Chapter 520: You’re My Mentor
Chapter 520: You’re My Mentor
Wyatt kept some things to himself. He was scared Dave might ruin everything.
He didn’t want to be the one in charge. He only wanted to help from the background, quietly making things easier for Dave.
But now, he felt nervous. He knew things were getting hard.
Bianca noticed the worry in his eyes. She decided to push slightly. She talked gently, trying to draw the truth out of him.
“Hiding things won’t help,” she said. “You need to trust him.”
Wyatt’s tough mask quickly faded.
He remembered the past. If Dave hadn’t stepped in that night, when everything fell apart, he wouldn’t have survived.
He would’ve died back then.
“You’re right,” Wyatt said. “I should trust him.”
He finally spoke the truth about Skylar’s kidnapping.
He pretended to take a puff from a cigarette and let out a long sigh. It felt like a weight had been lifted.
Wyatt admitted everything.
The kidnapping. The secret deal.
He did it all to make Dave happy. To take the pressure off his shoulders.
He only wanted to help. He wanted Dave to live without carrying too much weight.
But Bianca’s reaction caught him off guard.
“So that’s why...” she said, looking at him with a hint of amusement in her eyes.
“Wyatt,” she said quietly. Her voice trembled with gratitude. “Thank you for everything you’ve done for us.”
She paused, then lowered her head.
“But… for me, it doesn’t matter whether I marry Dave or not.”
Outside, birds chirped, unaware of what was happening inside.
In the shadowed corner, Skylar stood still. Her fists clenched tight. Her nails dug into her skin.
Bianca spoke again. “What matters to me is that we’re honest and understand each other. Marriage doesn’t matter. If we love each other, that’s enough. No one can take that from us.”
She paused for a moment.
“I’ve always felt this way. But this is the first time I’ve said it out loud. I don’t need to explain it to Dave. He already knows.”
She looked at Wyatt.
“You probably don’t know our story. I once offered a big reward to find a boyfriend. Dave showed up, pretending to be poor. We went through a lot together. We fell in love.”
“I never cared about who he really was. Even when I found out he was the Evans heir, it didn’t change anything. I never wanted to rely on him. I just wanted to stand beside him.”
“The best kind of love is when both people are equal. When they support each other. Life is uncertain. We don’t know what will happen. That’s why marriage doesn’t matter to us. What matters is staying together and understanding each other.”
Bianca took a deep breath. Her face lit up with a silent joy.
“So, Wyatt, you don’t need to risk everything on this promise. It won’t hurt me. It won’t hurt him.”
Her words hit Wyatt hard. He finally saw how strong the bond between Bianca and Dave was. He never imagined their love could be that deep.
It was the kind of love most people couldn’t even begin to understand.
What Wyatt thought was a big problem turned out to be nothing to them.
Dave’s promise to Skylar didn’t stand in their way at all.
He realized he had misunderstood everything.
“Are you really serious?” Wyatt asked again. He was scared Bianca was just saying it to make him feel better.
Bianca looked at him with a serious face. She raised her hand high. “I swear I’m telling the truth.”
Then she squinted playfully and gave him a smile. “So, do you believe me now?”
Wyatt scratched his head. His face lit up. “Alright, I believe you. It’s great that you both feel this way. I acted too quickly. I’ll go say sorry to Dave right now.”
He knew he had to fix things. He had to own up to not trusting them and making decisions on his own.
As they walked away, Skylar stayed frozen. She couldn’t move. She just stood there, like her body forgot how to breathe.
She wished this was all just a bad dream. But the birds chirping outside told her it was real.
The truth hit her hard. Her anger faded. All that was left was deep, sharp pain that filled her chest and made it hard to breathe.
She couldn’t understand it.
Bianca really didn’t care about being Dave’s wife.
Even the wind felt too loud. The birds outside sounded like they were laughing at her.
Everything Skylar believed was broken apart. Then, her throat went dry. She couldn’t speak.
In the end, everything she did was just a way to fool herself. It wasn’t a victory. It was empty.
Suddenly, everything felt blurry.
She didn’t know what she was really after.
Was it about being Dave’s wife? Or was it about Dave himself?
Did she truly love him? Or did she only want the status that came with him?
For a moment, love felt like a puzzle she couldn’t solve.
Outside, a sparrow took off and disappeared into the open sky.
Skylar stumbled into her room and dropped beside the bed.
Her mind felt like a mess. She couldn’t even tell what she was thinking.
Old memories spun around her like a carousel.
One second she was crying. The next, she was laughing.
But no matter how her feelings shifted, she was wrapped in complete silence.
The silence was overwhelming to bear. She felt empty, like a shell with nothing inside.
The sparrow flew for a while, then landed on a nearby tree.
Dave’s eyes followed it—then saw Wyatt running toward him from afar.
“I didn’t think you’d come looking for me on your own,” Dave mumbled. His eyes showed a hint of frustration. He had waited a long time.
“Do you remember what you promised?” His voice held a mix of blame and longing as he looked at Wyatt.
Wyatt’s smile faded. He gave a nervous laugh. “Of course, I remember. I’m not that old yet. I promised I’d stick to it, and because of that, Skylar is still alive. I didn’t break my word.”
But his voice lost its strength. The truth was clear. He had made a mistake.
“I shouldn’t have hidden it from you. I should’ve never acted alone. It almost went terribly wrong.”
Dave gently placed a hand on Wyatt’s shoulder. “It’s not like you to admit fault. To me, you’re more than just someone who works under me. You’re my mentor. My guide. Let’s not let this happen again.”
To Dave, Wyatt was more than a mentor. He was a friend. In many ways, he was like a father. But neither of them said it out loud. They both understood it without words.
