The Rebirth of My Dead Billionaire Wife

Chapter 264

Chapter 264

Avery Kane Deveraux gripped the hospital bed rails, her knuckles white as another sharp pain tore through her abdomen. Her breathing was labored, tears streaming down her face as she tried to stay calm.

“Ryan,” she gasped, her voice shaky. “Something’s wrong. It hurts so much.”

Ryan Hayes was immediately at her side, his hazel eyes filled with panic. He crouched down, taking her trembling hand in his. “I’m here, Avery. I’ve got you. I’m not going anywhere.”

A nurse entered the room, her expression shifting to concern as she saw Avery’s condition.

“She’s in more pain,” Ryan said urgently. “It’s getting worse. Please, do something.”

The nurse nodded, her voice calm but firm. “We’re going to take her for further evaluation right now.”

She called for a wheelchair, and moments later, Avery was being gently helped into it. Ryan stayed close, his hand never leaving hers.

Avery was wheeled into another room for additional tests, the pain radiating through her body almost unbearable. Her mind raced with fear, clinging to the hope that the baby would be okay.

Dr. Patel arrived quickly, his demeanor still composed but visibly concerned.

“Avery,” he said gently, kneeling beside her. “We’re going to do everything we can to figure out what’s happening. I need you to stay as calm as possible, okay?”

She nodded weakly, her grip tightening on Ryan’s hand. “Please… just make sure my baby is okay,” she whispered through tears.

The ultrasound machine was brought in, and the room fell silent as the technician began the procedure. Avery’s heart pounded, her eyes fixed on the screen.

Dr. Patel studied the image, his expression growing heavier with each passing second. He finally turned to Avery, his voice filled with sorrow.

“Avery, I’m so sorry,” he said, his words deliberate but heavy. “The baby’s heartbeat is no longer detectable.”

The words hit Avery like a physical blow. She stared at Dr. Patel, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she tried to process what he had just said.

“No,” she said, her voice breaking. “No, that can’t be true. Check again.”

“Avery,” Dr. Patel said softly, his eyes filled with compassion. “I know this is hard to hear, but we’ve confirmed it. I’m so sorry for your loss.”

Ryan let out a shaky breath, his own eyes glistening with unshed tears as he turned to Avery. “I’m so sorry, Aves,” he whispered, pulling her into his arms.

“No!” Avery sobbed, clutching at Ryan’s shirt. “This can’t be happening. We were fine. Everything was fine.”

Avery’s cries filled the room, raw and unrestrained, as Ryan held her tightly, his own tears falling silently. The grief was suffocating, a weight pressing down on both of them.

“This isn’t fair,” Avery choked out, her voice cracking. “Why did this happen? I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“You didn’t,” Ryan said, his voice trembling. “This isn’t your fault, Avery. It’s not your fault.”

Dr. Patel gave them space, stepping aside to allow them to process the news. The nurse brought tissues and water, her movements quiet and respectful.

After what felt like an eternity, Avery looked up at Dr. Patel, her face pale and streaked with tears. “What happens now?” she asked, her voice barely audible.

Dr. Patel sat beside her, his tone steady but kind. “We’ll need to perform a procedure to ensure your body heals properly. You’ll need some time to recover physically and emotionally, and we’ll be here to support you every step of the way.”

Avery nodded numbly, her energy drained. “Okay,” she whispered.

As they prepared Avery for the procedure, Ryan stayed by her side, holding her hand tightly. He didn’t say much—he didn’t need to. His presence alone was enough to ground her, to remind her she wasn’t facing this alone.

“You’re so strong,” Ryan said softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “I wish I could take this pain away from you.”

Avery shook her head, her tears falling freely. “I don’t feel strong, Ryan. I feel broken.”

“You’re not broken,” he said firmly, his voice filled with emotion. “You’re the strongest person I know, Avery. And we’re going to get through this together.”

Hours later, Avery woke up in the recovery room, her body feeling weak and hollow. The physical pain was manageable, but the emotional ache was unbearable.

Ryan was sitting beside her bed, his hand wrapped around hers. His eyes were red, but his expression was steady, determined.

“Hey,” he said softly when he saw her stir.

“Hi,” she whispered, her voice hoarse.

“I’m here,” Ryan said. “And I’m not going anywhere.”

Avery stared at him for a long moment before bursting into tears again. “I wanted this so badly, Ryan. I was already imagining everything—what the baby would look like, who they’d grow up to be. And now it’s gone.”

Ryan’s voice broke as he spoke. “I know, Aves. I was imagining it too. And it hurts so much… but I promise, we’ll get through this.”
