Chapter 95
Chapter 95
The following night, the Kane family’s plan was in motion. Alessia sat in a black SUV parked on the edge of a dimly lit warehouse district. Christian and Zane sat beside her, both tense and alert. In the front seat, Tobias and Jonathan monitored comms while Elena coordinated from the estate.
“This feels too quiet,” Zane muttered, his hand resting near his concealed weapon.
“It’s a trap,” Alessia said flatly, staring out the window. “But we don’t have a choice.”
Christian reached over, his hand covering hers. “We’re ready for him. He won’t get to you.”
Elena’s voice crackled through the earpiece. “We’ve got movement. Black sedan approaching from the east.”
Alessia’s pulse quickened as she watched the headlights creep closer. “Is it him?”
“Too early to tell,” Tobias said, adjusting the feed. “Stay sharp.”
The sedan rolled to a stop about twenty feet away, and a tall figure stepped out. Even in the shadows, Alessia could feel the weight of his presence. Damian.
“It’s him,” Christian confirmed, his jaw tightening.
Damian took a few steps forward, his voice carrying across the quiet lot. “Alessia! I know you’re here. Come out, or your father pays the price.”
Zane made a move to open the door, but Alessia grabbed his arm. “No. Let me handle this.”
“Elena,” Christian said urgently, “are we ready?”
“Hold,” Elena replied. “We need him to lead us to Zayden. Don’t move until I say.”
Alessia took a deep breath, pushing the door open. Damian’s head snapped toward her, a sinister smile spreading across his face.
“There you are,” he said, his voice dripping with satisfaction. “My daughter.”
“I’m not your daughter,” Alessia said coldly, taking a step forward. “Where’s Zayden?”
Damian’s laugh echoed through the empty lot. “You’ll see him when I get what I want. Come with me, and he lives. Refuse, and…”
He didn’t finish the sentence, but the implication was clear.
Suddenly, Elena’s voice came through the comms. “I’ve got a signal—Zayden’s location is just a mile away. Tobias, Jonathan, move in. Christian, keep him talking.”
Christian stepped out of the car, his posture strong and intimidating. “You’re not taking her anywhere, Damian. Let Zayden go, and we’ll talk.”
Damian’s smile faded, replaced by a sneer. “You don’t give the orders here, Christian. I do.”
While Christian kept Damian distracted, Tobias and Jonathan raced toward the location Elena had identified. A small abandoned warehouse sat on the outskirts of the district, its windows dark and foreboding.
Inside, Zayden was tied to a chair, his face bruised but his eyes sharp. He looked up as the door creaked open, tension easing when he saw Tobias.
“Took you long enough,” Zayden rasped.
“Let’s get you out of here,” Tobias said, cutting through the ropes. Jonathan stood guard, his weapon drawn.
“No time for reunions,” Elena said over the comms. “Damian’s losing patience.”
Back at the lot, Damian’s frustration was palpable. He reached into his coat, pulling out a gun. Alessia’s heart pounded as she instinctively stepped back.
“Enough games!” Damian roared. “You’re coming with me, now.”
Christian moved in front of Alessia, his hand steady on his concealed weapon. “Don’t do this, Damian. You’ve already lost.”
Suddenly, sirens blared in the distance. Damian’s head snapped up, his eyes narrowing. “You called the cops?”
“No,” Christian said, smirking. “We called reinforcements.”
