Chapter 296
Chapter 296
Avery stood by the window of the bridal suite, staring out at the relentless downpour soaking the carefully planned garden setup. Her heart sank as raindrops splattered against the glass, blurring the view of the lush estate she had envisioned for her big day.
“This is a disaster,” she muttered, her voice trembling.
Janice, who was busy fastening the back of Avery’s wedding dress, looked up with a mix of sympathy and determination. “It’s not a disaster, Aves. It’s just… a plot twist. Every great love story has one.”
Avery spun around, her eyes wide with frustration. “A plot twist? Janice, my entire wedding was supposed to happen outside! The ceremony, the pictures, the reception—everything!”
Janice shrugged, stepping back to admire Avery in the mirror. “First of all, you look stunning. Second, you need to breathe. Ryan’s downstairs, the guests are arriving, and no one is going to care about a little rain.”
“It’s not a little rain,” Avery shot back, glancing at her reflection. Her lace gown fit perfectly, the soft ivory fabric hugging her figure before cascading into a delicate train. The tiara perched on her head sparkled under the suite’s warm lighting, but her face was clouded with worry.
As Avery paced the room, there was a knock at the door. Clara, her assistant, peeked in with a sheepish smile. “Sorry to interrupt, but someone’s here to see you.”
“Who?” Avery asked, confused.
Before Clara could answer, Ryan Hayes stepped into the room, holding an umbrella and wearing a mischievous grin.
“Ryan!” Avery exclaimed, half-annoyed and half-relieved. “You’re not supposed to see me before the ceremony.”
Ryan shrugged, closing the umbrella and setting it aside. “I heard the bride was freaking out, so I figured I’d break tradition for a good cause.”
Avery crossed her arms, trying to hold onto her frustration. “Ryan, it’s raining. Everything we planned is ruined.”
He walked up to her, placing his hands gently on her shoulders. “Avery, nothing is ruined. The rain doesn’t change how much I love you, or how excited I am to marry you. In fact, rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck.”
“That’s just something people say to make you feel better,” Avery muttered, her lips twitching into a small smile despite herself.
“Maybe,” Ryan said, grinning. “But we’ll make it work. You and me, remember?”
