Chapter 97
Chapter 97
The darkened streets were silent as the convoy of black SUVs pulled up outside Pamela’s old house. The Kane family had arrived cautiously, their nerves on edge. The GPS tracker and phone records had led them here—Pamela’s last known address before her tragic death.
“Why here?” Zane asked, his voice low but trembling. “She doesn’t live here anymore. She’s gone.”
Christian, standing beside him, tightened his grip on his gun. “We’re about to find out.”
Alessia stepped forward, her heart pounding. “If the message came from this house, then someone’s been using it as a base. We need answers.”
Elena, with her laptop in hand, nodded grimly. “No power to the property. No signs of recent sales or rentals. It’s technically abandoned.”
Zane swallowed hard, staring at the house. “Let’s go.”
The family entered cautiously, their flashlights cutting through the darkness. The house smelled faintly of dust and damp wood, the air heavy with disuse. Memories of Pamela flooded Zane as they walked through the hallways—memories of dinners, laughter, and love. Alessia stayed close, her own stomach twisting with unease.
Suddenly, a faint creak sounded from upstairs. The group froze.
“Someone’s here,” Tobias whispered, motioning for everyone to stay quiet.
Christian signaled for Zane to follow him while Tobias and Jonathan took the lead. Alessia stayed close to Elena, her hands trembling slightly. Step by step, they ascended the stairs, the sound of their footsteps muffled against the old carpet.
As they reached the second floor, a light flickered on in one of the rooms.
“That wasn’t on before,” Elena whispered.
Zane’s breath hitched as he pushed past them, rushing toward the room. “Pamela?!” he called out, his voice breaking.
Christian grabbed his arm, pulling him back. “Wait—be careful.”
But it was too late. The door opened, and standing in the middle of the room, illuminated by the dim glow of a single bulb, was Gianna.
The room fell into a stunned silence as everyone processed what they were seeing. Gianna stood there, her face pale but defiant. She raised her hands slightly, as if to show she wasn’t a threat.
“What… what the hell?” Zane stammered, his voice shaking. “Gianna? What are you doing here?”
