Destined by One Night: The CEO's Pursuit

Chapter 54

Chapter 54

Marilyn looked at Roland and smiled sweetly. "No matter what, you and Jeannie have been helping me for so many years. I should say thank you."

Generally speaking, Marilyn would not conceal what she really thought in front of Roland and Jeannie.

Marilyn was simple, kind, gentle, and considerate. In this material society, Roland had seen too many greedy and vain women.

Rarely, Marilyn was never one of these people.

It made Roland feel that he had met the destiny that he had been waiting for.

He knew what had happened to Marilyn. When Marilyn decided to give birth to her three children, Roland did not stop her. Instead, he supported Marilyn and accompanied her all the time.

Roland knew how much Marilyn had been longing for a warm home.

Roland once believed that if he worked hard, Marilyn would fall in love with him.

The waiter served the shrimp, which was Roland's and Marilyn's favorite. There were overall four dishes on the table, but the two were only keen on the shrimp.

Roland grinned. He picked up the water on the table and took a sip. Roland looked at Marilyn and smiled. "Lynn, if you really want to thank me, why not treat me to dinner tomorrow night?"

Malcolm, who had just sat in his seat, happened to hear this.

Marilyn smiled and raised her eyebrows. "Roland, I've treated you many times. If I keep doing this, my salary for this month will be over."

"Miser, I'll treat you to a meal then. You just have to eat with me!" Roland glared at Marilyn. However, after Roland treated her to a meal, Marilyn would have to treat Roland back, so that she would not owe Roland too much.

Roland knew it clearly. At the thought of this, he felt uncomfortable.

He then picked up fish for Marilyn and put it on her plate.

Roland urged, "Eat quickly. I'll take you to see the house later. I've checked that house. It's a very good one. You just need to renovate the place, and you can move into it before Arturo starts school."

"Okay, but I have to go back to Goldmere next week. Laverne will launch a painting exhibition there. I lost the handkerchief she gave me last time. If she knew it, she would definitely be very unhappy."

Marilyn suddenly thought of Malcolm's face with blood all over.

She sighed inwardly. "Forget it. I won't be able to get it back."

Roland said with a smile, "Lynn, I'll go back with you. Laverne will get first place this time too."

"I hope so. Dominic said that Laverne had been working hard during this period. She even locks herself in her room every day." When Marilyn mentioned her daughter, her bright eyes shone with a soft light.

Marilyn gazed at Roland for a while with her clear eyes and said, "Roland, it's not that you are coming with me this time, but you have to. Don't tell me you really want to stay in Fielddell."

Roland elegantly picked up a piece of fish with a fork. After eating it, he slowly said with a smile, "Lynn, I've said it before. Wherever you are, I will be there. If you go to Fielddell, I will go with you."

His voice was faint, while it sounded serious and firm.

Marilyn paused for a moment. Deep gratitude rose in her heart. "Roland, if you're going to work there, you naturally have to stay. But if you stay for me, that would be too much for me. You shouldn't do that!"

Marilyn and Roland never hid anything from each other. Marilyn had never given Roland any hint that she would have a feeling for him. Marilyn had raised three children by herself, and she didn't want to hinder Roland from looking for his soul mate.

Roland understood what Marilyn meant, and pain arose in his heart. No matter what he did, Marilyn had been refusing him. Roland was unable to go to her heart.

He knew Marilyn's concerns and what she was thinking.

But so what? Roland still could not go into Marilyn's heart.

It looked like Marilyn was delicate and needed protection, but Roland knew how strong she really was.

When Marilyn was having her meal with her head down, Roland glanced at her and said with a faintly disdainful smile, "Lynn, you flattered yourself. I stayed for work, not you. Who do you think you are?"

With food in her mouth, Marilyn looked into his smiling eyes, as if she was trying to figure out if he was telling the truth.

But in his eyes, there was nothing but a smile.

In the end, she nodded and smiled. "If that's true, I will feel much easier!"

Roland's hand paused on its way to fork the dishes as he looked at her. He couldn't help but ask, "Lynn, have you ever felt stressed for I stay here?" His tone was solemn and he looked like a wounded beast trapped in the abyss of despair.

People said that if you fell in love with someone, you would get better at the end of the day, even if you couldn't get love.

Roland never wanted anything back in this relationship.

With a serious face, Marilyn looked at Roland. Her honesty was so palpable in her clear eyes.

"Roland, you know that's not what I meant. Hurry up. We'll check out the house later!"

Every time this question was mentioned, things would turn out like this.

"Alright! I knew you couldn't wait to go there. But just take your time. The house is right there. No one will snatch it from you."

Marilyn didn't know what to say.

"Was I gobbling up the food?" Marilyn wondered.

"No, I ate elegantly," she told herself.

Marilyn said jokingly, "How do you know? You always 'snatch' shrimps from me?"

As Marilyn spoke, she put on disposable gloves and looked as if she was ready to pig out.

Upon seeing this, Roland also took disposable gloves and put them on. In fact, he didn't like to "snatch" any food from her and enjoyed being with her.

But playing tricks on her would make him happy for several days.

Marilyn peeled a shrimp and put it in her mouth. "Roland, you are rich and well-respected. I've treated you to nothing but shrimps. You must be upset about it, right?"

"Yes!" Roland said firmly, but the smile on his lips was wide and warm when he worked hard on peeling shrimp shells.

Marilyn looked at him and was amused. "A shrimp shell is enough to wear you out."

"Even with all my strength, I can't peel it off. This one is quite big and has a perfect texture!" Roland said as he struggled with the shell.

Finally, he succeeded but handed it to Marilyn's mouth.

"What are you doing?" Marilyn looked at it and got a bit nervous!

This made her feel like they were a couple in love.

But this was how Roland, Jeannie, and Marilyn got along since they were close.

"Oh! Lynn, why are you being shy today? Did I miss something?" Roland teased and his eyes fixed on her lit up.

Marilyn did not say anything and lowered her head to eat the shrimp.

Marilyn mumbled, "I'm not. Actually, I appreciate your hard work!"

Roland found her adorable and beamed with delight.

The joy he felt from spending time with Marilyn would last a few days.
