Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Freya
I rolled along my bed and reached for my pillow, giving it a tight hug. A bright smile lightened my face.
Being in love was a beautiful thing; it made me want to twirl and dance in circles across the room, though there was no music playing.
I did. I got off the bed, still holding the pillow tighter than I had, and I danced with it as if it were Jurius and I dancing—my soulmate.
In my head, I pictured us dancing at the football championship afterparty; he was dressed handsomely in a black tuxedo with a white interior, a long black tie, and shiny leather shoes, and I was wearing a beautiful white dress, a dress the princess in a fairy tale would wear.
I stopped and rested my face against the pillow as if I were suffocating myself, and I closed my eyes, imagining Jurius and me in that meadow of daisies again. At the place where I received my first kiss, I visualized him biting my neck and marking me as his own while we made love.
My eyes slowly began to peel open, somehow wishing it was real, and unexpectedly, I was now staring into his eyes. His real eyes, not an imagination of him.
"Jurius," I called, dropping the pillow from my hand.
I ran to him and wrapped my arms around him, hugging him. Soon, I stopped realizing he wasn't hugging me back.
My eyes went back to his, and I saw worries within his beautiful eyes.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern.
"I have to get you to safety now," he said with haste, reaching for one of my hands.
He held it, and I couldn't help but return his touch.
Jurius was pulling me straight to my window.
Before we could get close enough to the window, I pulled my hand from his.
"What is happening?" I asked.
"My father is coming to kill you, and I cannot risk losing you, Freya," Jurius said.
I was petrified at the news, but still, I could not just run off with him.
Jurius made an attempt to reach for my hand again, and I hid it behind me.
"I can't go with you, Jurius; I have my family here. I can't just run off," I told him.
Jurius quickly grabbed me by my waist and pulled me close to him; our eyes locked as he did.
"Don't you understand, Freya? You're not safe here, and I cannot afford for my dad to kill you," he said. "If you should die, I don't know how I'd live without you," he went on.
Within his eyes, I saw nothing but fear of losing me, and I didn't want to let him down.
"Where will we be going?" I asked.
"Far away from here?" he said.
"Let's go. Jurius now stretched out a single hand of his to take
I took it.
"Wait," I told him as I ran for a pen and tore out a single blank sheet from my book.
Thank you for blessing me with your love. I wrote a letter to my grandaunt and grandma. Please don't worry about me I'll be fine. I ended the letter.
Jurius watched me as I placed the letter on the bed, resting the black ballpoint pen on it, and I took his hand.
As we both exited the window, he instructed me to climb onto his back and hold him tightly so I wouldn't fall. My face was buried against his strong shoulder as I did.
I was nervous when he climbed speedily down from the window, but soon not anymore, knowing he would never allow anything to happen to me. I trusted him more than I trusted myself.
As he jumped to his feet from the house, my eyes widened when he started running with me through the forest, like I weighed nothing. The moonlight wasn't bright enough to let me see where he was going; it was too dark, but he ran as if it were daytime. Soon, we were both on the road.
I noticed his blue pickup truck was parked across the side of the road. As he approached the car, he stopped and waited for me to climb down. He opened the door, and I went inside. I watched him worry as he ran to the driver's seat. My body jumped, frightened, as his door locked and he started his car, driving us quickly away.
Though I was worrying like crazy that his father, the alpha, could gain on us, I wish I had packed some clothes I might need. Within a moment, my worries went away when Jurius touched the back of my hand and I looked at him. His eyes were still on the road, driving me speedily to safety.
"I promise you, I'll keep you safe," he said telepathically to me.
I smiled.
We were about to drive past the sign that indicated that we were about to leave the Land of the Forgotten. As we were about to pass it, I screamed.
