Accidentally Slept With The Ruthless Billionaire

Chapter 539: Do You Want Me To Step Down?

Chapter 539: Do You Want Me To Step Down?

Dave and Wyatt walked into the room.

“There you are,” Lucas said when he saw Dave. His face showed a flash of pity, but it quickly turned cold.

The memory of what happened was still fresh. His grandson had taken control of the Phoenix Alliance Group and gone against the Evans family. Lucas had been so angry, he coughed up blood and passed out for days. Thinking about it sent a chill through him.

Then he noticed the man behind Dave.

“Who is that?” he asked.

“You’ve never met him, but you know his name, Grandpa,” Dave said as he sat down by the bed.

“This is Wyatt Cooper. He works for me. You tried to have him killed.”

Lucas’s eyes suddenly narrowed. He looked at Wyatt in disbelief. He had thought Wyatt died in the plane crash.

So how was he standing here?

“You… You’re still alive?” Lucas asked in a trembling voice.

“I’m still alive,” Wyatt said with a calm smile that made it hard to guess what he was thinking.

“Wyatt didn’t just survive. He also brought you a gift.”

Right after Dave spoke, Wyatt walked up to him and placed a file bag in front of Lucas.

“What is this?” Lucas asked, frowning.

“It’s proof that Rupert planned the plane crash,” Dave said calmly.

Lucas’s face went pale. He looked at Dave in shock.

“You… How did you get this? Where did it come from?”

Dave gave a slight smile. “Wyatt is sharp. He noticed something was wrong and got off the plane early. That decision saved his life. He hid for several days and started digging. He found proof. Rupert got careless and left a trail.”

The truth was, Rupert had been careful. But Wyatt wasn’t just anyone. He used to lead a powerful group in the underworld. With his skills and connections, he found the evidence through hidden sources.

Lucas didn’t know about Wyatt’s skills or his connections. He just assumed Rupert had made a mistake.

He slowly clenched his hands, sat up straighter, and looked at Dave.

“You came here this late just to tell me this?”

“That’s not all. There’s something more important.”

Lucas’s brows drew together. “What is it?”

“To keep you from being fooled again.” Dave took a tablet from Wyatt and played a recording of Rupert.

After a bit of static, Rupert’s voice came through, speaking to Bianca. As the recording went on, Lucas’s face grew darker.

“Rupert, do you really think just pushing me out will be enough to beat Dave? You’re underestimating him.”

“It’s not me who’ll bring him down. It’s Lucas. I just have to sit back and enjoy the show.”

“My goal was to drive a wedge between Dave and Lucas by using you. And it worked. Their relationship is already cracking. Do you really think I want you dead? It’s Lucas who wants you gone. Once you're out of Edenfield, Dave will believe his grandfather was behind everything.”

“They’ll end up destroying each other. I’ll be the one left standing. The Evans Group should be mine. I’m Lucas’s son, why shouldn’t I inherit it? And yet, he gave it to Dave!”

“To me, Lucas’s getting old and confused. He should’ve stepped down and joined my mother in heaven. I want him gone. But Dave will take the blame for it. It’s the perfect plan to get rid of them both. Once they’re out of the way, the Evans Group will be all mine!”

Lucas felt those cruel words hit him like a cold wind. He couldn’t hold back a cough. Blood filled his mouth, and his chest burned with rage.

“This bastard!” Lucas shouted, his voice shaking with rage. His anger made him feel lightheaded. Dave quickly moved to hold him and worry was written all over his face.

“I’m fine. I’m not as fragile as Rupert thinks.” Lucas was shocked that Rupert actually hoped he would die. He couldn’t believe Rupert had the nerve to say those things.

But the most shocking part was when Rupert admitted he caused the plane crash.

“Were you also responsible for crashing the plane that Wyatt was boarding?”

“That’s correct. The Evans Group’s reach is limitless. No matter where he is, if we decide he must die, he will.”

Lucas froze in shock. He couldn’t believe how foolish Rupert was.

Wyatt’s evidence could still be denied. The Evans Group might have had a chance to cover it up.

But Rupert’s confession changed everything. No matter what Lucas did, he wouldn’t be able to clear Rupert’s name now.

If this got out to the media or their rivals, the Evans Group would collapse.

For the first time, Lucas looked really afraid. His hands shook as he turned to Dave.

“Do you have another copy of the recording? You can't keep it,” he said quickly.

This company was his entire life. He wouldn’t let Rupert ruin everything.

Dave had a calm smile on his face like he was in full control. “There’s one more thing I need to talk to you about,” he said.

“What is it?” Lucas asked, gripping the edge of the bed.

Dave looked straight at him. His eyes were sharp, and his lips curled slightly like he already knew how this would end. “If you agree to one condition, I’ll make sure no one ever sees that recording.”

Lucas spaced out for a second but quickly came back to his senses. He let out a small smile. For the first time, he felt old. The younger ones really were ahead now. He couldn’t keep up with Dave anymore.

Even though Dave made it sound like a choice, everyone knew the truth. If Lucas wanted to protect the Evans Group, he had no say. He had walked right into Dave’s trap and couldn’t get out of it now.

"Say it. What do you want? Do you want me to step down? Or are you here to get back at Rupert for what he did to you and your parents?" Lucas’s voice was flat. His eyes looked tired as he waited for Dave’s answer.

But Dave looked down, a slight smirk on his face. "It’s simple. I want Evans Group to stop going against Phoenix Alliance Group. And don’t hurt Bianca again.”

Lucas stared at him, surprised. "That’s all?"

"Yes. From now on, no more revenge. No more dirty games in the business. Phoenix Alliance Group and Evans Group will compete fairly. I’ll show you I can build something strong without using Evans Group."
