The Lost Alpha Queen: Heaven and Hell Bound

Chapter 97

Chapter 97

Katrina's POV

I woke up in a strange room, the scent of unfamiliar sheets drifting around me. The bed was massive, soft, and I felt completely out of place.

The faint light filtering in through the window told me that it wasn’t quite morning yet, but I was wide awake.

My head ached, but not in the way I’d expected. I couldn’t remember how I ended up here or what had happened right before I blacked out.

All I remembered was talking to Adolphus, and the worry that clouded his usually strong features.

I shifted in the bed, the covers slipping off me as I swung my legs over the side. I barely noticed the size of the room, the plush carpet beneath my feet, or the intricate tapestries on the walls.

My mind was too busy racing, trying to piece together the bits and pieces of what had happened.

Was I sick? Had I been so ill that I lost consciousness? My hand instinctively went to my stomach, a thought nagging at me. Could something be wrong with me? Was I dying?

I stood up slowly, my body feeling heavier than I remembered, and walked toward the door. I pushed it open and stepped out into the hallway.

It was too quiet.

Where was everyone? Where was Adolphus? I longed to see him again, to talk to him, to make sure he was okay. I hadn’t seen him since I’d blacked out, and the absence of his comforting presence only made the unease in my chest grow.

I walked down the hallway, the echoes of my footsteps filling the space around me. I turned a corner and saw someone ahead, Adolphus’s mother, walking toward a door.

Her back was to me, and I decided this was as good a time as any to introduce myself properly.

I hadn’t had the chance to spend much time with her before, but I was eager to change that. I’d always wanted to connect with her, to see if she could accept me as Adolphus’s partner.

I followed her quietly, not wanting to disturb her, my smile already forming. But just as I was about to approach, I heard voices coming from the room. They were speaking in low tones, but the words were clear enough to make me freeze in my tracks.

"She is pregnant for Adolphus?" I heard a woman gasp, her voice high-pitched with surprise.

Pregnant? My heart skipped a beat.

Who was pregnant for Adolphus? I swallowed hard, uncertainty flooding my veins.

"The maid?" another voice asked, a touch of disbelief in their tone.

Adolphus’s mother chuckled. "Yes, the maid. She’s pregnant for him. It’s quite the scandal, isn’t it?"

I froze. Pregnant? I could feel my face heat up, my heart racing in confusion. Was this some kind of joke?

Before I could gather my thoughts, I turned around, intending to leave. But as soon as I moved, I bumped into something hard. No, someone.

Strong arms caught me before I could fall, and my breath hitched as I looked up, my gaze meeting none other than Adolphus’s eyes.

He looked at me with surprise and confusion, but the moment his eyes locked onto mine, his expression changed. He quickly stepped back, blocking my path when I tried to move around him.

"Katrina," he said, his voice low, almost demanding. "What did you hear?"
