The Rebirth of My Dead Billionaire Wife

Chapter 215

Chapter 215

Avery Kane Deveraux stood in the grand, high-ceilinged conference room of Kane Enterprises, facing someone she never thought she’d see again in such circumstances: Margaret Langford, a former board member and one of the company’s most respected figures during her tenure. Margaret had stepped down years ago, citing “retirement,” but Avery had always suspected there was more to the story.

Now, Margaret sat across from her with an unnervingly calm demeanor, a faint smirk playing on her lips. The documents Avery had spread on the table were damning—proof that Margaret had orchestrated the recent corporate sabotage, funneling funds and misdirecting blame to other senior executives.

“I trusted you,” Avery said, her voice low but steady.

Margaret tilted her head, her expression cold and calculating. “And that was your first mistake, my dear.”

“You’ve been sabotaging Kane Enterprises from the shadows, all to undermine my leadership,” Avery continued, her anger rising. “Why? What could you possibly gain from this?”

Margaret leaned back in her chair, unbothered by the accusation. “Revenge, Avery. Pure and simple. Do you know how humiliating it was to be pushed out of my position after decades of loyalty? To watch someone as young and unproven as you take over the company I helped build?”

“You stepped down,” Avery said sharply.

“I was forced to step down,” Margaret countered, her voice chilling. “Your father made it clear that Kane Enterprises needed ‘fresh blood.’ And when you took over, it was like a slap in the face.”

Avery’s fists clenched at her sides. “So you decided to destroy the company? That’s your solution?”

“Oh, don’t be so dramatic,” Margaret said with a dismissive wave. “I’m not destroying Kane Enterprises—I’m simply reminding everyone that your so-called success was built on shaky ground.”

Margaret leaned forward, her smirk sharpening. “You know, Avery, the corporate world loves a good scandal. I wonder what people would think if they found out about the… less savory rumors surrounding your rise to CEO.”

Avery’s heart skipped a beat, but she didn’t let it show. “What are you talking about?”

“Oh, you know exactly what I mean,” Margaret said, her voice dripping with malice. “Whispers about nepotism. Favoritism. Deals made behind closed doors to secure your position. Imagine what that would do to your reputation—and Kane Enterprises’ stock prices.”

Avery’s stomach churned. She had faced rumors before, but the thought of Margaret leveraging them into a full-blown scandal was terrifying.

“What do you want?” Avery asked, her voice icy.

“It’s simple,” Margaret said, standing and smoothing her tailored jacket. “Step down as CEO. Quietly, gracefully. If you do, I’ll make sure the rumors stay buried. But if you fight me…” She trailed off, her smirk widening. “Well, I’m sure you can imagine the fallout.”

That evening, Avery sat in her living room, staring blankly at the city lights outside her window. She hadn’t told anyone about her meeting with Margaret, not even Shawn. But the weight of the confrontation was unbearable, and she knew she couldn’t keep it to herself any longer.

Shawn entered the room, carrying two glasses of wine. He immediately noticed the tension in her posture and set the glasses down. “Aves, what’s going on? You’ve been quiet all night.”

Avery turned to him, her gray eyes filled with worry. “I need to tell you something.”

“Okay,” Shawn said gently, sitting beside her.

She hesitated for a moment before recounting everything: the sabotage, the investigation, and her confrontation with Margaret. As she spoke, Shawn’s expression shifted from concern to anger.

“She threatened you?” he asked, his voice low and furious.

“She wants me to step down as CEO,” Avery said, her voice trembling slightly. “She said she’ll spread damaging rumors if I don’t.”

Shawn reached for her hands, holding them tightly. “Avery, listen to me. You’re one of the smartest, strongest people I know. Margaret is scared of you—scared of what you’ve accomplished. Don’t let her win.”

“I don’t know if I can fight this, Shawn,” Avery admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “If those rumors spread, it could ruin everything.”

“You’re not fighting this alone,” Shawn said firmly. “Whatever happens, I’m with you. Always.”

As Avery felt the faintest sense of relief in Shawn’s reassurance, her phone buzzed with a text. She glanced at it, her stomach dropping when she saw Margaret’s name. The message was short but devastating:

“You might want to ask Shawn about his perfect little life. Not everything is as it seems.”
