Chapter 582: Why The Rush?
Chapter 582: Why The Rush?
At that moment, Blake had already arrived at the restaurant to meet Bianca. Before leaving, he had changed into a beige suit that shimmered slightly. He looked fresh and full of energy. His suit cuffs had fine gold embroidery, and his black tie matched the design. The suit was Cherish’s latest style. He liked it a lot.
As soon as Bianca walked into the restaurant, she saw Blake. They looked at each other.
“Over here, Bianca!” he called, giving her a small smile.
The female waitresses quickly noticed him. They kept glancing at him, whispering to each other, and giggling.
“Wow, he’s so good-looking! Is he a celebrity?”
“I feel like I’ve seen him somewhere before… but I can’t remember where. He must have a girlfriend. Just look at her, she’s so pretty and classy.”
“Is there even a point in guessing? A man like him can’t be single. He’s so charming and stylish! Did you notice his suit? I saw it in a magazine. It’s Cherish’s latest design.”
“He’s just too good-looking! And that soft smile… he’s exactly the kind of man I’ve always dreamed of. And look at him pulling out her chair, that’s so sweet. He’s really romantic.”
“It’s been a while. You’re still as beautiful as ever,” Blake said as he sat down.
Bianca looked at him and felt something had changed about him, though she couldn’t tell what. Still, he looked as gentle and handsome as always.
She smiled softly and said, “Thank you. You look perfect too. By the way… how’s your rehab training? Are your legs doing better?”
Earlier, Bianca had noticed how naturally Blake pulled out the chair for her.
“Luckily, I’m recovering fast. I can walk like a normal person now. Just look at me, Bianca. Don’t I seem the same as before?” Blake said, standing up and stretching a little.
Bianca smiled softly. “I’m really happy for you.”
She felt a sense of relief, knowing he was doing well.
“Blake, I came here today because I wanted to talk about the promise I made.”
Just as Bianca was about to speak, Blake gently interrupted. He picked up the menu and handed it to her with a soft smile.
“No need to rush,” he said. “Go ahead and order first. Now that I’m back, we have plenty of time to talk. Let’s eat while we chat. Or are you in a hurry? You can at least have a meal with me.”
Bianca looked up at him and realized she had been rushing. After all, old friends needed time to catch up.
She smiled softly. “You’re right.”
Even though it had been a long time since they last met, being with him felt familiar. Blake still remembered her favorite dishes and ordered them all.
“I’m surprised you still remember,” Bianca said, her eyes full of warmth. Then, she ordered some of Blake’s favorite meals too.
“Of course, I remembered everything about you,” Blake said with a smile. But behind his smile, there was a trace of discomfort. He couldn’t forget about Dave.
Once the food arrived, they settled into an easy rhythm, enjoying both the meal and their conversation.
“The food’s really good, isn’t it?” Bianca said as she set her utensils down. She lifted her glass and smiled at Blake. “Welcome back. So, what’s next for you? Are you going back to show business?”
Blake clinked his glass with hers and gave a small, anxious smile. “Probably not. I’ve got other things to focus on now. You mentioned your promise earlier. Is something wrong? You seemed worried.”
Bianca looked at him and said softly, “Now that you’re back, we’re even. The promise is settled.”
Before Blake could say anything, Bianca cut him off.
“Just so we’re clear, we’re still friends. If you ever need anything, I’ll be there for you. No matter what.”
She made sure Blake understood. Their friendship was solid. But nothing more.
Blake fell silent for a moment, thinking about her words. He had expected this, but hearing her say it still hit him differently.
Just friends? Why the rush? Maybe Reese was right...
“You’re really not having second thoughts about this?” he stared at Bianca sharply.
Bianca nodded while her face looked serious. “Yes. I haven’t changed my mind. My heart belongs to Dave. I’ve always seen you as a close friend.”
She paused for a moment, then said, “I’m thankful for everything you’ve done for me. But we can’t stay stuck in the past. Dave has waited long enough. I won’t keep him waiting anymore.”
They both stopped eating. The silence between them grew heavy.
Bianca stayed quiet. She had said what she needed to say. She came here to end their promise, whether Blake accepted it or not.
After a long pause, Blake gave a small smile, though it carried a hint of sadness.
“If that’s what you’ve decided… then all I can do is wish you happiness.”
Blake raised his glass. “I wish you happiness in your marriage. Don’t forget to invite me to the wedding,” he said, his voice slightly bitter.
“Of course.” Bianca nodded. “You’ll always be my friend, so you have to be there. About my mother…”
Blake gave a strained smile. “I understand. I’ll tell your mother to cancel the engagement. I won’t be your fiancé anymore.”
“Thank you, Blake. I hope you find your own happiness.”
After they finished eating, Bianca left.
Blake stayed behind, sitting alone with his face looking serious and cold.
Reese’s report showed that Bianca and Dave had been together for a while. They had even announced their relationship publicly while Blake was still abroad. Their feelings for each other were clear.
But at that time, Blake was still her fiancé. To him, it felt like betrayal.
At first, he doubted it. But now, it was clear. Bianca had loved Dave for a long time. She had just been hiding it.
She didn’t keep her promise to him. So he wouldn’t give her what she wanted.
Blake stared out the window, clenching his teeth. His fingers curled so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
After leaving the restaurant, Bianca took a deep breath. She felt free, like a burden had been lifted from her.
She took out her phone and called Dave. Her voice sounded light and relieved. “Dave, it’s done. Everything’s settled.”
Dave’s voice was low but happy. “Where are you? I’ll come get you.”
Bianca smiled softly. “Okay. I’ll send you my location.”
Dave picked her up and brought her back to their apartment, feeling happy and excited.
