My Cruel Mate

Bonus Chapter 3

Bonus Chapter 3

Marcus

Parting with Selena felt like it was the end of a beautiful relationship I'd developed but I didn't complain, after all, if we love someone we set them free, and let them be happy. I willed myself to not go to her. I distracted myself with so much work. Halle had been trying her advances toward me but I rejected her, I couldn't be with her. That's how much I'd fallen for the priestess.

After work, my cousin, Garret and I went to a club. Soon, Marcos joined us and with him came many ladies, I couldn't even stand them touching me at this moment.

"You need to lighten up now, I get it, the witch was hot but as you said, you can't be together," Marcos said, he seemed to be enjoying himself and I wish I could as well but my heart was still in pain.

"Here," Garret gave me a shot. I took it and forced myself to laugh and enjoy with them, my fingers casually touching the neck chain around my neck.

After finishing my evening training, I was watching the moon when I felt the urge to go to her, my inner Lycan was losing it.

'What is it?'

'Let's go to her,' He growled and I sighed.

'We can't,'

'Now!' I felt a force push me at the back of my mind and darkness enveloped me.

I awoke in a strange room and without any clothes, the only thing covering me was a white sheet. I immediately caught her scent, we were in Selena's room.

'What did you do now?' I asked my Lycan,

'She was in trouble,'

'You could have just said so,' I hissed. He groaned and disappeared to the back of my mind. I tried standing up but my ribs hurt and I grunted in pain. The door soon opened and Selena entered the room. My eyes raked over her petite body, she was wearing a big black shirt, leaving her legs on display. Selena looked tired, but still the most beautiful woman in my eyes. I also noticed she had a cut on her bottom lip. We didn't speak, only stared at each other.

"Marcus, you're awake!" I heard a familiar voice, it was Ansley's. I smiled at her and she bent down to hug me.

"Thank you for your help out there,"

"What happened?"

"Vampires attacked us in this part of the territory and we had members training outside the barrier," She explained, glancing at Selena.

"You helped because they came in large numbers," She said with a smile.

We discussed a while longer about their unexpected attack. She got up and looked between us.

"I'll leave you two now. My prince was worried about me, that man doesn't trust my power at all," She murmured as she exited the room. Selena stood there awkwardly for a while,

"Are you alright?"

"Yes, thanks to you. I was distracted while helping my cousin and you jumped in to save us,"

"My Lycan,"

"And you too," She said quietly, sitting on the edge of the bed. She raised a white bowl in her hands and smiled.

"I made you soup,"

"Thanks," I sat straight to eat but she insisted on feeding me and I let her. After she was done feeding me, I grabbed her hand and interlocked our fingers.

"I miss you, Selena,"

"Don't, please," She grumbled, untangling our fingers and leaving the room.

I didn't want to be here in the morning when she awoke so I left before dawn.

Selena

Seeing him again after a month, fighting furiously for me made my heart ache knowing I couldn't be with him the way I wanted. I was a priestess, a high-ranking one for that matter and I had a duty to my coven.

We easily depleted the vampires that attacked but one snuck up on Marcus and broke his ribs but he managed to kill the attacker. My scream sounded through the forest when he fell to the ground. I rushed to him to check if he was alright, he lazily opened his eyes and caressed my cheek before closing them again. A few sorcerers who came to help dispose of the bodies helped me carry him to my house.

I tended to his injuries diligently as my prince and princess watched. I noticed how they gave each other knowing glances. They probably figured that we were in love.

"I'll call his brother so he doesn't worry," Princess Ansley sighed and her fiance followed. That man has always scared me even though we are cousins. I cleaned his body with a towel all while admiring him, he is easily the most handsome man indeed and I'm sure with a body like his, women swoon and hover over him like bees on honey. Sighing, I left to take a shower myself.

"He saved us," My cousin, Dana, said, entering the kitchen. I nodded as I continued making him his favorite soup.

"Why aren't you with him,"

"It's complicated,"

"It doesn't have to be," Princess Ansley entered too, sitting on the island. I made the girls fresh juice as they convinced me to be with the man of my dreams however, I couldn't leave the coven. Not when we were a target of vampires now.

"We are at war with vampires, there are so many of them!" I said and Ansley rolled her eyes.

"And we are powerful, we can deal with them. These attacks will be endless until we catch their king and execute them, you can't put a pause on your happiness until then," Princess Ansley said.

"look at me, I'm nineteen and have never been with a man, what if he realizes soon that he made a mistake and I'm not good enough for him,"

Dana shook her head and held my hand. "It seems to me what's stopping you is your fears and insecurities," I was scared to give my all to him. What if he decides that I wasn't good enough, I would have thrown away my position in the coven for nothing! I can't risk that, I'm not a risk taker.

"I can't do this," I said solemnly, leaving them and going upstairs. He was awake now. I was frozen and my heart was beating fast. I'm sure he could hear it. His eyes roamed my body with lust and it did something to me down there. I wanted to clear the awkwardness between us and thank the goddess, the princess entered when she did. She discussed it with Marcus before leaving.

"Are you alright?" He asked. I sat on the edge of the bed and fed him soup. His intense sexy eyes were focused on me and they made me shudder. He interlocked our fingers and I felt the sparks I used to feel. His inner beast chose me as his mate so the tingles will be there when we touch.

"I miss you," He whispered, bringing my hand to his lips for a kiss. I was getting lost in his smoldering gaze again and I had to stop it.

"Don't please," With that, I left the room. I leaned against the door and I heard him growl in frustration and anger. He continued to do that until I cast a calming spell. He easily fell asleep and I went to my guest bedroom to rest but sleep didn't come easy. Dana and Princess Ansley were right, I was just scared of the world out of this place.
