Chapter 78
Chapter 78
Derek’s POV
After the execution, it seemed that everything had gone back to normal.
Whoever threatened Erika and the pack had been eradicated. Erika wasn't bothered by nightmares anymore.
Everything went as planned. Things were getting better and better.
However, two days after the execution. One of the executors came back to the pack.
“Is he dead?” I asked. I thought that he came back to report Baron’s death.
“No, alpha.” The executor lowered his head and said with a trembling voice.
“What do you mean?” I narrowed my eyes and looked at him.
“He is about to die. But he said that he wanted to tell you something about Luna before he died. I am not sure what he was up to. So I come back alone and report it to you.”
I turned around and stood in front of the window, thinking about it.
Baron wouldn't tell me what I wanted. I was very sure about it. He wouldn’t even do it when he was being tortured. How could he possibly change his mind simply because he was about to die?
Did he realize his mistakes and regret what he did? Did he want to confess?
I sneered. What was I thinking about?
But it was about Erika. At least I needed to see him.
I turned around and ordered the executor,“I'll go see him.”
Kent drove us to the forest and we walked to the depths of the forest.
Following the executor, we finally spotted Baron after many twists and turns.
I didn’t go close because he smelt bad. I looked at him up and down and frowned in disgust.
He lay beneath a tree in a dirty mess with his eyes closed and didn't move the slightest. Sure, he was about to die. Everyone could tell that.
e executor walked forward and kicked Baron on his head.
“Alpha is here. What do you want to say?”
Only then did he open his eyes slowly and looked around. But he was still lying. His head was the only part he could move now.
“There is a cure that can allow Erika to talk again.” Baron said in a low and harsh voice. But I heard what he said unmistakably. He said that there was a cure!
My eyes widened. Although Erika never made it clear, I could tell from her eyes how much she wanted to speak again. Now that she had Alex and Bentley, she longed to communicate with them freely.
“But I won’t tell you what it is. You’ll never know!” Baron added with a slight smile. It was a triumphant smile and I knew that he was not lying.
When I wanted to ask him about it, he closed his eyes and blacked out.
I knew it! He wouldn’t make it easy for us.
I raised my hand and sent electricity to him, trying to wake him up. He couldn’t die now!
His body convulsed because of the electricity, but that was all.
But after several attempts, he did not react.
“Alpha... He is dead.” Kent came over and stopped me.
I looked at the blackened body that was smoking and finally accepted it.
He died without telling me what the cure was. I didn’t even know what kind of poison he used.
Although Baron had been tortured and now got killed, I still felt so bad now. I couldn’t get what I wanted after days of interrogation. But he had achieved his goal and brought me pain by revealing to me the existence of a cure.
Suddenly, I lifted a leg and kicked the tree beside me, venting my anger. I was so close to the truth!
After taking a deep breath, I calmed down. Sure, Baron was not the only one who knew poisons. I would find out what the cure was sooner or later.
I looked ahead. There was a wolf hidden somewhere near us. It might want to eat the dead body, but it didn’t dare to come over because of our presence.
I sneered at the dead body and then commanded, “Come back to the pack. Our friend needs to eat a meal.”
At my words, Kent and the executors all looked around and found the timid eyes of the wolf.
We turned around and left in the opposite direction. Soon the sounds of tearing and chewing sounded behind us.
At the pack house.
Erika was eating lunch alone. Angel had left the pack and I was busy with the interrogation these days.
I took a bath first and then sat beside Erika.
“Where have you been?” She pursed her lips and complained.
“Baron is dead. From now on, there is nothing that can scare you," I said as I held her in my arms and rested my chin on her head.
Her body stiffened in my arms for a second. Then she recovered from it and sat up straight. She looked at me in the eyes and mind-linked me.
I'm not scared.
“Yes, I know. You are a brave girl,” I said with a smile, trying my best to stay calm.
Now that I had known there was a possibility for a cure, I couldn't help imagining what it would be like if she could speak. But I made up my mind that I wouldn't let her know it until I found the cure. I didn’t want her hope to be dashed immediately after she thought that there was hope, as Baron did to me.
