Chapter 230
Chapter 230
Since Sergio did not speak, Alaina decided to keep mute as well.
Until the elevator reached the first floor, Alaina felt suppressed by this strange aura to the point that she could barely breathe. A thin layer of sweat appeared on her forehead.
She got out of the elevator as soon as the door opened, as if she was escaping from it. She soon felt that her breathing was much smoother.
"See you!" She hastened to run away after she dropped her words.
She walked with her head lowered and did not see Velma standing in front of her.
With a crashing noise, the documents in Velma's hands fell to the ground and scattered around.
Velma glared at Alaina and said with anger, "What are you doing? Why don't you look where you're going? Are you blind?"
"Miss Remington, sorry! I'm so sorry. I didn't do it on purpose!" Alaina quickly squatted down to help Velma pick up the documents.
Velma knew that Alaina entered the company at the same time as her, but did not expect that Alaina was the assistant director.
The only way to approach Malcolm was to go to the twenty-fifth floor.
But she did not even have a chance to go to the twenty-fifth floor except for work.
It was so unfair.
Velma got angrier as she thought of this, so she growled harshly at Alaina, "Hurry up! My boyfriend is coming to pick me up soon. He does not have time for you to waste!"
Sergio walked out of the elevator after Alaina. When he heard Velma's words, his bad mood exacerbated.
He strode over and pulled Alaina up.
The documents that Alaina had picked up fell to the ground again.
Seeing Sergio, Velma frowned and wondered why Sergio would always appear like a ghost wherever she went.
"Sergio?" Alaina looked at him in confusion.
Sergio frowned and said coldly, "You have already apologized to her. Why didn't you retaliate against her words? She mocked you so harshly. If I were you, I would return the sarcasm immediately."
"Since she looked down on you for no reason, why couldn't you refute the person who showed off in front of you with contempt and indifference?"
"Sergio, I ..." Alaina glanced at him and was very grateful for his defending her. However, she did not think she should go against the eldest daughter of the Remington family.
Thinking of her own background, Alaina smiled bitterly.
She looked at Sergio and shook her head. "Sergio, thank you, but I'm alright. I have to help Miss Remington pick them up first."
As she spoke, she broke free from Sergio's hand and squatted down again to help pick up the documents.
Velma sneered and said, "Sergio, you attempted to save the damsel in distress, but she didn't seem to appreciate it." Her tone was full of arrogance, and she did not mean to conceal it, since she had always been at odds with Sergio.
She never figured out when she had provoked Sergio and why Sergio had always ignored and hated her.
A trace of disdain flashed across Sergio's eyes. His lips curled up. He did not even want to speak to Velma.
Alaina was busy picking up the documents when she suddenly saw the words "Paternity Test" on one of the scattered documents. With a glance, she saw Marilyn and Debbie's names on it and was surprised.
She picked up all the documents in silence and handed them to Velma.
Velma took the documents and glared at her before she walked out arrogantly.
Sergio did not look at Alaina again before he left.
Alaina looked at the backs of Velma and Sergio, and her gaze became complicated when she thought of the paternity test report she had just seen.
She knew Debbie was Velma's mother, also known as Mrs. Remington in Fielddell.
But why did she do a paternity test with Marilyn?
Alaina thought about it and the scene when she came to the job interview flashed through her mind. Several women sitting beside her said that Velma did not seem to be the biological daughter of the Remington family, but was adopted from the orphanage.
Therefore...
Alaina bit her lower lip and walked out with her head lowered.
In Marilyn's house.
Dominic witnessed the reversal and finally felt a little relieved.
He took out his smartphone and called Malcolm.
Malcolm and Marilyn had a great day together.
Malcolm took Marilyn to a restaurant by the sea and was about to enjoy their dinner when he received Dominic's call.
Malcolm glanced at Marilyn and saw her in a good mood. "Lynn, wait for a second. I have to take this," Malcolm said with a smile.
"No problem!" Marilyn nodded slightly.
"I'll be back soon!" Malcolm walked out.
Only then did Marilyn have the chance to take out her smartphone from her bag and check the news on it.
She had seen the news during the day, but she had not expected those people would follow them all the way up here!
However, this did not affect her mood. She had always wanted to come to this place. What's more, she was having a good time today.
Suddenly, her phone rang as well. It was Roland.
She pursed her lips slightly and answered it. "What's up, Roland?"
On the other side, Roland was silent for a while before asking, "Lynn, are you in Summerford with Malcolm?"
Marilyn did not deny it.
"Lynn, have you forgotten what I said to you? If you go with Malcolm, you will be involved in their family rivalry. You must have seen the news today. Lynn, what should I do with you?" Roland's voice was filled with pain.
Seeing them holding each other's hand, he wished he could fly over and tear Malcolm apart immediately.
Why did Malcolm steal Marilyn away from him? There were so many women out there, but why Marilyn?
Marilyn lowered her head. She knew why Roland was worried. "Roland, I know that you are very worried about me, but Roland, the Malcolm in your eyes is different from the Malcolm I saw," she smiled and said.
"What do you mean? Lynn, are you tempted by him? Lynn, I loved you for seven years and waited for you for seven years. Why can't it be me? Why?"
"Am I worse than Malcolm? Is it that I am not as rich as him? Lynn, tell me, what should I do? What can I do to make you love me?"
Roland's sorrowful voice was full of helplessness.
Marilyn's smartphone almost fell to the ground when she heard what Roland said.
It was the first time Roland had spoken to her like this and also the first time she had heard such a painful voice from Roland.
"Roland, sorry," Marilyn choked. She did not know what to say except for this.
Roland closed his eyes in pain. The news had provoked him into losing control of his feelings.
At night, without hearing a word of her explanation or receiving a call from her, he finally lost control and called her, hoping to hear from her mouth that it was a misunderstanding.
But she said sorry!
Roland felt an acute agony in his heart.
After a long while, with his emotions suppressed, he slowly exhaled a grand breath and said, "Lynn, we'll talk when you come back tomorrow night."
When he finished, he hung up the phone immediately.
