Chapter 54

Derek’s POV

I didn’t know what time it was now. When I was sleepy, I closed my eyes and took a rest, but I didn’t allow myself to fall asleep. I forced myself to stay awake. Luckily, Erika was in a steady condition for the rest of the night. She didn’t have nightmares again, nor did she go wild. But I still couldn’t feel her presence through mate bond. I looked at the window and the light shone in through the curtain. I guessed it was four or five o’clock. Finally, the next day dawned.

I yawned and decided that I could sleep for an hour. So I lay down and closed my eyes.

I didn’t fall sound asleep because I still thought about why I couldn’t feel her presence. Soon my phone rang and it was time to get up.

Erika was still asleep. I sat up and looked at the carpet. There were so many daggers on it that it would be very difficult to walk on it without stepping on the daggers. I sighed and used my gift. I raised my hands, sent electricity to the daggers on the carpet, and waved my hands. The next second, the daggers all flew to one corner of the room and piled up.

I walked to the bathroom and gave a call to Carl. I asked him to come over with two warriors, clean the mess, and accompany Erika before I came back.

He came here with the two warriors after fifteen minutes. The warriors waited downstairs and I asked Carl to enter the bedroom. His jaw dropped when he entered the bedroom.

“Luna did it when she was in a nightmare. Keep it a secret because I haven’t figured out the reason. After she wakes up, see if you can mind-link her and tell me the result.” I commanded.

“Yes, Alpha.” he nodded.

Then I went to work. I summoned an emergency meeting with Gerald, Kent, and Steven. Kent should’ve been whipped today. Now the punishment thing could wait. Steven didn’t belong to my pack, but he knew Erika’s health condition better than the doctors in my pack. I asked him to rush over as soon as possible.

Kent and Gerald had entered the meeting room while Steven was still on the road. They both looked at me in confusion. I glanced at them and asked them what exactly happened last night before I went there to interrogate James.

Kent told me how they arrived in the forest, hid somewhere, and waited for James, how they expelled a rogue couple that stayed in the forest and didn’t leave…

“Wait, what couple?” I frowned and asked.

“A couple of rogues. They went under the tree and began to make out. They stayed there and refused to leave, so I asked them to go away,” Kent answered.

At this moment, someone knocked on the door.

It was Steven. He just rushed over from the hospital.

“Derek, what’s it? Why did you ask me to come over in such a hurry?” Steven asked as he walked to the seat.

I glanced at them and told them what happened last night.

Silence fell. They looked completely befuddled.

“What? I mean, how is that possible?” Kent spread his hands and asked in disbelief.

“I know it’s hard to believe. But it did happen. Carl is in the pack house now. I asked him to accompany Erika.”

“Can you be more specific and describes how it feels?” Steven asked with a serious tone as he took out his laptop.

“I can’t feel her presence, as if my mate never exists or has already…” I paused and tried to find a proper word, but it was hard to find one. So I uttered the word “died”.

“Can other members of your pack mind-link her?” he asked.

I checked my phone and found a message from Carl just now. “Alpha, Luna is awake and she can mind-link me.”

I clenched my fists and held back the urge to throw a temper. Fine, I might be the only person who couldn’t mind-link her.

“Yes, Carl can mind-link her.”

They looked at me with their eyes wide open and no one said anything.

“How is that possible?” Kent asked.

“Could it be the two rogues? When I asked them to go away, I discovered that they smelt strange. It’s hard to describe. But nothing happened to Kent and me. It’s strange,” Gerald said.

“That’s because you two don’t have a mate,” Steven said.

“Steven, do you have any idea?” I asked him.

“Erika is poisoned. I’ve heard of this kind of poison before. It’s called bondsever and it’s very rare. Only a very few people knew how to make it. This kind of poison can sever the mate bond between the mates and it only works on mates. I’ll explain how it works. On the first stage, Luna was poisoned and got sleepy. On the second stage, she would fall into a deep sleep and her presence could not be felt by the mate. Common people would be in a coma for more than seven days, but Luna was special. Then, your wolf would think that your mate has died and that the mate bond had been severed,” Steven said as he leaned back in his seat and adjusted his glasses.

“What should be done?” I asked him directly.

“Well, I need to check more essays and get information. As I said, it’s a rare poison and I don’t know much about it. But I think the effects won’t last for more than 24 hours on Erika. But I’m sure that it won’t do any harm to Luna’s health,” Steven answered.

“I see. It must be related to Richard and I’ll regard it as a provocation.” I pulled a long face. It must have something to do with Richard and the mysterious force behind him. Poisons like wolfsbane would be readily available in Richard’s pack, but not rare poisons.

“What should we do next?” Gerald asked. He and Kent were both furious. I saw that they couldn’t wait to teach Richard a lesson.

I looked at them and a rough plan flashed in my mind.
