From Gamma to Luna

Chapter 26

Chapter 26

Erika’s POV

I narrowed my eyes. As they approached, I recognized that it was Richard. But he was only twenty-three years old and he would be the alpha next year. Was Charles dead? Did his enemy kill him or did Richard challenge him? I had so many questions on my mind.

Richard walked over and greeted Derek. Derek didn’t seem surprised at all. I looked at him in confusion and he signaled me to calm down. I tried my best to calm down because I knew last time the visit was ruined by me. I couldn’t ruin it again. But all I was thinking about was Charles on my way back to the pack house. It was not that I had a deep feeling for him, but he was the one who saved me when I was almost killed. He brought me up and I wouldn't have survived without him.

And the most alarming thing was that no one ever told me about it. Orsen didn’t tell me about it. Even Derek didn’t let me know it. He could’ve told me about it this morning and he didn’t. If not for the meeting today, probably I would never get to know what happened to Charles. I guessed I had become unimportant and I didn’t need to know so many things.

What did I do that night? I had a good chance to get wolfsbane and pretended to be poisoned. Then I could escape. Why did I change my mind? What a fool I was!

I went upstairs and thought about what to do. There was still a week before Blood Day. I still had a chance.

The first thing was to confirm what happened to Charles. I calmed down and sent Orsen a message. “Why didn’t Charles come today?”

As expected, I didn’t get replied. I understood that Orsen was busy with the meeting and he had no time to reply to me. It felt so bad that I couldn’t do anything about it except wait.

I used to be important to the former pack. Whatever happened, I summoned my daggers and I was not afraid of anything. I was the one who stood up when an emergency happened and people would turn to me for help without hesitation. But ever since I became the Luna, my life had changed so much.

I was tired of waiting. I changed my clothes and went to the meeting room. It was on the second floor so I summoned my claws and climbed to the second floor. I climbed near the window and fixed myself to the wall. It had been one hour since they came here for a meeting. I guessed they would soon have a break.

Finally, I heard that they would have a break. I climbed into the room next to the meeting room, went out of the room, and went to the corner of the corridor.

I texted Orsen to meet me there.

Orsen came over quickly. "What are you doing?" He texted and showed me the phone

"What happened to Charles? Why didn’t he come today?"

"That’s a long story."

"Is he dead?" I didn’t want to waste time, so I cut into the cheese.

Orsen bit his lips and averted his gaze. My heart sank at his reaction. Charles must have been killed.

"Who killed him?" I didn’t think he would suddenly get ill and pass away. He was not even fifty years old.

"Richard challenged him," Orsen said after a pause.

I felt a chill down my spine. Richard could become the Alpha the next year. He didn't even want to wait for one year and he killed his father! What a heartless beast!

"Why did he do so?" I was so confused.

"Honestly, I don’t know. No one knows why Richard did so except himself." Orsen shook his head.

"And why didn’t anyone tell me about it? He brought me up and I had the right to know it." I questioned him and was on the edge of freaking out.

"I'm sorry, I have to leave now." Orsen lowered his head, apologized, and left.

I stiffened and stood there motionless. Yes, I also needed to leave. It was simply wrong for me to stay with Derek and his pack. I lost my mind that night.

Derek’s POV

Erika’s face changed when she recognized Richard. The way she looked at me made me feel bad. They kept his death a secret and even I didn't know it until late at night last night. So I didn’t tell her and I forgot about it. After all, it was about her former pack and had nothing to do with us. She wouldn't be mad at me for this reason, would she?

While Alpha Richard was giving a speech, I checked my phone frequently. We all set our phones on mute mode so I had to check messages in case I might miss Erika’s message. I thought that she might ask me about it, but no message came in.

“It’s not a big deal. She’s just too shocked. She won’t make a fuss over it. There is no reason for her to care about Charles so much. Charles didn't even give a damn when I took Erika away.” I comforted myself and concentrated on the stupid meeting.

Richard looked like a smart guy, but he was not. I got a lot of information during the meeting. I knew how many warriors and weapons they got. I also dug up some information about their future plan for security. After the meeting, I made a document and sent it to Francis. He would be so excited to see it.

When I came back to the house, Erika was eating dinner in the dining room.

Her face shone when she saw me come in. She didn’t get mad at me. I was overthinking. I strode toward her and held her in my arms.
