Chapter 20 (Part One)
Chapter 20 (Part One)
Jurius
After discovering who my cursed human soulmate was, Dad stopped me from going to school for a while. He didn't want anyone within the pack to be suspicious of why I had done so, and so he made it seem I had more training to help me prepare to one day take on the pack.
I'd been in the packs' gyms for hours for the past few days I've been absent from school, working out. I worked so hard that I felt I had overworked myself. My dad would often tell me to take it easy; it is so hard. Every time I sat down for a rest, all I could think about was her. I was starting to become worried about her. I wanted to put that feeling aside. It was not good for me.
Dad was returning to the gym.
I stopped working out and grabbed a towel to wipe away the sweat from my face.
He was not alone; Uncle Lennox was with him as well.
"How many push-ups have you done?" Uncle Lennox asked. I could sense sadness within him as he tried to lighten the mood, as he always does.
At that moment, I knew Dad had told him about my cursed human soulmate. Dad trusted him.
"500," I retorted.
"You're dropping back," he told me. "I remembered you'd be doing almost 1,000."
I forced a smile.
"I'm sorry for the curse that is upon you," he said, touching my shoulder.
I nodded.
"Don't worry, your dad and I will help you get rid of it."
I didn't nod this time; somehow I felt hurt by how he had described her. It. As if she was nothing.
I found myself stepping away from him, not wanting him near me.
"What is wrong? Dad asked as he and Uncle Lennox observed me.
"Nothing," I lied.
"Let's plot how to get rid of that pest," Uncle Lennox said as he went for chairs.
Both of my hands tightened into a tight fist as I watched him pull three chairs towards us to sit.
I rushed into the gym bathroom.
I spread the palms of my hands and saw they were bleeding.
"Jurius," I heard Father calling.
Immediately, I washed away the blood. My hands were healing by then. I wiped my wet hands and went back outside, sitting down.
"Your dad has already given me all the information about her," informed Uncle Lennox before he could complete what he wanted to say. I stopped him.
"Like what?" I was curious to know.
I felt anger slowly rising inside of me as I waited for a response. What information did Dad give him that made it seem as if he knew everything about her? All I told Dad about Freya was that she went to the same school as me and that she was the girl I rescued in the forest. Her name instantly took away the anger within me. It relaxed me.
"Son, I've been watching her secretly while you've been absent from school," Dad told me.
"Why am I just hearing this?" I was upset.
"It's nothing to be angry about, son; what we need to focus on is getting rid of that pest."
Instantly, I got up from my chair.
"Her name is Freya!" I yelled, infuriated. "And I have the right to know you're watching what's mine," I growled.
Uncle Lennox and Dad looked at me surprisingly.
I was soon surprised by my actions.
I sat back down.
He and Lennox kept observing me.
"Let's continue." I hated that they were leering at me.
"Let us come up with a way of killing her that no one will be suspicious about before he becomes too attached," Uncle Lennox said, discovering I already was.
My head was held away from them, drowning in guilt.
In my mind, I was still curious to know how dad was watching her—was it just from school or from the back of her home into the window of her room that is always opened? Did he ever enter her room while she was fast asleep? My teeth tightened in anger.
"So far, all the information your father has gathered about her is that she is the relative of the two elderly females." She is new in town, and her home is far away from everyone's."
"You went to her home?" I asked Dad.
"Yes."
"Without me knowing?"
"Why does it bother you?" Dad became frustrated by my questions.
