Chapter 51 A Mysterious Giant Shadow the Size of a Blue Whale
Chapter 51 A Mysterious Giant Shadow the Size of a Blue Whale
The corpses of merfolk floated on the sea, their mournful cries and wails no longer heard.
Only the aroma of roasted meat lingered on the water's surface as Su An quietly put down the hammer.
"Did we win?" Professor Mans asked, still shaken, as he embraced the surviving crew members.
They cheered and sang praises of Su'an's merits.
Only Su An remained armed, gazing thoughtfully into the water.
"Warning! Warning! The sonar system indicates a large object is approaching; it appears to be larger than the Moniach!"
Professor Mans roared, "How many more are there?! How does Norton have so many men?!"
Su An gently patted his shoulder: "It's alright, I can kill them even if they come."
"First mate! Move in a zigzag pattern!" Su An shouted.
The first mate spun the helm rapidly, and the Moniach splashed up a wave nearly ten meters high, drawing a "Z" shape on the water's surface with a sharp zigzag.
"Second mate! Explosives!" Su An shouted.
The second mate immediately opened the underwater hatch at the stern, and ten underwater bombs were released in succession. Due to the zigzag course, they were arranged in three rows: three in the front, four in the middle, and three in the back, with a spacing of about ten meters between them.
The underwater bombs' miniature engines activated, keeping them at a depth of five to ten meters while slowly approaching the approaching target. On the second mate's sonar monitor, the underwater bombs formed an arc approximately 30 meters wide, like a trap waiting for the creature.
"Beautiful!" Everyone on the deck shouted to Su An.
This was a perfectly executed hunting formation commanded by Su An. This thing would either immediately slow down and evade, or it would have to make close contact with those bombs. Although the underwater bombs weren't equipped with warheads made using alchemical technology, their explosive power was astonishing. The scientists in the execution department were all madmen; when designing these underwater bombs, they desperately hoped that a single bomb could penetrate the armor of a Los Angeles-class aircraft carrier…
The magazine, still shrouded in smoke, landed at Mans's feet. Mans dropped his sniper rifle and ran back into the cabin, shoving aside the second mate. He pressed his face against the sonar monitor, his eyes glued to the flashing lights and the increasingly large, fish-like object drawing ever closer.
"Extremely close, only 50 meters left!" the second mate shouted. "This thing really has no intelligence; it's charging straight at us without slowing down!"
The thing was moving at a speed close to that of the Moniach, about 50 knots. The underwater bombs were suspended in the water like fireflies floating in the air. In that case, a distance of 50 meters would be covered in just two or three seconds, a distance that could be covered by a sudden stop.
Imagine a speeding car on an icy road at night—could it possibly stop? Obviously not, and the friction of water is hardly higher than that of ice. Mans was overjoyed and clenched his fist tightly.
"It...it stopped!" The second mate's face turned ashen.
Just as they were all straining their ears to hear the thunderous explosions, the massive sonar display abruptly stopped on the suspended underwater bombs.
This wasn't like braking; there was no gliding. Instead, it came to a complete stop with a "whoosh," the relative speed becoming zero. The second mate's head was buzzing, as he was working on a terrifying arithmetic problem: what kind of force could bring these underwater bombs to a sudden halt?
"Detonate the bomb directly?" The second mate looked up at the imposing Su An.
Su An nodded. "Detonate it?"
"Whether it will work or not, you should all look at the screen first..." an intern who came over said cautiously.
They looked up together and saw that five of the original ten dots on the screen had disappeared, and the enormous object was swimming around the remaining dots like a small whale curiously playing with a group of jellyfish. The second mate was completely dumbfounded. He looked up at another screen, which showed that the signals for the five underwater bombs had completely disappeared.
"Only three left..." Mans whispered. In that instant, two more points of light disappeared.
"Impossible! The bomb didn't explode, it didn't rise, and it didn't sink. It just vanished!" The second mate tugged at his hair. He was Russian, a staunch materialist who absolutely did not believe in supernatural phenomena and held an absolutely scientific attitude towards dragons. At this moment, he couldn't make a judgment. He couldn't possibly say that the bomb had suddenly entered another dimension, could he?
The last point of light disappeared before the second mate could detonate the bomb.
Mans slowly raised his head. "I actually have a very materialistic explanation... Your bombs were eaten... Sonar shows that the behemoth stopped right in front of those suspended underwater bombs."
"Eaten...it...?" The second mate felt a tremendous sense of powerlessness. Although it didn't achieve the initial design goals, it was still a weapon powerful enough to penetrate tank armor. How could it have been eaten like candy?
"Will it taste good?" the second mate suddenly asked, a completely nonsensical question.
Mans knew that there was no point in discussing the diet of dragons with his colleague and comrade-in-arms at this moment. He thought quickly, but the crew began to scream. A huge, majestic shadow was gradually expanding on the surface of the water. The thing was rising.
"It's coming! It's coming out!" Mans cried out!
What was chasing them was no longer a thin line of water, but a spine as hard as metal that rose to the surface. It was vaguely visible that each part of the spine was as rugged as a reef. Its long tail swung at high speed, but did not make any splash. A huge mouth was half submerged in the water, and what was exposed on the surface was the ferocious upper jaw. Its shape was indistinct, and only two withered yellow hooked teeth could be seen.
Immediately afterwards, in the crimson flames, a hole was torn open in the pile of merman corpses.
A huge claw emerged from the hole.
It's hard to imagine how much power that claw had; with a gentle slap, the scorched corpses shattered instantly.
A colossal creature rose from the water; it was a black dragon swaying its long tail in the sea.
Its golden pupils resembled giant candles, and its decaying body was clad in ancient armor, layers upon layers connected by bronze chains. An endless dragon's might pressed into the cockpit, capable of destroying the spirit of a normal human. The king within the corpse roared silently, its long fangs as clear as crystal.
"That's a Corpse Guardian!" Mans finally understood. "It's an alchemical creature made from dragon bones, a Corpse Guardian that never dies and never tires. It's the largest and most dangerous guardian of this dragon tomb."
Can we win? This question lingered in everyone's mind.
The sheer size and imposing presence of the Corpse Guardian nearly crushed the confidence of the Moniah's crew. Even the A-rank members watching on the screen in Kassel clenched their fists in tension. Even through the simple screen, the oppressive aura of the dragon-shaped Corpse Guardian was palpable to every witness.
"Will they win?" Even Chu Zihang, who had always believed in Su An's strength, began to worry at this moment.
"We will win"
Su An smiled and leaped forward, swinging his hammer as he charged towards the Corpse Guardian.
His figure was like an ant compared to the corpse guard, but this ant was exceptionally fierce.
The dragon-shaped corpse guard opened its golden eyes, its killing intent surging.
