Chapter 121: Do We Have the Right Person?
Chapter 121: Do We Have the Right Person?
"Good morning Mr Moore, my name is Detective Darren. I am with the police headquarters," Darren introduced.
"Detective Darren, I am listening," Bryce said thinking the officer was calling to inform him that his mother's body had been released for burial.
"Mr Anderson would like to meet you for a very important discussion. It has to do with his daughter, your wife," Darren said and Bryce frowned.
Aside from his family and the chief, no one else knew he was Angela's husband. If this detective knows Angela is his wife, does it mean the chief recorded this? Bryce thought, but he calmed himself, knowing an investigation was ongoing so anything linked to Angela could be recorded.
"What is the discussion about?" Bryce asked.
"I am afraid this is not a conversation to be done on the phone. He is willing to meet you anywhere convenient for you," Darren said.
"I don't want to meet him," Bryce said recalling the report Ian shared with him which proved that Angela was guilty of the crime she was accused of.
"Mr Moore, I can't force you to meet up with Mr Anderson but it will greatly help if you meet him. There is something you need to know. It will explain many things happening now," Darren tried to convince him.
"Okay, fine," Bryce said wondering what Mr Anderson wanted to tell him. "I will send you a location for a meet-up at 5 p.m. today," he said.
"Thank you, Mr Moore, I shall inform him," Darren said and ended the call.
Once the call ended, Bryce's phone rang again and he checked who was calling. It was his father. He answered and brought the phone to his ears.
"Bryce, what is wrong with you?" Devon yelled from the other end of the call.
"You will have to be more specific, Dad," Bryce said on the call.
"Your engagement party comes off this Saturday, and not only did you have a media published an apology to you saying your relationship with Susan is false, but decided to take pictures of yourself having fun with call girls and splash it all over social media. What is wrong with you? Are you now bent on destroying the family name?" he questioned angrily.
"What are you talking about?" Bryce questioned surprised by what his father was saying.
"Have you seen the latest trending news on social media?" Devon asked.
"No, I haven't and I don't care what is trending at this moment," Bryce replied and got down from the bed.
"You will care Bryce when I cut you off from the family. I will take everything away from you and throw you out to the street. Trust me, I will make a public announcement denouncing you as my son," Devon said angrily and ended the call.
Bryce went online to check what Devon was talking about.
"Gosh!" he said staring at the images of himself surrounded by three girls in a bar.
He dialled Martin's number and waited for him to answer.
"Martin, I believe your eyes are functioning," Bryce said on the call as soon as it was connected.
"Yes, Sir," Martin replied knowing exactly what Bryce was talking about.
"Deal with it before you lose your position," Bryce said and ended the call.
Bryce got out of bed and headed for the bathroom. After brushing his teeth, he entered the shower room and stood under the shower. He allowed the water to flow down his body. When he shut his eyes, images of Angela flashed in his mind.
"Angela, why? I thought you were different. How could you?" Bryce questioned opening his eyes. "What wrong did my sister and mum do to you for you to take their life like that?" he asked, his voice a little above a whisper.
He stayed in the shower for a while and stepped out of it pushing everything about Angela behind him. He cared for her and loved her. He is not sure when he fell in love with her but his father was right about one thing, there was no way he could be with a murderer. With the evidence he has now, he is ready to move on.
"Our marriage ends today, Angela," Bryce said dressing up.
He picked up his phone and dialled his lawyer's number.
"Hello, I want you to start the process for a divorce. I want to divorce my wife, Angela Anderson," Bryce said on the call and ended the call after the lawyer acknowledged.
After the call, Bryce sent the location of his club to Darren. He was going to meet Mr Anderson there to find out what he wanted to tell him. He quickly dressed up and left home for the office after popping a painkiller into his mouth. The soup Josephine brought to him was left sitting on the table inside his room.
"Martin, keep your eye on the lookout. I don't want such news about me circulating on social media again," Bryce said with his gaze glued to his phone.
"Yes, sir," Martin replied and briefly stared at Bryce from the rearview mirror.
Bryce looked different and sounded different. The old cold Bryce was back but this time colder than previous.
The car drove into the company and Bryce stepped out of the car heading for his office. In his office, he called Susan's office extension but there was no answer. He called Bernard next and he answered.
"Bernard, I want you to prepare a termination letter for Angela Anderson. Once you are done with that, I want a vacancy opened for a new secretary. Also, tell Susan and Eva to come and see me once they arrive," Bryce said on the call and ended it without waiting for an answer.
The day slowly passed and Bryce buried himself with work. There was a knock on his door and Susan walked in seductively dressed.
"You want to see me," Susan said as she walked towards Bryce's desk swaying her hips from side to side.
Bryce raised his head briefly to stare at her before returning his gaze to the file on his desk.
"Susan, why are you now coming to work?" Bryce questioned, his voice very cold and his gaze glued to the files he was working on.
"I was out shopping," Susan replied and she pressed her behind on the edge of Bryce's desk standing next to his seat.
"Susan, sit down on the chair before I make you," Bryce said coldly and Susan moved away from the place and sat on the chair placed in front of Bryce's desk. She realized Bryce sounded different.
"First, get this into you thick stubborn skull, I am not interested in marrying any woman. Secondly, as the HR of the company, you carry the image of the company everywhere you go. So I don't want to see you dressed like a slut in the office again. Thirdly, you will sign an undertaken which will be on your file for coming to work late all through this week," Bryce said.
"Bryce, what is wrong with you?" Susan questioned surprised.
"Address me by my first name one more time and you will not like me," Bryce said sternly, his gaze very dangerous. "Now get out of my office and go change your clothes before I have your contract terminated," he warned.
"But," Susan protested a bit surprised by Bryce's anger.
"Get out, Susan," Bryce yelled and Susan jumped out of her seat.
She left Bryce's office immediately wondering what happened to him. Once outside Bryce's office, she dialled Devon's number while waiting for the elevator to come up.
Back in Bryce’s office, Bryce saw his father's name flash on his phone screen and he knew Susan reported him to his father. He ignored the call and rather left for Don Entertainment for a meeting.
The meeting at Don Entertainment ended at 4: 30 p.m. and he decided to return to the office. Recalling the details of the report from Ian, he decided he was not going to meet up with Mr Anderson again. He was not ready to listen to anything he wanted to tell him.
Bryce arrived at the office at 5: 10 p.m. and headed for his office. He stared briefly at the door of the office which was opposite his. It used to be Angela's office. He entered his office and got behind his desk. He picked up his phone to call Martin when he saw the breaking news alert. He unlocked his screen and tapped on it.
Breaking News, we have another death recorded on the street. The victim was identified as Mr Anderson. Mr Anderson is the father of Angela Anderson. To remind you of who Angela Anderson is, she is the woman accused of murdering two members of the Moore family and is currently in police custody. Information reaching us is that the victim received a bullet to the head killing him instantly. The police believe the killer must be a sniper. The late Mrs Patricia Moore had a bullet to the head and so was the late Ms Elena Moore. This brings us to a very important question, do we have the right person in police custody? Because it appears the killer is still out there on the streets. Another question on the minds of citizens is, are we safe?
Bryce read the news and was shocked. He was supposed to meet Mr Anderson at 5 p.m., at his club. That is the location he gave to Darren to be shared with Mr Anderson and from the news, Mr Anderson was shot dead just across the street, directly opposite his club.
