Chapter 123: The Pain of Being Abandoned

Chapter 123: The Pain of Being Abandoned

At the station, one of the officers went to see Angela in her withholding cell.

"How are you holding up in there?" the officer asked, but Angela sat on her bed in silence. Well, tomorrow, a judge decides your fate. And from what I hear in the news, there is no salvation for you," she said, and Angela kept her head lowered, not showing any reactions to the officer's words.

"The Moore family are having an engagement party tomorrow after burying Mrs Moore today," she said and Angela raised her head to look at her. "Ah! Finally, something got your attention," she said and giggled. "Such is life, people enjoy happy moments, while others cry and some are in your kind of situation, facing a judge," she said and Angela wondered why the officer was there running her mouth.

"Okay, I will leave you now. Just came to let you know, your days of staying in a withholding cell end tomorrow," she said and left the place.

"This could only mean Bryce is moving on with Susan," Angela thought feeling hurt.

Angela heard the sound of her withholding cell lock turn and she raised her head to see who had come to tease her this time. There standing inside her cell was Bryce. His face carried a frown and he was holding something to his side on his left. He was very cold and his face was unwelcoming. He was still handsome like always but his gaze carried a dangerous stare. Almost like a beast ready to devour its prey. Angela pushed backwards on the bed, terrified by Bryce's presence.

"I am here to do three things only," Bryce spoke, his voice very deep and void of emotion. "Find out why you took the life of my mum and sister and who is the father of the child you are carrying," he said and Angela frowned.

"Answer me! Damnit!" Bryce yelled at her after waiting and it didn't seem like Angela was ready to speak.

Angela jolted backwards. Her heart raced against her chest as fear gripped her. She was also hurt hearing Bryce's question. Bryce looked completely different from the man who had visited her the last time and even kissed her. There was only one question on Angela's mind. What happened to him?

"I am innocent. I didn't harm your sister and I never even met your mum again after meeting her at the family house," Angela replied, evidence of her pain registered in her voice.

Bryce's heartache hearing Angela's voice but he didn't allow his emotions to subdue him.

"I see," Bryce said. "How did your parents die again? And why did you run away from the hospital after passing out in my family house?" Bryce questioned and Angela raised her head to stare at him surprised by the question.

"Why is he asking me this question? Does he know who killed my parents?" Angela thought, staring at Bryce in silence.

"I see you are shocked by my question. Let me tell you what happened," Bryce said. "I know about Paul Adams, your father. The greedy man who decided to scam my father and two other business partners. He took his greediness to someone he shouldn't and he paid dearly with his life. Today, you think the murderer of your parents is connected to me because you saw an artefact that belongs to your father in my family home," he said and Angela stared at him shocked. "Your father gifted a twin copy of that artefact to my father. That is what you saw at my father's home, not the one stolen from your home on the day your parents were murdered," he completed his narration and Angela just stared at him unable to utter a word.

"I know what was done to your parents in your presence as a child was cruel but you could at least confirm whatever you suspected before taking the lives of innocent people who were supporting you. They love you even when they don't know you. They went up against my father for you and what did you do? You took their life away from them in the name of revenge," Bryce said angrily and Angela could still not react as she was still shocked.

She didn't know the whole story behind her parents' death because no one told her. She was only looking for her parents' murderers because she wanted justice for her parents. His father was a collector, so was it true that the artefact she saw at Bryce's family home was a twin of the one her father had, or Bryce is just making this story up to push everything on her so he could be free to be with Susan?

"I trusted you. Heck! I was falling in love with you but you had to betray me like this. I don't like Susan, but at least she saw through you when I was blinded by your innocent attitude," Bryce said and pulled the papers out of the brown envelope.

"I can't be a husband to a murderer. Sign this," Bryce said taking Angela's silence to mean she was guilty.

"What about our baby?" Angela asked the only words that escaped her lips when she tried to speak.

She lowered her head as tears streamed down her face.

"You want to pin a bastard child on me?" Bryce questioned and Angela went silent. "Sign those papers now," he ordered.

"I need a pen," Angela said and her voice was trembling.

Bryce felt the pain in her voice and it made his heart ache but he was determined not be to overcome by his emotions. He pulled a pen from his pocket and offered it to Angela.

"What is the point of staying married to a man who thinks I am a murderer and calls our child a bastard," Angela thought as her hands trembled while she tried to sign.

Bryce stared at her and eventually took his eyes off her. He knew if he kept staring at her, he was going to stop her from signing and he would yield to the part of him that wanted to believe her. The part of him that wanted to hug her and tell her, everything was going to be okay.

Angela gave the documents back to Bryce without saying a word. Bryce accepted the document from her hand and he went through it. He saw Angela's signature on the paper and immediately felt he had moved too fast but he kicked the thought behind him.

"Goodbye Angela," Bryce said and knocked on the bars.

An officer opened the gate and Bryce was soon out. He had divorced Angela. He thought he would be happy freeing himself from a murderer but he rather felt a part of him was gone.

Outside, Bryce sat in the back seat of the car and rested his head on the backrest with his eyes closed. All that filled his mind was memories of his good time with Angela.

Back in the cell, Angela was in tears and also recalling her good time with Bryce. Now she and Bryce are over. No one from her family had been able to visit her and she was okay, but Bryce saying goodbye to her hurt her so badly. She immediately felt abandoned and the pain she felt was one she could not bear. She started feeling dizzy and she passed out on the cell floor.
