Chapter 83
Chapter 83
"She is a pretty good cook," Malcolm thought. He could see from Marilyn's skillful manners that she often cooked. "What did Lynn go through over these years?"
It was painful for Malcolm to think about this.
He did not look at Marilyn. Instead, he lowered his head and said with a smile, "Lynn, it's very delicious. This is the first time I've had such delicious ravioli. It reminded me of my childhood. For the first time, a very considerate little girl gave me a strawberry lollipop. It was so sweet."
His clear voice was full of nostalgia.
Marilyn felt that there was an unknown pain in his heart.
Marilyn looked up and saw the wistful look on his face. "Is he missing someone?" she wondered.
Marilyn suddenly remembered Debbie's words. "Is he missing the woman he liked?"
...
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Marilyn looked at the door and thought, "It should be Roland. Only Roland knows that I live here."
Then she glanced at Malcolm and didn't say anything, but got up and opened the door.
She was right. It was Roland.
"Lynn, I've brought supper for you." Roland smiled happily and showed her the shrimp and hot wings in his hand. He had a big bright smile.
Malcolm's face darkened as he heard that it was Roland. "What is Roland doing here so late at night?"
Malcolm forgot he was also an unexpected visitor.
Marilyn smiled, "Roland, it's so late. Why did you especially bring me supper? I can take care of myself. Don't worry about me."
Marilyn got out of the way and let Roland in.
"You always settle for some cold, simple snacks. If I don't take good care of you, the kids will be angry at me." Roland gave a serious look. He was afraid that she hadn't eaten anything at the banquet and went to bed hungry.
However, when he saw Malcolm sitting in the living room, the smile on his face froze.
Roland's jaw clenched when he saw the handsome man in Marilyn's place.
Malcolm gave Roland a haughty look. The aristocratic man didn't hide his innate arrogance when he faced a man who wanted to steal his woman.
Marilyn felt the tense atmosphere between the two men.
She looked at Roland and explained, "Roland, Mr. Lowe dropped me home. We barely ate anything at the banquet. So I made ravioli. Would you like to have some? I'll make more."
Roland was her friend, her big brother. All she wanted now was to take revenge and find her biological parents. She had never thought about falling in love with anybody.
She didn't think that Roland saw Malcolm being here at midnight was a big deal.
Roland raised his eyebrows as he stared at her calm and innocent smiling face.
A thoughtful expression appeared on his handsome face.
"Lynn, you silly girl, can't you see that Malcolm has some feelings for you?"
Roland pulled Marilyn's hand and walked to Malcolm. With a fake smile, he said politely, "Mr. Lowe, thank you for taking care of my Lynn."
Roland thought he should not have listened to Marilyn tonight and should have gone to pick her up directly.
"Malcolm is dangerous. A man who does not even have any scandals, suddenly gets close to Lynn? He must have an ulterior motive."
Malcolm's face darkened as he saw Roland holding Marilyn's hand. His eyes dangerously narrowed. He was horribly calm, and his eyes were filled with anger as he stared hard at their hands.
Roland wasn't scared by that terrifying aura. He was also a cold person.
Only in front of Marilyn would he be so gentle.
After a long while, Malcolm looked up at Roland with a mocking smile, "Mr. Harrison, watch your language. Lynn is not yours. No gentleman would let a lady walk home alone at the dangerous midnight. So I sent Lynn home."
Malcolm added in his mind, "And Roland is the biggest danger.
He has been by Lynn's side and taken care of her."
Roland sat down with Marilyn. He placed the things in his hands on the table. Roland knew what Malcolm implied. He also smiled politely and said, "I also know that it is not safe for Lynn to come back alone at night. In the future, I will not trouble Mr. Lowe. No matter where Lynn is, I will pick her up."
Roland thought, "Lynn is a kind, simple girl. She doesn't even know that there is a wolf by her side."
Malcolm darted a frigid stare at Roland. Under the light, his profile was incredibly charming. His dark eyes were sharp as he looked at Roland. There was a dangerous aura around Malcolm.
Although Malcolm was smiling, his smile was icy cold. There was also a hint of coldness in his voice. "Lynn is my employee. It's my duty to send her back. Mr. Harrison is busy. I can pick Lynn up at any time. There's no need to trouble Mr. Harrison."
Malcolm sounded reasonable but also a bit strange.
Marilyn felt the tension between the two and looked up at them.
She wondered, "What is happening?
Are they enemies? Why do they fight every time they meet each other?
But Roland didn't say they had a grudge."
She frowned and changed the topic, "Well, Roland, what did you buy?"
Roland looked at her with an enchanting faint smile, "Lynn, of course, I bring our favorites, shrimps, and hot wings. I know what you like most."
Roland emphasized the word "our" and quickly opened the takeout.
A spicy smell instantly filled the room.
"It looks delicious!" Marilyn looked at the food in surprise.
She could never get enough shrimps.
Marilyn took out the disposable gloves and handed them to Malcolm and Roland.
There was still some ravioli left on Malcolm's plate. Compared to the takeout that Roland had bought, he preferred ravioli.
"Lynn, try some! It won't taste good when it gets cold later." Roland ignored Malcolm and said to Marilyn.
"Okay! You, too. You're busy all day and don't have much time to take care of yourself." Marilyn mumbled as she lowered her head to eat.
Roland smiled. "Lynn, no matter how busy I am, I will take good care of you!"
They chatted happily.
Malcolm felt like he was an outsider, unable to engage with them.
Malcolm lowered his head, and his slightly narrowed eyes reflected a dangerous light.
Roland indeed had different kinds of feelings for Marilyn. The love in Roland's eyes could not be concealed when he faced Marilyn.
