Salvation
Salvation
Cora
I couldn't just leave this boy all on his own and alone, so after much consideration and evaluating the given chances of his supposed conversation with Athena ending up in an adverse way, I decided to stay. Cause I knew Sebastian would not be able to handle it. He was incapable of even thinking straight.
He was guilt-ridden to the point where hurting himself seemed like the only way he could make up for his mistakes— A sick recompense he thought was the only way to his salvation. I'd been treating him for months, and this period was enough to let me know how worse his condition was getting each day and the only way to give him hope was to tell him that he was recovering, to try to introduce him to new ways of happiness and peace.
But, No. Nothing had helped and would perhaps never. His whole life only circled Athena. Her name alone shattered him into small pieces, every day.
The mistakes he had made in the past were still suppressing him deep in the darkness, no matter how much anyone tried to pull him out of it, it wasn't gonna work. He did not have any hopes for life, he was living without actually living.
The only person who could save him was Athena, but there was hardly any chance of her coming back to him.
He was dying for her if only Athena could see how much he loved her. Who could blame her anyways? Their fates were tied most tragically and none could save it. They had gone through a storm and that poor woman was the one who endured the worst and was left devastated.
I'd indeed sent him to talk to her and face her once again but I was wary about the outcomes that were most likely going to push him into the tide rolling in, but giving him another reason to regret was even more dangerous. He already had enough weight of guilt and regret, weighing on his chest. I couldn't afford the chance of it increasing even more when he was not even in the tracks of recovery.
Sebastian was fucked up right now and he could do anything. He was fucking suicidal, I'd seen him at his worst and I knew he preferred to be dead more than anything else. The only reason he was breathing was to try to lessen the burden of his mistakes by helping make the world a better place for others while, at some point, he gradually made his condition worse.
God knew how the conversation between him and Athena was going to end!
As I paced back and forth in the room, out of the blue a loud sound broke through causing me to flinch and turn around.
The door of the room flew open. I saw Sebastian entering the room, his eyes were red, his chest heavily rose and fell and his hands shaking. His restlessness and guilt swarming in his gaze anxiously moving here and there to spot something, told me exactly how his conversation with Athena went.
Oh boy...
His stare finally landed on the closet, giving me a quick assumption of what he was about to do.
"Buddy, look at me," I did not move any closer to him because that was the best thing to do for both of our safety, especially mine, "It's okay. It's totally okay."
He did not say a word, for a fraction of a second I'd seen him try to say something as his lips parted ever so slightly but then he decided not to and tore his gaze away from me before he reached the closet with long strides and opened the door of it and as expected he pulled out a belt.
"Sebastian, no!" Without thinking of anything else, I ran to him, trying to take the belt away from him.
There was no way I was going to let him do this in front of me. The guy was insane.
"Don't interfere in this, Cora," It was his strict command and he certainly thought that using his Alpha tone would work on me.
"No, I will. I am your doctor."
"Forget that you are my doctor for once, otherwise I'd forget who I am trying to be," He snapped at me with his dark eyes burning with rage.
And boy...I was wishing that I would not faint out of fear right there. I could also pee in my pants, nothing unusual when you have a beast looking at you as if it was one step away from tearing your limbs apart from your body.
Yet, I decided not to show any sign of fear because that'd push his triggers even more.
"You are what you are, don't let your rage hurt you. You are no longer that person you used to be," I cooed, "Calm down. Take deep breaths." I motioned him to slowly breathe in and out.
And god! For a few moments, he began to follow my motions and his rage began fading away allowing me a chance to slowly take the belt away from his hand, but shit always happens right?
He was a scrap away from gaining control over him once again when, perhaps, what I could assume judging by his eyes suddenly flying open with darkness seeping within them through the cracks all over, one of his memories attacked him.
"But she thinks I am, and she'll always see me that way," With that, he yanked the belt away from my hand, and in a matter of a second, he walked into his bedroom and locked it behind him.
I rushed and banged the door, "Open the door, Sebastian. This is not a way to pay for your mistakes!"
God, I wished I could help this guy. He was in so much pain and I knew what he was going through, how hard it was for him to detach himself from his past when he could never wipe Athena off of his mind.
The loud sounds broke through as soon as he entered the room. Not a single winch or pained groan from him made it out, maybe he did not even care to show himself some mercy— It was only the sound of that belt coming in contact with his skin in the harshest way possible. Each of the sounds echoed again and again, being cut off by another sound.
"Listen to me, please open the door. Hurting yourself will not bring anything except pain. It's only you who's gonna suffer."
The sounds never stopped. He kept belting himself, finding it the only way in the world that could bring him peace and somehow make him feel better.
"Sebastian, you are going to get nothing from pain! Not satisfaction, not relief and certainly not your mate!"
It was then that he stopped. An impulsive hush fell into the room for quite a while, nevertheless, the air was filled with tension and uncertainty.
However, then his voice broke through, cold, calm and void of emotions, "Pain is my only Language, Cora."
Once again, the sound of the belt colliding with his skin took over the momentary silence that'd somewhat given me hope.
I finally gave up, walking away from the door, feeling like a failure as I sat on the bed with my face buried in my palms whilst a defeated sigh left my mouth, hopeless knowing that my friend was hurting himself discovering it the only way to make up for his mistakes, and I couldn't help him.
This was the moment when I was ultimately struck with the truth that I could never fix him until I fixed his broken relationship with Athena.
To fix this patient of mine I'd have to step out of my professional ways more than I already had and the only person who could stop him from ruining himself was his mate. She had been his saviour and she still was.
So now, Athena was my only hope.
I had to talk to her.
Sebastian needed her. She was his.....salvation.
