Chapter 466: Lucas Retaliates

Skylar leaned forward with a gentle smile and began to massage Lucas.

He was so moved that he started to feel sorry for her. After a moment, he asked, "Have you talked to Dave lately? How are things going at the company? Is there any progress between you two?"

Before he could finish, tears fell from Skylar’s eyes. She lowered her head and cried softly.

Lucas looked at her, shocked. "Why are you crying? What’s wrong?"

Skylar kept sobbing, and Lucas became even more worried.

Lucas quickly set down his tea and held her hand. He asked, clearly worried, "Who did this to you? Just tell me, and I’ll handle it."

His words made Skylar pause. She looked up, eyes full of tears. "Dave fired me. It hurts more because he’s under the spell of that woman who wants to bring me down. I can take the pain, but..."

Tears welled up in her eyes again.

"But what? Tell me," Lucas said and his face now showed deep concern.

"Someone posted a video from the Evans Group’s celebration. It’s all over the internet. Now, everyone knows Dave left me and gave up his spot in the family for Bianca. The reports even call me a shrew. Mr. Evans, you know me. That’s not who I am. I just panicked. Now my name is ruined. I don’t think I’m fit to marry Dave anymore. Maybe I should leave. I can’t stay here anymore."

Skylar tried to leave, but Lucas grabbed her hand and stopped her. "What are you saying? This is your home. You’re not going anywhere."

He already knew about the video since it involved the Evans Group. He hadn’t done anything yet because he wanted to give Dave the chance to handle it first.

The video had been trending since last night, but Dave hadn’t taken any real steps to fix the situation. All he cared about was making it clear that Bianca was the woman he chose. His feelings for her were still strong. That much was obvious.

Lucas didn’t care about the comments people were making about Skylar. He believed the gossip would die down once something new came up. His plan was to have someone quietly remove the video and erase every trace of it.

"Franklin!" Lucas called out firmly. "Find out who leaked that video from the Evans Group banquet right now! It's high time I taught Phoenix Alliance Group a big lesson."

"Mr. Evans, what are you planning to do?" Skylar asked, shocked, as she held onto his sleeve.

Lucas placed his hand over hers to calm her. He wanted her to trust him.

"Don’t worry. I only want what’s best for you. Dave will come crawling back when the pressure gets too much. And when he does, I’ll make sure he marries you. A three-year agreement? He won’t even last three months."

Skylar felt relieved knowing Lucas was willing to help. But the thought of Bianca still made her upset.

She bit her lip. "Bianca isn’t worried because she has Dave on her side. The business partners were going to end their contracts on your orders, but she sued them. She might win the case. She hired the best lawyer and has Dave’s support too. Her winning isn’t the real issue. I’m more worried about the partners. If they think Evans Group betrayed them, it could damage the company’s name."

Lucas was surprised to hear it as it hadn't crossed his mind.

Skylar made a good point. Some of those partners had long-term deals with Evans Group. They only went after Bianca because of his influence. So if Bianca won, not only would the partners lose—Evans Group would suffer too.

How could he let Evans Group lose to a small agency while he was in charge?

At that moment, a new idea came to Lucas.

"Don’t worry," Lucas said. "Evans Group will give full support to our partners." He then looked at Skylar. "Is Bianca’s lawyer Reece Barton?"

Skylar nodded. "Yes, it’s him."

Lucas’s brows pulled together. "Are you close to him?"

Skylar looked anxious for a second, then quickly hid it. "We met a few times when I was overseas, but we’re not close."

"I see."

Trusting Skylar fully, Lucas turned to Franklin. "Get in touch with Caleb Barton. Tell him it’s been a while, and I’d like to see him tonight. Ask him to bring his grandson too."

"Yes, sir," Franklin replied and went off to make the call.

"You're planning to meet Reece Barton?" Skylar asked.

Lucas smiled. "He’s Bianca’s lawyer, right? If we bring him to our side, it helps everyone."

Skylar didn’t expect Lucas to have the same plan as hers. A sharp regret hit her. If she had known, she wouldn’t have slept with Reece. Now, that one choice could put everything at risk.

After finishing his tea, Lucas said he was feeling tired. Skylar helped him back to his room.

Once Lucas was settled, Skylar quickly went back to her room. She then called Reece immediately.

At his law firm, Reece was in a meeting. A small smile lingered on his face, and his coworkers noticed.

"Something good happens, Mr. Barton? You look happy," one lawyer joked.

Reece snapped back to the moment and brushed it off. "Just a normal day. Nothing special."

"Or maybe you’re in love?" another lawyer teased him.

Reece’s face turned red. Since that night with Skylar, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her. But work kept him busy, and Skylar living at the Evans mansion made it hard for him to reach her.

He often dreamed of a life with her, somewhere quiet, just the two of them.

If only she hadn’t gotten involved with Dave...

His thoughts were cut off by the sound of his phone ringing. It was Skylar. He got up without a word and walked out of the meeting to answer.

The other lawyers shared looks. One leaned over and whispered, "That was a woman calling. I saw it."

Soft laughter spread across the room as they watched Reece leave.

Outside the meeting room, Reece picked up the call, trying to hide his excitement. "Skylar! How have you been? What do you need?"

Hearing her soft voice made his heart skip a beat. "Reece, Lucas wants to meet you."

"What?" Reece said, surprised. "Why?"

"It’s about Bianca."

Skylar explained the online attacks. She gave every detail, and it made Reece angry. He hadn’t seen the news and was shocked to hear how much Skylar had been suffering.

"Skylar, don’t worry," Reece said. "I haven’t dealt with people like them in a while, but for you, I will."

"Then... about us..." Skylar hesitated.
