CEO's Dilemma

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

ASHER'S POV

I park in the driveway at the Heritage Empire premises and walk into the lobby totally aware of the commotion my presence is causing. I'm not any ordinary Attorney in my country, I'm actually the best and I take after my father who's now an Attorney General. Politicians detests me because I don't compromise when it comes to exposing their evil deeds. I had my first major case when I was twenty four, I had just started working in my father's law-firm and he entrusted me with a political case. The former Minister of Finance had a bad attitude of embezzling state funds and investing in other countries. He was sued by my very own father and he entrusted me with the case.

I can still remember how worked up I was throughout that case, but with the help of some IT experts and legal duty colleagues, I aced it. I provided all the evidence against him and now his greedy ass is somewhere in the Central prison paying for his sins. There's a bunch of government petty thieves I have set straight and I am not going to stop anytime soon.

The moment I ask for the way to Ace's office, the cashier immediately directs me without hesitation. As I walk to the elevator, I can hear people chatting and asking each other questions in hushed voices. It's not strange to see that I have this kind of effect on them because whenever I step into a firm or office, it signals danger but that's not the case here, I just want Ace and I to have a cool man to man conversation.

It's because of him that I'm not taking any legal action against Sophia right now. She is his fiancé and he is also a very powerful man in this country and I respect him a lot, that's why I'm here to ask him very nicely to tell Sophia to stop sending threats to Luna else I will lose my temper and things will get real messy for her. When I arrive at the fifteenth floor, I'm immediately greeted by a smiling young woman whom I presume should be Ace's secretary.

"Attorney Asher, Mr. Ace said to bring you in"

"Good then"

It's a good thing they already made a few relevant phone calls. I wouldn't want to bust him up. The young Blondie leads me into Ace's office where I meet him seated on his office chair, typing away on his laptop.

I don't hate Ace, I swear I don't. As children of the most powerful and famous men in the country, we always happened to attend the same prestigious schools but for some odd reasons, Ace and I have never been friends.

We have been classmates since kindergarten and throughout elementary school, we always topped the class, including Kyle. We had to separate classes in high school because we had different career paths to follow. I started focusing on law, Ace on business and Kyle on technology. Even though I'm not friends with them, I very much admire them. They both run the most powerful Enterprises in the nation at such young ages just the way I do with my father's law firm. If we had to set our prides aside and become good friends, it would be a blast.

Like I said before, I don't hate Ace. I am actually just jealous of him. I'm jealous of the fact that Luna loves him and not me. That's what's making me feel reluctant to go on with my plans of making Luna my woman. I know that she has feelings for someone else, that's why right now I don't want to burden her with mine.

What am I even saying I can't control my emotions around her.

Ugh!

Asher snap it out.

"You can leave now Miranda" Ace instructs.

"Thank you Mr. Ace" She exits the office and I walk further into it. It's quite an appeasing sight and I love the way the transparent glass walls give him a great view of the city beneath. Just like my office.

"Asher, you are welcome." He says extending his hand for a handshake.

"Thank you" We both shake hands

"Please make yourself comfortable"

"Thank you" I gently make myself comfortable on one of the white sofas and place my phone, wallet and car keys on the transparent glass table.

"What can I offer you? Wine, whiskey, beer?"

"It's fine Ace, you don't have to worry. This will be very brief"

"Well, I insist" He says walking to his wine bar. "No guest of mine comes into my office and leaves without sharing at least a glass of wine or whiskey with me, so wine or whiskey? Or would you rather have beer?"

"You're still stubborn" I say nodding my head.

"I'm glad you figured it out"

"Wine it is then"

"Cool" He takes out a bottle of Screaming Eagle Sauvignon Blanc and I let out a tiny smile.

This man sure has got taste.

"Here" He gives me a glass filled with wine and we both cheer and sip. "This means you prefer wine to whiskey"

"Nope, whiskey is my preference, just that I've got a court hearing in about two hours time, I can't afford to get tipsy"

"Oh, I see. So whose ass are you setting on hot coals this time around, if I may ask?"

"Ferdinand Bradfords"

"Oh... it's the rape case"

"Yes, it is"

"I hope you send that overly pompous ass of his to prison. His crimes are too much"

"I don't have plans of doing otherwise" I says sipping more wine from my glass. I can feel Ace's burning gaze on me.

"You didn't just come here for us to share a glass of wine, did you?" He asks, looking at it quietly and I let out a tiny smile.

Smart ass.

"Of course not"

"So what brings the Almighty Attorney to my office"

"It's about the girls"

"The girls, you mean Sophia and Luna?"

"Yeah"

"What about them?" He asks with a raised brow.

"Did you know that Sophia has been sending threat messages to Luna?" I ask taking a more comfortable posture on the sofa and he pauses. He looks at me long and hard and when it hits hi, he blinks and stands up.

"What?"

"You heard me"

"Luna hasn't mentioned that to me"

"Me neither, my sister, Alora just happened to mention it today during breakfast"

"Why would Sophia even do that?" He asks aghast.

"Ace, I'm not taking this issue to court already because of the respect I have for you. I don't know how you are going to do it, but I need you to bring Sophia back to her senses else I will rain hard on her. You know how apocalyptic things will get if I get on her matter"

"Asher, I swear I had no idea about this whole issue. You very well know how much I love and care about Luna. I will make sure Sophia stops all this madness."

"That will be good then" I set the glass on the table, pick up my belongings and sit up from the sofa. I smoothen my perfectly ironed tuxedo and turn to look at Ace. "Also, I'm only refraining myself from making a move on Luna not because she is carrying your child but because she is in love with you and she hopes for a future with you and I respect that. So Ace, right you have the girl and this is your opportunity to get her if you really love her the way you claim to do. I'm going to lie low throughout this pregnancy and this wall be your only chance to take Luna and if you fail, I will care less about those feelings she has for you and make her my woman and you will never be welcomed in her life again"

"Why are you even giving me this chance?"

"First, because you make Luna happy and her happiness is all I ever want and Second, everyone deserves a chance, so this is yours. It's either you Ace it or you lose it". I shove my left hand in my left trouser pocket and majestically walk towards the door.

"Asher" Ace calls and I stop on my tracks without turning to look at him. "Thank you for the heads up" I silently nod my head as I open the door and walk out of his office.

If Ace knows what is good for him, he had better not mess this up for himself because the moment Luna becomes my woman, no man, I repeat, no man will ever have a chance with her.

Not even the most eligible bachelor in the country.
