off the vibe that he would never want to have Susan as a relative.

"Oh, I didn't know that," Susan said and stared at the ground briefly before returning her gaze to Bryce.

"So you came here to tell me this?" Bryce asked, still feeling Susan did come to tell him just that.

"Erm, no," Susan said and adjusted her scarf. "I thought I should let you know we are siblings, so marriage between us won't be possible," she said.

"We are not but still marriage between us won't be possible. I will not marry you, Susan, even if you're the only woman left on earth," Bryce interrupted and Susan lowered her head briefly before returning her gaze to Bryce's face swallowing her pain.

"You know Eva and I were very close. I went to her home to clear up her things and arranged for her burial. I found something in her room and I felt you should see it," Susan said ignoring Bryce's earlier statement like she didn't hear.

She reached into her bag, brought out a brown envelope she had folded and handed it to Bryce.

"What is it?" Bryce asked staring at the envelope not ready to accept it.

"I think, you should take a look yourself. Look into it before you make the mistake of your life," Susan said holding the envelope up to Bryce.

Bryce stared at Susan's face and shifted his gaze to her hand which was holding up the envelope to him. He accepted the envelope reluctantly.

"I will take my leave now. Wishing you the best," Susan said, turned around and started walking away.

Bryce stared at her back as she walked away for a while before returning his gaze to the envelope in hand. It was already opened. He looked inside and there were some papers inside it. He folded the envelope and shoved it into the inner pocket of his jacket before heading to the place where their car was parked.

Inside the car, George was sitting in the back seat waiting for Bryce when the door to the back door opened and Matilda got in.

"I thought you had already left?" George said surprised to see Matilda.

"I was just acting sad. Bryce may be silent but I know he is watching my every move and expression. He is asking himself questions and may connect the dots very soon. Now what do you think, he might think if I leave this place entirely when it's my daughter they are lowering into the grave," Matilda said and air quoted my daughter.""Good work done," Matilda said. "It's time to execute our plan," she added.

"Sweety, hang in there. You will be home soon," Matilda prayed silently in her heart.

"Mr Moore is here," the guard behind the wheel announced.

"Great, let's go home," Matilda said touching up her make-up.

The car was soon in motion.

"It's there a need to do that?" George asked. "Remember you were crying. No, weeping. No, "he was about to use another description when Matilda interrupted him.

"I get it," Matilda said and put the make-up back into her bag.

After a couple of minutes drive, the three cars pulled over in the compound of the Davis family compound parking under the sheds. Bryce's car went into the garage because of Angela. Angela was not supposed to know that Bryce also lived in the mansion with her. It was a big mansion so it was easy for Bryce to avoid crossing paths with Angela.

Outside, Matilda and George got out of the car and two guards followed them towards the front door.

"I forgot to mention. Susan McClean came to see Bryce at the cemetery. After Susan was done teasing Bryce, she requested privacy with Bryce. So I don't know what they discussed," George informed Matilda.

"That girl is plotting with Devon to find a way to get Bryce to sign off his inheritance from his father to Devon. Devon was supposed to take care of Bryce and transfer the inheritance to him once he is of age but Devon has failed to do that. Twice, the property has eluded him. He murdered Matthew for the inheritance but Matthew made it difficult for him to get it and now his plan to get Bryce to transfer the inheritance to him has failed. He using marriage now but that is also not working for him," Matilda explained.
