Chapter 111: Lucas Will You Marry Me?

Chapter 111: Lucas Will You Marry Me?

Andrea swiftly departed from the hotel, her chauffeur drove the car through the streets until they reached the bar where Lucas Anderson worked as a bartender. She remained in the car for a short while before finally stepping out.

The bar exuded a welcoming atmosphere, popular among the local community. The patrons were well-dressed, and Andrea noted that the women were tastefully attired, not overly revealing.

Straining to hear over the lively sounds emanating from inside, Andrea entered the bar to find a band performing energetically, and a couple dancing exuberantly on the floor. The infectious laughter and cheerful ambiance gradually lifted Andrea's spirits, dispelling her earlier gloom as she found herself smiling.

Approaching her, a man offered, "Hello Miss, would you like a drink?"

Andrea examined his face and frowned, sensing his ulterior motives without needing further investigation.

"No, I'm not here for a drink," Andrea replied, surprising the man with her response.

Puzzled, the man asked, "If not for a drink, then why are you here?"

He couldn't comprehend someone visiting a bar without the intention to imbibe.

"I'm here to see him," Andrea said, indicating Lucas Anderson attending to customers at the counter with a smile.

The man's face contorted in a puzzled expression as he scratched his head, his thoughts inscrutable to Andrea, but clearly not favorable.

Upon noticing Andrea, Lucas Anderson momentarily paused before murmuring to his colleague and then swiftly making his way over to her. Amidst the din of the bar, they had to speak loudly to communicate, and Lucas gestured for Andrea to follow him outside. He understood that the matter prompting her visit was not suitable for public discussion.

As Andrea and Lucas exited the bar together, Andrea's gaze fell upon the plaque adorning the doorpost. Her expression flickered between a smile, sadness, and then sorrow.

"You're the owner of this bar?" Andrea inquired, though she already suspected the answer, wanting confirmation from Lucas himself.

"Yes, I named it Pete so I wouldn't miss him as much," Lucas Anderson replied with a chuckle, aware of the whimsical reason he had given.

A frown creased his brow when he observed Andrea's reaction. "Andrea, is everything okay?" he asked, curious about her sudden change in demeanor.

With a rueful sigh, Andrea responded despondently, "Since you left, Pete stopped eating, pining for you every day. He became ill and is now in a coma."

Shock widened Lucas Anderson's eyes as he processed Andrea's words.

His chest tightened, heart aching, and panic rising, he gasped, "We need to get to the airport immediately."

Observing Lucas's extreme concern, Andrea was momentarily stunned before rolling her eyes at what she perceived as his exaggerated reaction.

Lucas's lips twitched, wondering if Andrea was being truthful.

"We need to talk, Lucas," Andrea said solemnly.

Taken aback by Andrea's swiftly shifting moods, Lucas agreed readily. Surveying the bustling night scene outside the bar, he realized it wasn't the right setting for a serious conversation. Taking the lead, he began to walk, with Andrea following suit.

The chauffeur who had brought Andrea watched in disbelief as she walked away, seemingly forgetting his presence. Concerned she might be in danger, he started the car and followed at a distance.

As Lucas and Andrea walked side by side in silence, a car's headlights trailing behind them caught their attention, prompting them to stop and turn around simultaneously.

Remembering the chauffeur, Andrea approached the car, and the driver promptly stepped out.

"You can head back with the car; I'll call you when needed," Andrea dismissed him, about to turn away. The chauffeur, alarmed, cautioned, "Mrs. Singers, you shouldn't trust the men around here. They're hooligans, criminals, and scammers. It's not safe to associate with them."

Angrily, Andrea retorted, "Shut up!"

The chauffeur clamped his lips shut, surprised by her blunt rejection of his well-intentioned advice.

With no desire to engage further, Andrea turned away from the chauffeur and walked back.

Although Lucas Anderson heard what the chauffeur said, he didn't comment on it. After they walked for five minutes, Lucas brought Andrea to a street bench under a tree, and they both sat down. The night was illuminated by the glow of the full moon in the sky.

"Andrea, what is it you want to discuss with me?" Lucas finally asked, unable to contain his curiosity after sitting together in silence for the past three minutes.

Startled out of her daze, Andrea blurted out, "Lucas, will you marry me?"

Shock washed over Lucas's face before he gave Andrea a sidelong glance.

Realizing her mistake, Andrea took a deep breath and corrected herself, "Pete thinks you are his father. No matter how hard I try to explain it to him, he feels like I don't want him to live with his father. Lucas, my son holds a grudge against me because of you."

Lucas fell silent, knowing that he bore some responsibility for Pete's misguided beliefs. After a moment, he took a deep breath and inquired, "How is the search for my twin brother going?"

Andrea's expression turned helpless as she responded, "We haven't been able to find him."

Lucas fell silent, aware that his efforts to locate Valentine Anderson had been hampered by the lack of support from the organization.

"Lucas, would you consider living with me as husband and wife? You can leave when your brother returns," Andrea asked nervously.
