Chapter 76: Mrs. Anderson Called
Since Lucas Anderson showed up at her wedding, Andrea's interest in the search team's results waned. "We must find the rescuers and reward them generously, as well as compensate the victim's family," she stated, then returned her focus to the papers in her hands.
Tony sensed Andrea's disinterest and his expression soured. A single look conveyed that she didn't care about the missing victim.
Unable to resist any longer, Tony playfully remarked, "Andrea, what if the man you're living with isn't Valentine Anderson?"
Surprised, Andrea looked up and smiled at Tony, assuming he was joking. "Tony, that's absurd. Stop teasing," she responded.
Accepting Andrea's response, Tony abandoned the idea of persuading her further. He stood up and exited Andrea's office.
As Andrea left her office for the day, it was already 10 pm. She got into her car and drove home. Arriving at her mansion, her phone began to ring.
She glanced at the phone's screen and saw that it was a call from Mrs. Anderson.
"Hello, Mom," Andrea said into the phone's receiver.
"Andrea, can you come to the house tomorrow?" Mrs. Anderson's voice came from the phone's speaker.
Andrea pondered her schedule for the next day before responding, "Sure, I can drop by."
"Don't tell your husband," Mrs. Anderson's voice sounded a bit anxious.
Andrea's brow furrowed in contemplation before she replied, "Um..."
"Andrea, promise me you won't tell your husband," Mrs. Anderson reiterated seriously, causing Andrea to feel uneasy.
"I won't," Andrea assured her. Mrs. Anderson exhaled from the other end of the call.
After hanging up, Andrea walked into the house, wondering why Mrs. Anderson didn't want her husband to know about her visit.
"Mommy!" Pete called out joyfully and ran over to embrace his mother.
A smile appeared on Andrea's face as she picked him up and asked, "Pete, did you have fun today?"
Pete's eyes widened happily as he narrated, "Mommy, Dad took me to the zoo. I saw lots of monkeys and an elephant. They were very cute."
Realizing that Lucas wasn't in the living room, Andrea turned to Pete and asked, "Have you had dinner?"
Pete shook his head, "Daddy's in the kitchen preparing dinner for us."
Andrea wasn't surprised; when she returned to Vegas Valentine Anderson prepared a meal for her.
She headed towards the kitchen and, leaning on the doorway, watched Lucas expertly cook. The apron he wore didn't diminish his charm, and his skill with the utensils was almost artistic.
Unable to take her gaze off him, she admired his work until he finally spoke, "How long are you going to stand there?"
"Until you're done cooking," Andrea replied with a cheeky smile, feeling a bit bashful.
Lucas turned, grinning, "Dinner will be ready in a few minutes. Go change, and come join us."
Following his suggestion, Andrea left and returned after changing. The family of three gathered at the dining table.
"So tasty! Mmm... sweet," Pete praised, biting into the fried chicken.
Curious, Andrea also tasted the dishes and was stunned by the quality. She looked at Lucas with a shocked expression.
"Why are you looking at me? Because I'm too handsome?" Lucas joked.
He was the one who taught his twin brother Valentine how to cook.
Andrea praised, "My husband is an excellent cook. After this, I won't be able to enjoy anyone else's cooking."
Lucas shrugged playfully, "As a stay-at-home dad, I'll cook for you all day if you can provide for us."
Pete's eyes lit up, "Dad, will you stay at home and play with me?"
"You have school, but when you come back, I'll teach you to cook and play piano," Lucas said with a doting smile, patting Pete's head.
Andrea watched them and felt she hadn't been there enough for Pete over the past five years.
After dinner, Andrea and Lucas returned to their room. She turned to Lucas, who was looking through his wardrobe, and asked, "Val, have you visited your mom recently?"
Without turning, Lucas replied, "Yes, a few days ago. Why do you ask?"
"Are you two fighting?" she probed.
"No, why?" Lucas turned to face her, puzzled.
Andrea wanted to mention Mrs. Anderson's call, but instead said, "Just asking. I'm off to my study."
After she left, Lucas's expression shifted to one of slyness. He glanced at Andrea's phone on the table, walked over, and picked it up. After a few seconds, he unlocked it.
"Mom, you really love Valentine so much that you can't accept me in his place. What a pity you can't change anything," Lucas mumbled with a fierce look in his eyes.
