Chapter 459: Dave, You Jerk
Chapter 459: Dave, You Jerk
A sharp breath came through the line. Then, Jalen’s voice turned cold.
"I don’t know Bruno. Tell Mr. Evans he can handle it however he wants. I have no problem with that."
Bruno’s heart plummeted.
"What?" His mind spun in disbelief. Did he hear that right?
Jalen had just abandoned him, leaving him at Dave’s mercy.
Panic clawed at Bruno’s chest. Desperation cracked his voice.
"Mr. Burke! Everything I did was for you! If the police find out, it’ll drag you too. You have to help me!"
Jalen’s reply was like a dagger to the heart.
"What you did do for me? Stop talking nonsense. That was all your own doing—it has nothing to do with me."
His tone grew even colder.
"I’m not stupid enough to leave behind evidence. You were just a tool, Bruno, nothing more. And you actually thought otherwise? Blame yourself for messing with the wrong person. Don’t even think about pulling me down with you."
Bruno’s last shred of hope crumbled. His body went limp as he collapsed to the floor, eyes vacant and spirit broken.
"That’s it then, I’m hanging up," Wyatt said, ready to end the call.
Before he could, Jalen’s voice cut in.
"Wyatt, it’s been a while. When are we catching up?"
Wyatt’s tone remained cold. "I’m busy. No time. We’ll talk later."
Jalen chuckled, trying to sound casual. "Hey, don’t be so cold. I—"
Before Jalen could finish, Wyatt coldly ended the call.
Bruno stared at Wyatt in shock.
Wyatt wasn’t even the boss—just Dave’s subordinate—yet he spoke to Jalen like an equal.
How powerful was Dave Evans?
He realized he had no way to escape.
Bruno crawled to Dave’s feet, clutching his trousers. His voice was hoarse with fear.
"Mr. Evans, I was wrong! I truly was! I should have known who you are! I should have never offended Miss Scott! Please, I swear I’ll never do it again! Spare me—just this once! I beg you!"
Dave knelt down, locking eyes with Bruno. "I told you not to cross the line. You ignored my warning. Consider this a favor that I'm handing you to the police."
Bruno froze, shocked. Dave's earlier warning replayed in his mind. It was always about Bianca. He had misunderstood and now was facing the consequences. Regret flooded over him. How had he been so blind? He wished he could undo his mistake.
Dave didn’t look at Bruno again. He signaled at Wyatt, who quickly grabbed Bruno and handed him over to his men.
Bruno’s screams filled the air as he was dragged away and his voice faded into silence.
Dave turned to Wyatt. "How's the reality show situation?"
Wyatt nodded confidently. "Everything's fine. But about the rumors online about you and Miss Scott, should we shut them down?"
Dave glanced at Bianca, who was sleeping on the sofa a little farther away. "No need," he said firmly.
"Are you sure, Boss?"
Wyatt had already worked to control the rumors but wasn’t sure if that was enough. He wasn’t certain what might happen if the news spread further.
While the Phoenix Alliance Group could handle the fallout, he worried about how Bianca might cope.
Dave shot a quick glance at Wyatt. "Wyatt, you've worked for me long enough. Have I ever changed my mind?"
Wyatt, confident in Dave's decisions, nodded. "Understood."
Dave turned and walked over to Bianca, who was unconscious. Gently, he picked her up. His eyes softened as he studied her flushed face and let out a quiet sigh.
She always made him worried. If he hadn't made that call and overheard her talk with Bruno, he might not have made it in time. The thought of what could have happened made him shiver.
He pushed the fear aside. Holding Bianca in his arms, he treated her as if she were the most delicate thing, afraid she might break with the slightest wrong move.
As Dave was led to the gate of the winery by his men, Bianca suddenly felt her stomach turn. She pulled away from him and grabbed a nearby pillar as she began to vomit.
Dave's men turned away, giving her space and privacy during her distress.
Once the nausea passed, Bianca slowly lifted her head, her vision clearing to reveal Dave's familiar face in front of her.
Bianca reached out, pinching his cheek, laughing in disbelief. "Dave? Am I dreaming again?"
"It's not a dream," Dave said softly. He took her small hand with one of his, supporting her with the other. "It's me. I'm right here."
Bianca blinked and her eyes were focused on Dave’s face. Without warning, she clenched her fist and punched his chest.
"Dave, you jerk!"
Her sudden outburst left Dave’s men stunned. They had served him for years but had never seen anyone dare insult their boss like this.
Dave sighed. "Yes, it's all my fault. You can hit me or punish me however you want. But please, just come home with me now, okay?"
He reached for her, but Bianca pushed him away, clearly refusing.
Bianca was completely drunk, lost in a whirlwind of emotions. She didn’t care who was watching.
"I'm not going anywhere with you, you liar!"
Her words were arrogant, but her actions told a different story. She held Dave’s collar and stared at him with teary eyes. Her makeup was smudged, and her hair was a mess, but none of that mattered to her.
She wasn’t thinking about how foolish she looked. All that mattered was letting out the pain she had been holding inside.
"Why, Dave? You said you loved me. Then why did you tell her you’d never marry me? And why did you cheat on me with her? What am I to you?"
Bianca’s words sent a wave of shock through Dave’s men. Was it true? Had their boss really cheated on her?
A murmur of excitement rippled through the group.
Dave’s expression darkened as he grabbed Bianca’s arm, his voice turning cold. "What nonsense is this? I’ve never loved anyone else, and I’ve never been with another woman besides you."
"But Skylar told me everything! She said you spent the entire night with her on the cruise ship! Is it true?" Bianca’s voice shook, her tears falling freely as she cried in pain.
Everything suddenly made sense to Dave. Now he understood why Bianca was so convinced. Skylar had been spreading lies again, trying to cause trouble.
This wasn’t the time or place for explanations. Without saying any words, he pulled Bianca into his arms and hugged her tightly.
