Chapter 59 An's Little Classroom
Chapter 59 An's Little Classroom
The next day, Anastasia woke up at Montague Manor.
She first quickly looked around to assess her surroundings, then walked to the window and looked outside.
At dawn, Montague Estate has a pastoral feel, with lush green grass, swaying trees, and beautiful swans playing in the lake.
Not long after, there was a knock on the door, followed by voices.
"Miss, you may proceed to the dining room now," the housekeeper said respectfully from outside the door.
Anastasia straightened her clothes, pushed open the door to the suite, and stepped out. The housekeeper outside the door nodded in greeting, looking very proper.
Led by the housekeeper, Anastasia walked through corridors and staircases to the dining room, where the three men of the Montague family were already seated at the table.
Mike didn't look well-rested, and he yawned frequently.
Last night, the father and son, having cleared up years of misunderstanding, had a long talk by candlelight and eventually slept side by side.
Iniz Blatter looked relieved; the reconciliation between the Montague father and son was great news for him.
Bill Montagu, seated at the head of the table, smiled and gestured for Anastasia to sit down. He looked to be in good spirits, a stark contrast to the listless Mike.
It was another enjoyable meal for both host and guests. A wonderful day begins with a wonderful breakfast, except for Mike, who was yawning constantly.
After breakfast, Mike mustered his energy and accompanied Anastasia on a stroll around the estate.
The Montague Manor covers an area measured in acres, and has several gardens, each with a different theme and design concept.
Strolling through the garden, which is designed to be a courtyard throughout, feels like stepping into a palace from a bygone era. Every few steps you can see a mansion, and the sculptures scattered throughout are all the work of famous artists.
As she walked, Anastasia saw a single-story building, the only single-story building she saw in the courtyard besides the pavilion.
"What is it used for?" Anastasia asked.
"The stables," Mike said. "There's also an open area behind them for horse racing."
Iniz Blatter mentioned yesterday that the estate has a special stable for raising fine horses, but he didn't expect the stable to be built so grandly.
"Want to go in and take a look?" Mike asked. "If you see one you like, I can give you one."
"No thanks." Anastasia waved her hand in refusal. She didn't have the extra money to raise a fine horse, nor did she want to increase her workload for a horse.
"Then forget it." Mike didn't insist. He was only interested in horse racing and had no interest in raising horses.
The two continued strolling through the palatial courtyard. After walking for a short while, Mike suddenly stopped and found a place to sit down in a covered walkway.
"Uncle Iniz just suggested I move back to the manor, what do you think?" Mike asked.
"This is your family matter," Anastasia said. "Whether you move or not is entirely up to you. If you want to move, then move!"
Mike was torn between moving or not moving.
On the one hand, Mike longs to move back to the plantation and repair his relationship with his father, but on the other hand, he is reluctant to give up his freedom outside.
On the other hand, Montague was in crisis at the time. The father and son lived together on the estate, which provided them with mutual support, but also gave others the opportunity to take them all down.
For these two reasons, Mike was unable to make a decision, unsure whether to move back to the estate or continue living in the riverside apartment.
"Anatasia, do you think there will be more attacks?"
Mike knew very well that attacks would continue, and might even be more dangerous than the previous two.
"Of course. Gamblers never know when to quit while they're ahead, especially gamblers who are blinded by losses. They'll just keep lingering at the table and eventually lose everything."
Anastasia wasn't sure when the next attack would happen, but she was certain it would most likely be the last.
According to the rules of Gloria Poker, Lonkinswain has already gone all in, and the five community cards have been dealt. Now it's time for Lonkinswain, who went all in, to reveal his hole cards.
"Anastasia, what do you think their trump card is?" Mike continued. "Will I still be their target?"
"I'm not sure, I don't know," Anastasia said. "Whatever their hand, we can only play along. I'm more worried about the people in the shadows, worried that someone might interfere with the game."
No one knows what the mysterious woman in white is thinking, nor does anyone know if she will make another move.
Anastasia hates uncertainty because it creates too many variables.
Upon hearing this, Mike thought for a moment and then said, "I'll decide whether to move back after I see Lopez tonight."
"I suggest you talk to Mr. Montagu more," Anastasia said. "Mr. Montagu is a business tycoon with unique insights into people and things."
Compared to Leon Lopez, Mike Montagu, who had just graduated, was a greenhorn, probably being sold out while still helping the seller count the money.
"Dad already told me last night, otherwise what do you think we were talking about?" Mike said. "Two grown men holding hands and pouring their hearts out to each other? It's so cheesy."
"It seems that Mr. Montague's rebellious phase is over, which is truly a cause for celebration," Anastasia said in a strange tone.
At that moment, Mike seemed to suddenly realize something. He looked at Anastasia very seriously and asked, "You probably wouldn't like older men, right?"
Clearly, Mike was reminded of Anastasia's boastful words, which is why he asked this question.
"I must admit, Mr. Bill Montagu is a very charming and mature man—"
Anastasia was interrupted by Mike before she could finish speaking.
"Mature? Mr. Bill Montague is certainly mature; he's old enough to be your father!"
It wasn't that Mike wanted to stop his middle-aged father from starting a second spring in his life, but rather that he couldn't accept a young stepmother like Anastasia.
Those who knew the situation would think it was an old man having a burst of youthful exuberance, but those who didn't would think it was a young woman leading her father!
"Dear Mike, what do you think there is in the Swan Lake at the manor?" Anastasia asked softly.
"Of course there are swans in Swan Lake!" Mike said. "You don't mean there are fish in the lake, do you? That's not funny at all."
"Swans are beautiful, large water birds. It is said that a swan will only have one mate in its lifetime, so swans are regarded by humans as a symbol of faithful love," Anastasia said.
"You mean the very charming, mature man, Mr. Bill Montague, who is as faithful as a swan, and who will die alone like a swan that has lost its mate?" Mike said, having also heard of the symbolism of the swan.
"Of course not," Anastasia said. "Swans may seem beautiful and loyal to their mates, but they can also have affairs."
Mike Montagu stood there dumbfounded. This was something he had never heard of before. Could swans really have affairs?
"Most of the swans observed by people are during their migration season. Swans during migration will naturally not abandon their mates in order to ensure their survival."
Anastasia paused for a moment, then continued, "Who knows what will happen once we get to our new home!"
"What you're saying is really—" Mike thought for a while before saying, "very special, extremely special."
At this moment, Mike Montagu was certain, absolutely certain, and absolutely certain that if Anastasia wasn't a Transcendent, she would have been killed the moment she stepped outside.
"While unwavering love may be a myth, swans are extremely responsible for their offspring," Anastasia said. "To protect their chicks, swans fear no opponent; they will fight to the death."
Many birds instinctively protect their chicks when they encounter predators. When the strength of the enemy is overwhelming, most birds will give up, but swans will not.
Upon hearing this, Mike Montagu was certain, absolutely certain, and absolutely certain that Anastasia had not been killed so far, and there were other reasons besides the fact that she was a Beyonder.
"My dear Mike, I'm not sure if Mr. Montague will remarry in the future, but I believe his love for you will never change."
After saying that, Anastasia turned and left, leaving Mike alone in the flower-lined covered walkway.
"By the way, I suggest you go catch up on some sleep."
Anastasia's voice drifted into the corridor and into Mike's ears.
"To go to see Leon Lopez while yawning is disrespectful to both of us; it's incredibly rude."
