Chapter 511: The Final Blow
Chapter 511: The Final Blow
Reece’s eyes were bloodshot as he clenched his fists.
“Skylar told me to meet her at an abandoned warehouse near the docks. But when I got there, it wasn’t her—it was a killer. If someone hadn’t saved me, her plan would’ve worked. No one would’ve known how cruel she really is.”
Lucas’s cane dropped to the floor. Reece’s words hit him hard. He stared at Skylar, stunned.
“Skylar… is this true? Tell me it’s not.”
Skylar was shaken by Lucas’s loud voice.
Faced with his question, she broke down in tears.
“No! It’s not like that!” she cried.
Skylar pointed accusingly at Reece as her voice trembled in anger. "You’re trying to frame me! What did Bianca give you? Or are you working with Dave to ruin me? What have I done to make you hate me so much?"
Dave shook his head. "You're incredibly stubborn. It seems you won’t admit the truth until it’s right in front of you."
He threw a pile of papers on the table. It was a chat between Skylar and the killer.
The pages were full of messages exchanged between Skylar and the killer.
"Cat got your tongue?" Dave taunted. "Did you think deleting the chat log from your phone would fix everything? The killer kept a copy on his phone. He was caught before he could erase it."
At that moment, Skylar realized the photo of Reece’s body might not have come from the killer after all. Dave had already obtained the killer’s phone.
Skylar realized she had no way out.
“Grandpa has a wide network of contacts. It wasn’t hard to find out who the killer really was. So stop pretending,” Dave said as he glared at her.
He then passed the chat records and a video to Lucas.
“This is the surveillance footage from the bar. It shows Skylar and Reece. Take a look for yourself, Grandpa.”
Lucas was utterly stunned. On the screen, Skylar and Reece were seen kissing passionately. She looked completely like a slut.
Skylar and Reece were still kissing as they walked into a messy room.
The moment the door shut, Lucas felt his heart tighten.
The truth became painfully clear. He had been completely fooled. It was both shocking and humiliating.
"I was such a fool..."
His voice trailed off, carried by the wind. He never imagined Skylar could be so shameless. She was nothing like the woman he thought he knew.
Furious and unable to control his rage, Lucas hurled the phone at Skylar, hitting her in the head.
"I'm so disappointed in you, Skylar!" His voice was filled with anger and pain.
Skylar instinctively covered her head with her hand, but the warm, sticky blood started to trickle through her fingers.
She shook her head wildly but her messy hair only made her appearance more chaotic.
"No! You’ve got it all wrong! He drugged me! Please, trust me! I’m innocent. It’s Reece who raped me! I only love Dave. You know that. How could I be with anyone else..."
Reece sneered. “Skylar, you filthy woman.”
He let out a loud, bitter laugh that echoed through the room.
“You really know how to play the victim. Still won’t admit what happened at the bar? Fine. Let me ask you this; did I drug you when we slept together in the garden at Evans Mansion? Did I force you?”
“What?” Lucas’s eyes widened in shock. Everyone around them fell silent.
Skylar’s affair with Reece was already shocking. But finding out they had done it inside Evans Mansion was a direct slap to Lucas’s face.
It was beyond shameless. They had no fear at all.
Lucas trembled out of rage. Hearing that they had slept together in his own home pushed him to his limit.
He shoved Franklin aside and pointed at Skylar angrily.
“You... You...”
He struggled to find the right words to say.
Then he stepped back wobbly and nearly lost his balance, swaying to one side.
At that moment, Bianca rushed to his side, worry written all over her face. “Are you okay? Do you need a doctor?”
Lucas looked up at her. His feelings were mixed. How could he possibly be okay?
He had almost pushed Dave into marrying Skylar.
The painful truth of how blind he had been hit him like a punch.
Skylar’s actions had embarrassed the Evans family in front of the entire upper class.
Lucas took a deep breath and calmed himself. He had to pull things together and stop this mess.
Just then, someone rushed over and whispered something urgently in his ear.
“Sir, I found out the truth. Skylar really did hire someone to kill Reece Barton. We also confirmed that the surveillance video is real. As for what happened at the mansion—”
“That’s enough. You can go now.” Lucas dismissed him instantly, feeling completely hopeless.
He had wished the evidence was wrong.
He wanted to believe the woman he picked as his granddaughter-in-law hadn’t cheated or tried to kill someone.
But the truth couldn’t be changed. What happened was real.
He looked at Skylar with clear disappointment and snapped, “I gave you so many years of my life, and this is what you’ve done! You broke my trust and hurt me badly. I never should’ve believed in you. Skylar, what happened to you? How can I face your grandfather when I’m gone?”
The pain was too much to bear.
Lucas felt like he had failed his old friend.
He didn’t guide his friend’s granddaughter the right way. He wasn’t a good grandfather to Dave either.
Now, it felt too late to fix anything.
Because of his close bond with her late grandfather, and since Skylar was the only granddaughter, Lucas couldn’t bring himself to be cruel to her despite everything she had done.
After struggling with his feelings, he finally made a choice to let her go.
If it had been anyone else, he would’ve made sure they went to prison.
“Forget it.” Lucas turned away and shut his eyes, not wanting to see her face anymore.
“I won’t send you to jail, out of respect for your grandfather. But don’t ever come near me again. Leave Edenfield and don’t come back.”
Skylar was stunned. She looked at him in a daze, trying to understand what he was really thinking.
Lucas stood with his back to her, hands behind him.
He didn’t want to see her face anymore.
Skylar felt the weight of his words sank in.
There was no way to undo what had happened.
The truth was out. She had lost the chance to marry Dave.
It felt both ridiculous and heartbreaking.
