Chapter 47

Erika’s POV

“Yes, that sounds like a good plan. But how do we get him?” Francis asked.

I texted, “If he still sticks to the Gamma duties as I did. He would go to the forest for rogue-hunting at ten o’clock every night.”

Francis and Derek both nodded.

Now that they had a rough plan, the talk ended soon. Derek still had another meeting with the pack leaders after fifteen minutes.

I yawned and looked at him pleadingly.

Can I go back to sleep? I mind-linked him.

“No,” he shook his head with a smirk.

I hate meetings! I mind-linked him and shot him a glare.

“But you’re the Luna. Technically, you also belong to the pack leaders. You have a great say over the pack affairs,” Derek answered.

I wonder where your pack traditions are. I mind-linked him with a fake smile on my face.

“Forget about the traditions. Ever since I found out that I was cheated by you, I realized what a waste it would be if you stayed at the pack house all day long and did nothing,” he said.

I don’t know you can be so sarcastic. I mind-linked him and rolled my eyes at him.

He burst out with a smile and we went to another meeting room.

It was the room where Derek had meetings with his pack leaders. We went into the room and there was a long black desk with many chairs. He walked to the end of the desk, pulled up the chair, and sat down. I also sat beside him.

Carl, Gerald, and Kent came in after a while. They were a little surprised at my presence.

Derek cleared his throat and began to speak, “Get used to it. I’m going to announce Erika as the Luna of the pack as soon as possible and she’ll be part of the pack leaders. She’ll attend the meetings as we do.”

Carl and Gerald nodded. But Kent seemed to have a problem with it. His face darkened and he looked disgruntled.

“Do you have a problem with it?” Derek asked.

“I’m sorry, Alpha. Although we kept it from the pack members, we all knew where Luna’s health problems came from. If she hadn’t escaped from the pack, nothing would have happened. I have no problem with her being the Luna since she’s your mate, but I don’t think she can take part in our pack affairs since she is not loyal to our pack. By the way, you haven’t punished anyone so far, not even Angel. It is untypical of you and it makes me doubt if your decision is blinded by your feelings for Luna.” Carl had been tugging at Kent’s sleeves, trying to stop him, but Kent just rattled it off. It seemed that Kent had been unsatisfied with me for a long time.

Derek’s face darkened. He began to drum the table with his fingers impatiently. I knew that if they weren’t in a meeting and if not for the desk between them, a fight would be inevitable. Alphas didn’t like advice, let alone such blunt criticism. Actually, I was also a little mad at his accusations. I indeed attempted to escape, but I never did anything against the pack. The words Kent used were too strong.

Derek said with a serious tone, “What Erika did was between me and her. She didn’t mean to betray the pack. In addition, Richard caught Erika just to threaten me. That’s why I don’t punish Erika for her escape. She had already been tortured by Richard harshly. She had been unconscious for three days and we all know that. Angel needs to be punished, but in an unusual way. You’ll know it later.”

I lifted my eyes and looked at him in surprise. I thought that Angel wouldn’t be punished. But he said that she would still be punished in an unusual way. What did that mean?

Derek paused for a second, glanced around the pack leaders, and continued with a commanding tone, “Kent, I didn’t plan to punish you. But you’ll be punished for your improper words. 50 whips after finishing your task.”

“Yes. Alpha, I’m sorry for my rudeness.” Kent nodded and seemed very regretful. He bared his neck to show submission. He sat back in his seat and the meeting officially began. Derek told them his doubts about Richard and assigned the tasks. Kent and Gerald were responsible for going to the forest and getting James when he was rogue-hunting.

I can go with them. The forest is big and they don’t know where James goes rogue-hunting. I mind-linked them.

Kent and Gerald both lowered their heads and said nothing. I immediately realized that they didn’t trust me. They suspected that I might take the opportunity and escape. I turned to Derek. He didn’t say anything, either.

OK. It was understandable. I deserved it.

Just as I was about to give up, Derek began to speak, “You can go with them, but only after you are announced as the Luna of the pack and you swear to the Moon Goddess that you won’t escape again.”

OK. I mind-linked them without hesitation. We had already had sex and had become mates. It was time for me to say goodbye to the past. I would swear to the Moon Goddess, if by doing so I could win their trust again.

Kent and Gerald also nodded.

So the announcement became the priority. Derek decided to announce me as Luna as soon as possible.

The date for the announcement had been decided. It would be held tomorrow night. Carl was in charge of it. At that time, a ceremony would be held and then Derek would make a speech to all the pack members and announce that I was Luna of the pack. After the announcement, I would swear to the Moon Goddess in front of Derek and all the pack leaders that I wouldn’t escape again. From then on, I would take responsibility as the Luna of the pack.
