Chapter 75
Chapter 75
Adolphus's POV
With my injured arm, I managed to get up and grabbed my sword, pointing it at the guard.
He was hell-bent on killing me, and it suddenly dawned on me that these people weren’t the Rogue Alpha’s guards but my brother’s.
He had laid an ambush for me, pretending to be helping me.
Had he already figured out that I had regained all my memories, except my name? If so, then this was far worse than I had imagined.
I charged at the guard, but he dodged swiftly, his movements calculated. He was skilled, but so was I. I swung my sword at him again, aiming for his midsection, but he parried it with ease.
Our blades clashed, sending sparks flying into the air. The fight was brutal, relentless, and neither of us seemed willing to back down.
With one final move, he disarmed me, sending my sword flying across the field.
My heart pounded. I was weaponless, bleeding, and alone.
The battlefield was littered with bodies, mine being the only one left standing against him.
I heard Katrina’s voice again, her desperation fueling my resolve. My flight instinct kicked in, but instead of running away, I ran toward him.
A memory flashed in my mind, a lesson from my father long ago. He had taught me how to fight without weapons, how to turn my own body into the deadliest tool.
The guard lunged at me, and I dropped to my knees at the last second, making him stumble forward in confusion.
That was my chance. I struck his groin with my elbow, sending a shockwave of pain through him. He faltered. I didn’t stop.
I followed up with a strike to his ankle joint, making him lose balance. Then, I slammed my fist into his abdomen and delivered a final blow to his throat.
He gasped, his eyes rolling back as he collapsed onto the blood-soaked ground, unconscious.
I stood there, panting heavily, my body aching, my arm still bleeding. But I couldn’t stop. Katrina needed me.
"Adolphus!" Her voice echoed in my head, sharp with urgency.
"Where are you?" I demanded, already running toward the sound of her voice in my mind.
"I don’t know! I’m fighting the Rogue Alpha. Adolphus, how do I use my powers? I can’t seem to gain control over them!"
I stopped abruptly, my mind racing. Katrina had transformed into that silver wolf the moment the statue ring slipped onto her finger. That meant the ring was the key.
"Where is your ring?" I asked.
"What?" she sounded confused.
"The statue ring."
"Still on my finger."
"Take it off and put it back on."
She hesitated but didn’t respond. I could only hope she was doing what I asked. I pushed myself harder, my legs burning as I ran through the darkened fortress grounds.
"Katrina, where are you?"
Silence.
My heart pounded harder.
"Katrina! Answer me!"
Still nothing.
A body suddenly rolled out from the entrance of a building ahead of me, making me skid to a halt. My stomach twisted into knots. I rushed inside, my breath ragged, my muscles tense, and then, I saw her.
Katrina stood in the middle of the room, but she was no longer human.
She was the silver wolf, her ethereal glow illuminating the dark chamber. Her powerful stance was unwavering, her eyes locked onto the lifeless body before her.
A wave of relief, disbelief, and admiration crashed over me all at once. She had done it. She had won.
The Rogue Alpha lay at her feet, dead.
