CHAPTER 136
CHAPTER 136
"What the hell was that?!"
Amon's voice almost trembled, like he was struggling to keep calm. It didn't work that well, and his reaction ignited a smouldering flam deep inside my chest.
"No! No, you are not allowed to be angry with me! This is serious Eir! No matter what you think of this man, or what I think of this imbecile he is still a king! And unfortunately, he is right, the law is clear."
His anger faded as he spoke, and left stood a defeated man and my stomach tightened. A heavy lump formed, and swallowing became harder only now seeing how tired he looked. But I didn't know how to answer. What to answer. That cold, wicked feeling I felt earlier. It was like nothing I'd ever felt before, but still, it felt right. Addictive. Craving. It belonged to me!
"Eir!?"
With a sharp gasp, I snapped back. Confused and upset I stared right into Amon's worried eyes.
"Yes...Yes?"
My voice broke, cracked. I had to stop, and clear my throat only to repeat myself. A little scared. Only thinking back to that moment was enough for something to pull me right back in. The scariest part? I wanted it to.
"Are you even listening? This is serious! You better beg the goddess Tew manages to make a deal or offer to the king he will accept!"
"I...I am sorry...I have no idea what went on in my head at that moment."
I'm not lying. I am not lying. I chanted to myself, to Drifta. Because I'm not! I know I'm not, but still, I felt a wave of relief wash over me as Drifta agreed with me.
A heavy and frustrated sigh and two warm hands pulled me out of my mental battle with myself. His fingers' warmth spread across my cheeks as they slid up behind my ears. A sight of pure delight slipped my lips when he leaned down and pressed his forehead against mine. His warm breath brushed over my face, and tickling heavenly small sparks danced over my skin with his touch.
"What am I going to do with you **little søtt navn ett eller anna**"
He whispers while pressing himself closer.
"You can't keep on like this. You are tired! You never stop, never take a break. Never breathe."
"I know... but I don't know how... and I can't..."
For a couple of seconds, all that filled the little space between us were breathing and heartbeats throbbing over our lips.
"I know."
Pressing his lips to my forehead. A gentle warm kiss, before he pulled away. Leaving me cold and alone. Every single cell in my body screamed for his touch, sent and warmth again.
My eyes rested on his chest, if I only reached my hand out right now; I could touch him. But I didn't. Instead, I froze. I just stood there looking at his chest rising and falling with each deep and steady breath he took.
The door slammed open, and an angry Maya came stomping out. Following right behind her came Arcane looking a bit flustered and frustrated.
"I don't care!"
Maya growled when she rushed past us.
"They are my kids, and I protect them how I see fit! That is my right! Even by law! It's written down, right next to the sparkling la-di-da king's precious law!"
Then she stopped, and Arcane almost ran right into her. However, she didn't even seem to notice. Only turned around to meet my gaze,
"Tew made a deal, and you won't like it!"
Amon's entire body tensed up, Maya scoffed and gave Arcane a displeased stare then off she went. We could her hear growling, cussing, and yelling through clenched teeth long after they disappeared from our view. Like an instinct my eyes searched for Amon's, searching for comfort and answers. His mouth opened, but before a word could leave his lips the door slammed open again.
For a second, everything slowed down. My eyes watched as the king and his men walked away, and I swear the king smirked at me before turning around. I watched as Fay left the grand hall, and turned around another building followed closely by his entourage. Amon and I had walked out of the grand hall, well no, Tew had thrown us out so he could talk to the king. Without me there. Now Tew came walking up and stopped in the doorway. Grabbing the top of the frame and leaning forward. Like a lazy and little rebellious teenager hanging in the doorway, his eyes followed the fay king.
"Come in, both of you."
He said with a deep sigh, dragging his fingers through his hair before he walked back inside. Again, I found myself looking towards Amon, still feeling a strange need to meet his stare. See his reaction and eyes. Needed his confirmation that this was going to be okay. I never got that, instead, he had turned away, following Tew. Just when my heart dropped, his hand wrapped around mine, pulling me to follow. Warm sparks and electrical waves danced over my skin as he touched mine again and it felt impossible to hold back a heartfelt sigh.
"That's it? Are you sure?"
Tew had slid down like a sack half full of potatoes on the massive wooden chair at the end of the table. Amon had finally stopped pacing back and forth, sparking every single nerve inside. With each step he had taken it felt like anxiety grew inside of me, crawled and poked right beneath my skin. Tightening the grip around my heart, putting pressure on my chest.
Now he sounded surprised but relieved, however, I felt stunned. Numb, clouds clogged my ears, and thick fog claimed the corners of my vision. I have not had time to expect anything, not the best of the worst really. Prison, punishment and fear, of course, but nothing further. Now, I felt numb. On one hand, it felt too easy. It didn't reflect how I've seen the king so far at all. But then it began to sink in. The meaning of it, the consequences.
"It was all he asked, and, as he made sure to repeat over and over again, this is a one-time offer. If she breaks the agreement, or try anything like it ever again, gets caught even thinking about it, she will be dragged in front of the elders."
Amon placed both hands on the wooden table and placed most of his weight on them hanging his head. He breathed out a sigh of relief. Maybe disbelief, because the sight was followed with a short and horas burst of laughter. Then he started repeating Tew's words.
"So, she is banned from the land of the sun, all fay owned land. She cannot cross any of their borders, neighed by sea, air or earth. She will be seen as a lesser creature by Fay, and she will not be allowed to meet any Fay being's gaze. Why? This sounds petty and ridiculous, even for that guy!"
"This means, she will never be able to meet her sister. This means she will never be allowed to meet her sister's stare."
Tew's deep voice sounded hoarse and wounded, and a thick and cold cloud started to swirl inside my chest. Grew bigger with each shaking breath I took as my mind kept racing. Never. I can never see my sister. Never met her. Never can we look into each other's eyes. Was this a cruel joke?
