Chapter Thirty-Eight - Casting an illusion
Chapter Thirty-Eight - Casting an illusion
I wadded through the waves not caring if the army of men saw me or not, my hair hung over my naked chest as the soaked tendrils reached towards the clear beach, granules of golden sand kicked between my toes as I made my way to shore with my almond eyes raking over the men who glanced over my way. I sighed and released all of the air that I held within my lungs, I closed my eyes and bathed in the sunlight that shone down one me and relaxed as a warm sensation flowed through my veins. It was like the purest of magic was intoxicating me as it dyed my dark strands of hair blonde and my almond eyes a majestic blue, my appearance was intoxicating as I seemed to change within the blink of an eye.
I opened my eyes after a moment and met the curious gaze of a soldier who stood along the banks of the beach, his eyes hadn’t left mine as he witnessed the change and yet he couldn’t seem to believe what had just happened before him. I smiled at him slightly with my full lips caressed into an angelic bow with the sweet fragrance of cherries emanating from my pours, it was a powerful sensation that I believed my mother had once possessed before a knife was plunged deep within her shattered heart.
The men I could sway, I thought distantly.
“Who are you?” The man asked suspiciously.
“No one you need to concern yourself with,” I said as I glanced at him in passing.
“Stop,” he ordered as he approached me.
“Just forget that you ever saw me,” I said with a smile as I waved my hand over his face causing a look of euphoria to posses him as his memories of me became scattered within his mind.
What a nuisance, I thought as I tore my newly blue eyes away from the man as he staggered on his feet.
I released a faint sigh as I summoned a mirage to possess my body causing those who glanced my way to see a wavering figure who they couldn’t seem to focus on. My ability over the magic that possessed my veins grew increasingly stronger by the day, the longer I remained awake the more I was a force to be reckoned with, soon I could be capable of taking on an entire army without risking the lives of those I cherished the most. I pulled my long blonde hair over my shoulders and shivered as a chilled wind swept past me and chilled me to the bone, it felt as if there was another soul nearby who could peer through my mirage and see me for who I truly was and yet I couldn’t seem to seek them out.
This can be a problem, I thought sullenly as I dug my feet within the sand.
I pressed my arms over my breasts in a poor attempt to hide my revealing body as I picked up the pace until I found myself running along the beach and away from the impending army that continued to chant the same word methodically. Their determination was unwavering as the Alpha of insanity overlooked their ranks for any signs of a flaw that they may contain. I watched his movements carefully as his figure steadily grew fainter as I made my way towards the pack house that he ruled over. The large trees surrounded me at the bank of the beach as they protected the ancient pack house that had been handed down over many generations, I glanced over at the large textile roof that revealed itself through a break within the lush trees and sighed from content as I felt a familiar connection with the large dwelling, it was the place where my mother had bore me life, my home.
It feels tainted with that man’s presence, I thought sullenly as I recalled the haggard looking Alpha on the beach.
I was meant to be brought up with love and care within that household with my parents doting over the beautiful child that they had created out of love for one another and yet my father Svarog had ruined that picture perfect moment the day he plunged a dagger within my mothers pure heart. He was a despicable man who was meant to die and rot within the deepest depths of hell where I would be sure to torment him for all eternity, he would never receive a moment of rest for the crimes that he committed.
The murder of a divine being is punishable by death, I thought distantly as I attempted to recall the beautiful face of my mother.
Delicate leaves of gold and green brushed along my bare skin as I made my way along the man made forest, it was a unique sight that was popular among the wolves who inhabited this territory as the oak trees were rare to come by within Thallyn. I closed my eyes as I proceeded forward and allowed my feet to take me to where I wanted to go, the sensation of the lush grass between my toes sent a sense of euphoria through my body as the gentle breeze flowed through the trees and embraced my thin frame.
I should have grown up climbing these trees, I thought sullenly as I finally opened my eyes.
The sun was beginning to set as I approached a door along the rear of the packhouse, it was unattended and seemed to lead towards a narrowing corridor that was largely uninhabited. I couldn’t help but wonder how long the army along the beach would reside there before returning to their homes for the night, surely Elijah wasn’t a tyrant who would abuse his followers and make them suffer throughout the night by making them stand out in the cold until sunrise.
I feel like he’s the type to do that, I thought sullenly as I quickened my pace.
I wanted to see Odin’s face at that moment, to finally give into him as he held me and melt within his arms but if I had the chance now to protect him and safeguard his future then I wouldn’t hesitate to take on that opportunity.
