Chapter 69
Chapter 69
Erika’s POV
I shook my head at him.
"What's wrong, Lucy?" The middle-aged man asked worriedly.
I pointed at myself, then pointed at the painting on the wall, and shook my head.
"You're not Lucy?" The middle-aged man asked.
I shook my head again.
Immediately there was a look of blatant disappointment on his face.
I knew it probably wasn't wise to reveal my identity to them now. I was their enemy. But I was desperate to know everything, and I knew instinctively that I might have something to do with the pack, especially the woman in this painting.
"Then who are you? Why are you here?" The young man asked. He couldn't tell that I was the wolf he'd just hurt.
I was silent. There was no paper or pen here. My phone was long gone too, and all I could do was make a gesture to suggest that I couldn't talk.
"You can't talk?" The middle-aged man finally understood what I meant after I made many gestures.
I shook my head.
He looked at me sympathetically and asked for a pen and paper.
We stood and waited. Now and then the middle-aged man looked at me as if he was still making sure I wasn't the Lucy he had mentioned.
Somehow, I became curious about this woman, which was rare. Although she looked the same age as me, she conjured up my mother, a person I knew little about. Honestly, I doubted if my mother really existed when I was a child because I had known little of parental love since I was a baby. If Charles played the role of a father, I had no idea what a mother was like.Charles never mentioned her to me. I didn't see the lack of a mother as a big problem either.
Soon, a man rushed in. However, he did not bring any paper or pen. Instead, he ran all the way in front of the middle-aged man and shouted, “Alpha Alex, Emergency. There is a breach in our defenses."
"What? How is that possible?" Alex exclaimed.
Hearing this, I tried to feel Derek's presence. I was so excited to find that I could feel Derek's presence.
"I’m safe and sound. Don't worry." I mind-linked him.
"Are you hurt? How did they get you?” Derek answered me immediately.
"I'm fine. I can't get out yet. Don't worry, just give me some time. I have to figure some things out."
"What do you mean? Do you want to get some information first? I don't agree. It's too dangerous. You can't take that risk. I'll be right there to save you." Derek replied.
“Derek, I’m serious. I have something important to figure out!” I tried to persuade him again.
“Save that, Erika. I can’t allow you to risk your life. You can’t change my mind. I have brought my best warriors here and we have already destroyed their defenses. We don’t need any more information. We’ll teach the Lumiere Pack a lesson,” He replied.
I frowned. I didn’t expect it. It seemed that war was inevitable tonight. Time was running out and there was no way I could convince him.
"It's true, there's a group of people at the door telling us to hand over Erika in half an hour or they'll attack us tonight!"
Derek was just outside the pack. Although I wouldn’t let myself get injured, the fact that Derek was close to me gave me a sense of security.
"What? What Erika?" Alex asked, confused. "You caught an intruder today, didn't you? Is she Erika?"
Yes, the intruder was Erika, but the question was how to let Alex know that I was Erika.
"Erika seems to be the Luna of the Blood Moon pack. Their Alpha is out there," the young man replied.
"Since she dared to invade, she must pay the price. We haven't interrogated her yet. How can we let her go so easily? Prepare for battle."
Alex said without hesitation.
I frowned. Things were getting difficult. How should I stop the battle now that Derek didn’t listen to me while I couldn’t communicate with Alex?
Well, just then the man who had gone to get a pen and paper came back. Thank Goddess!
I waved the paper at Alex to get his attention, picked up the pen, and started writing.
He turned to me and immediately softened.
"We have an emergency. I have to go over there and sort it out. No need to write. I don't care who you were before." Then he turned back to the young man, "Bentley, take her for a paternity test!"
A paternity test? I looked at Bentley in surprise.
Did they also suspect that Lucy and I might be related?
"OK. Be careful, Dad. I'll come back to support you when it's done!" Bentley said.
"OK!"
Of course, I also wanted to know the results, but Derek and Alex... Would they really get into a battle?
However, I got not chance to hesitate. The man known as Bentley took my hand and walked out of the room towards a car with me. Paternity testing between werewolves was extremely quick and did not require the use of complex instruments. Hopefully, a paternal test could stop things from reaching the point of no return.
