Chapter 620: Elaine Wants A Father
Chapter 620: Elaine Wants A Father
After a little more gentle coaxing, Bianca watched Elaine slip into a deep, peaceful sleep.
She tiptoed out of the bedroom, closing the door silently, and walked into the living room.
“Sophia, I just don’t get it,” Bianca said, her brow creased. “Why is Elaine so attached to Michael? They haven’t spent much time together. Don’t you think it’s… strange?”
Sophia let out a gentle, knowing sigh and gave a small nod. “I don’t get it either,” she admitted, crossing her arms as if bracing against an unseen chill.
“Maybe she just wants a father’s love so badly it doesn’t matter who it comes from.” Her voice lowered, and a shadow crossed her face. “But the truth is, he’s already a father. He has his own child, his own responsibilities. Instead of taking care of them, he’s hanging around me and Elaine like some aimless fly. What kind of man does that?”
Her eyes were a little red as she spoke, though she didn’t notice. She told herself she didn’t care anymore, but her emotions gave her away. She couldn’t understand why she still felt this way. Brenda’s words lit up the room, sending the tension soaring.
The actors and their agencies were on edge, feeling the pressure under the bright lights. Winning meant more than just a title; it came with huge rewards for them and the companies behind them.
What had started as a contest where many joined just for extra screen time had turned into a fierce battle. By the final round, the gap had closed. Several artists and agencies were nearly tied, pushing Rayan’s and Mylo’s teams to take bold risks.
"Rayan, our company’s future depends on you. Give it your all!"
"Mylo, if you win, I’ll give you forty percent of the company’s shares."
"Michael has gone too far this time." Bianca was finding it harder to defend him.
"Earlier, when he played with Elaine, I almost thought he was changing," Sophia said in a voice filled with emotion. "But then… he never fails to disappoint me. Never." Her nails dug into her palms, leaving small marks.
"Sophia, maybe this is just a misunderstanding?" Bianca moved closer, gently rubbing Sophia’s back. "Maybe there’s more to it than you think."
Sophia shook her head. "How could it be a misunderstanding, Bianca? The paternity test report clearly shows Michael was the one who requested it."
Bianca held her hand firmly. "But did you open it? Did you actually read what it says?"
Sophia hesitated, biting her lip. "No. Because if I opened it, that would mean I still care, right? And I… I don’t. Not anymore. I’ve let him go."
Her words only made Bianca more certain. "Not seeing the results doesn’t mean Michael has a child. It only proves he applied for the test. For all we know, the results could say something completely different," Bianca said firmly.
She wasn’t trying to hurt Sophia, but she wouldn’t let Michael fool her friend.
Sophia understood Bianca’s intentions, yet her mind kept circling the same question, if Michael hadn’t been involved with the child’s mother, why would he need a paternity test?
Child or no child, the truth still stung. Michael had been with another woman.
She bit her lip harder, trying to hide her feelings. She told herself she didn’t care, but the thought of Michael with someone else twisted her inside.
"It doesn't matter," Sophia said at last, straightening her shoulders as if brushing off a heavy weight. "Michael and I are over. There's no fixing it."
She took a deep breath. "Let’s just focus on the competition."
"Alright," Bianca replied, letting it go.
They spent the next thirty minutes discussing their plans before Bianca left Sophia’s house.
Once Bianca got into her car, she pulled out her phone and called Dave, telling him what she had learned.
"Michael needs to deal with his own mess," Dave said.
"Wait a minute, do you already know something?" Bianca asked, narrowing her eyes. His face gave nothing away, but she still felt there was more behind what he said.
"The problem between Michael and Sophia is theirs to fix," he replied. "We can’t fix it for them."
Bianca let it drop, at least for now. But inside, she was sure that there was more going on than he was willing to say. And if no one else stepped in, she would.
The day of the finals came before she knew it.
The grand stage of the Universal Actor Selection Competition shone under Edenfield’s bright lights, as if the stars had come down to join the event.
Every entertainment channel covered it live, while online chatter exploded across social media. Millions watched their screens, and new posts poured in one after another.
"Who will take the crown in this final showdown?"
"Exclusive interview: Mylo’s journey from unknown to rising star."
"Rayan dropped a new song before the competition and shot straight to the top of the new song chart."
"The Universal Actor Selection Competition is all about acting skills. With her consistent performances, Sophia is sure to take the title."
"Reese’s support rate is dropping, while Rayan and Mylo are pulling ahead for the first time..."
The internet lit up with heated discussions.
"How can Reese’s numbers be falling? Her fans won’t take this! Call your friends, get everyone voting, and let’s bring her back to the top!"
"Let’s be honest, this competition is about acting. Rayan might sing like an angel, but his acting couldn’t convince a cat to chase a mouse."
"That’s ridiculous. Sure, Sophia’s acting is flawless, but Rayan’s no amateur. He’s better than most of the guys here, even Nicolas can’t match him."
"Nicolas? Unpopular? Please. He’s my dream man. People just don’t see it."
In the center of the platform, every spotlight lit up. Brenda stood there, the picture of elegance in an evening gown, an emerald necklace glinting at her neck.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I now declare the finals open. The winner will be cast in Universal Pictures’ latest blockbuster and sign a contract with the studio. In addition, Universal Pictures will enter a strategic partnership with the winner’s agency.”
Brenda’s words lit up the room, sending the tension soaring.
